ODM calls for preparedness as Hurricane Jose nears Leeward Islands

Projected path of Jose

The Office of Disaster Management (ODM) is calling on residents to maintain their high level of preparedness in light of Hurricane Jose which is nearing the Leeward Islands.

Jose, a Category 1 Hurricane which is expected to strengthen to a Major Hurricane by the weekend, is about 715 miles to the east of the Lesser Antilles as of 11:00 am.

Watches have already been issued for portions of the Leewards.

A calculation puts Jose at its closest point to Dominica this Saturday morning at about 120 miles to the north of the island.

Residents are therefore advised to finalize all preparatory activities for the Hurricane should it pose any danger to Dominica.

The general public must continue to monitor the progress of Hurricane Jose and listen to advisories put out by the Dominica Meteorological Service.

Given that seas are still agitated from Hurricane Irma, Fishermen are advised not to venture out until after Hurricane Jose. Fishermen should also keep their gears out of the water. Small craft operators must remain in port.

Village Councils and Disaster Committees in all communities should activate their Disaster Plans.

Shelter Managers and Volunteers should be in a state of readiness to provide shelter, if needs be.

All Sub-Committees of NEPO should activate plans for a response to Jose.

Persons living in low-lying areas or close to rivers or other waterways should be on alert during heavy rainfall activity and move to safer areas if needs be. Persons in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks should be vigilant and exercise extreme caution if they must move around. Also, persons living on the coastline should be mindful of storm surges as above normal sea activity is expected as Hurricane Jose continues to move across the area.

    continuation:
Jesus gave us the signs to look for in the new testament in the advent of his return. It is his will that none of us should perish because Hell was not created for us…. You see there is a salvation plan for us all but none for Satan and his demons. Satan’s plan is to attempt to hurt God’s heart using humanity… whom God loves dearly and has planned for.
The step must be taken by us so that Jesus can reach out and help us. All we have to do is open out to him and let him have his way. he will protect, bless, love, and do everything else.
He has already paid the price for our sins and wants us to enjoy the benefits.
    Praise Jesus.

I am sorry for the loss of lives and property occurring right now. It seems like events are taking place all over the world which are way beyond our control… frequent eclipses, tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, the advent of famine, earthquakes…. in places that we never imagine. You may not agree with me, but I believe that these are natural contractions that mother nature is feeling before the birth of a new beginning. These pains may seem long… and really they are because God’s grace and mercy is reaching out to us so that we may open our hearts to him.
Two years ago, TS Erica struck. Recently, st. Vincent suffered a blow. Now we see Irene going through almost every island preceding the Texas flooding. Look around my people. The reason we are here today alive, is because we have had another day of mercy and grace to make amends.
Any of us could have passed, neither do we know when we are going to die.

Earlier this year, actually, not too long ago some areas in the Province of Quebec, Canada had floods. Some people lost their homes.
A few years ago Quebec had an ice storm, worst than Ontario a few years later.
British Columbia, Canada had wild fires which destroyed some homes. It was terrible. Many people had to be evacuated. Those whose homes were not destroyed were fortunate.
Last year Alberta, Canada also had wild, forest fires which also destroyed some homes. In these cases the people had to be evacuated.
As for California, it always has wild fires with many homes destroyed and recently.
The Eastern Province of Canada, the Atlantic Region, also get their share with storms, rain and winter ones. These people suffer a lot from them.
We have reasons to be realistic and empathize with these people and pray for them.
We never know what will occur next and where. One thing, God wants us to pray, not only for ourselves but for others in the entire world.
