Tropical Storm Watch discontinued for Dominica

A landslide in the Aux Delices area due to the effect of Tropical Storm Harvey

As of 2:00 p.m. today, the Tropical Storm WATCH for ‘Harvey’ is discontinued.

Harvey continued to move into the Eastern Caribbean Sea away from Dominica and the Windward Islands.

‘Harvey’ could still produce rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches with higher amounts in elevated areas. Thus, the public is advised to remain on alert as local hazards are still possible.

Earlier today, the Office Disaster Management received information on a slide in the Aux Delice area.

A one-lane has since been cleared and works continue to have that road fully cleared.

Meanwhile, persons utilizing that road should exercise extreme caution.

Additionally, despite the discontinuation of the ‘WATCH’ , persons should:
• Keep informed on the current weather situation and to exercise caution during tonight
• Be reminded that the grounds are saturated due to rainfall over the past few days
• Do not attempt to cross flooded roads or rising waters
• Be cautious when crossing bridges or using vulnerable roads

Persons living near river banks, ravines and water-ways should be vigilant and ready to take action at short-notice.
Persons living in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks should continue to exercise caution.

Residents should continue to listen to reports issued by local authorities.
