The Office of Disaster Management (ODM) wishes to advise Residents and Mariners to continue monitoring an approaching weather system.
Shower and thunderstorm activity are associated with a tropical disturbance which is located about 950 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands.
The system is continuing to show signs of organization and environmental conditions remain conducive for further development.
A Tropical Depression is likely to form during the next day or two while it approaches the islands of the Lesser Antilles.
Heavy rains and strong gusty winds should spread over the Windward Islands and portions of the southern Lesser Antilles beginning late Tuesday or Wednesday. Rough sea conditions with waves near 12 feet are also expected.
Residents of Dominica are advised to continue to monitor the weather into tomorrow and onto Thursday.
• Take all necessary precautions to protect life and property from possible flooding and strong winds. During flood events do not attempt to cross flooded roads or waterways. Be mindful of flying debris.
• All must pay attention particularly to unsafe areas. If you live close to, on or below slopes, waterways like rivers and ravines or in areas where you can be affected by falling boulders and stones, you should be ready for quick action and plan to move. Know where the shelter for your community is located and the safest route to get to the shelter.
• Fisher folks should particularly take note and seek to secure all boats and fishing gear by tomorrow, Tuesday.
Residents and mariners are advised to continue to listen to local radio stations for weather information from the Meteorological Service and advisories from the Office of Disaster Management.
