Wesley man convicted for discharging firearm in public

A Wesley  man, who pleaded guilty to discharging two firearms in public in his community, now have to pay almost $10,000 to the court today (February 3) or he could go to jail for two years.

Roger Samuel was fined $4,000 to be paid forthwith for the possession of  a firearm or he will spend nine months in prison. He was also fined $4,000 forthwith for the possession of ammunition. In default, he will spend another nine months in jail.

Samuel was ordered to pay two fines of $750 for discharging a 1.357 magnum revolver and 6.38 special ammunition in Wesley respectively. If he does not pay these sums today, he will face an additional six months in prison.

In mitigation, Samuel told the court that he was a fisherman who had found the firearms on a buoy while at sea and had kept them for two months.

Magistrate Candia George told the defendant that he should have turned over the weapons to the police as there had been gun amnesties in effect for some time now.

I hope that you ]eeps know that even though one is in possesion of a valid license it is not permitted to discharge a firearm indiscrimately. If you do fire after someone you are supposed to report it to the authorities!! All this arbitrary talk is so nonsensical laws have to be obeyed or face the consequencies. Simple minds are going to waste.

That Lestrade man shot a man in his head outside Krazy Kokonuts last year ; NOTHING!!!
But to shoot in the air ; SERIOUS FINES???

Lestrade’s matter is indictable and must go through a Preliminary Stage at the low court then to the high court for trial. This matter was dealt with at the Magistrate Court. The Lestrade matter is a longer process like what exist for a case of Burglary,Rape or Grevious Bodily Harm. We should not be making uninformed comments. Here you are comparing matters without understanding the difference between the two situations. Peace.

Man, what wrong with these courts in DA?

The guy was charged more for the possession than for the discharging. I would a charge mister $10,000 for each discharge and/or 5 years each respectively without any prejudice.

He could a kill some innocent child or something…damn idiot!!

thats all for firearm charges? dominica too lenient man? i mean come on! firearm charged once you find possession should be a minimum of five years. discharge should be a minimum of ten! you got to send a clear message out there to these people that this will not be tolerated.

the guy probably paid more for the gun than you charging him. and secondly, if he using firearms its likely that he is involved in the drug trade which mean he can pay fines with no problem. further more, six months for firearm charges?

reform on gun charges please! new legislation
