UPDATE: Will Strathmore Primary student wins 2019 Carnival Princess title

2019 Carnival Princess Sherkhia Andrew

Sherkhia Andrew from the Willstrathmore Stevens Primary School has won the 2019 Carnival Princess Title.

The 11-year-old won the awards for best talent, best in costume as well as the People’s Choice Award.

“I feel very overwhelmed and I am very happy,” she told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview shortly after she was crowned.

Andrew said her friends, family, chaperone, teachers among others helped her to prepare for the pageant.

Her advice to young girls who are interested in participating in pageants: “You can be anything that you want to be with determination.”

Andrew revealed that one of her dreams is to become an athlete.

Ist runner position went to Lizanne Cuffy of the Convent Preparatory School. She received the awards for Best in Party Dress and Miss Intelligence

G’nellie Williams of the St John’s Catholic Primary School took the 2nd runner up position. She received the awards for Best costume and Miss Congeniality

In fourth place (3rd runner up) was Shervez Seaman of the Paixbouche Primary School.

Seaman got the Miss Congeniality Award.

The other contestants were Rayne Annalizz Auguiste of the St Martin Primary, Semia Farrell of Grand Fond Primary, Ta’Kiyah Tai Bazil of Wesley Primary School and Faydra Nicholas of Soufriere Primary School.

    Coming from this show should be discussion on the way forward to focus more on our sports in Dominica. A call for investment into shaping young gymnasts. Lets seriously work on embracing and developing the sport; you would be surprised to know the number of our young girls who also share Sherkhia’s dream. Congratulations to Sherkhia and WSSS!

    Congratulations Girls. You all did exceptionally well. I was in did flabbergasted. I saw young intelligent ladies with talent and confidence. Keep the spirit. Congratulations to Ms. Andrew.
