WE THE PEOPLE are fully upset with the non inclusion of our top groups in the WCMF 2K13 where is our beloved WCK, MICHELLE, OPHELIA, MIGHTY SOLO, SWINGING STARS, NASIO, GROOVERS…..WHY Ms MEADE…YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY IS it that you continue to squeeze in TNT acts and we not having our STARS;;;;;;This could never happen in TNT……WE NOT FOOLS;;;;;;;AS was said WCK is our pride and joy…..push in another TRINI GROUP next year….we looking on…..

Really we love our local groups but we must remember the people who come’s the most to the WCMF are from Guadeloupe and Martinique and they are not coming to the WCMF for any of our local groups and 80 % of them are coming for Jamaican, American, Haitian,African and also for some French groups and 10 to 15 % for Soca and Bouyon so if we want a good turn out you have to give the people what they wand and if we depend on our own people to come to the shows, this shall be the end of Salamond Zayid

Crap! WCK not on this line up is an injustice. I’m Dominican, I don’t live in Dominica but anytime CK comes to Anguilla or SXM is a mash up. Thats our culture…This is what we must promote, other acts included are good but our bands should be a shoe in and a must! especially CK, Midnight Grovers and Nasio… These 3 are international acts not just local. Stand up for your own and stop trying to act smart…. dummy!

every year is the same struggle for midnight groovers to get on the line-up of the WCMF.Collin Piper is the one that don’t like Groovers. They want Grovers to perform magic on stage for very little money while they pay the forieng band all the big money and stil don’t worry how they perform. they are going to have dice performing with 2 different band as lead vocals while chubby and groovers cannot find a spot. where in these world you can have Dice as your leading cadence band for the festival? because the man try to do something with Fitsroy William all thing he is big in Cadance music, must be crazy.Any way do all you do, but one day it will hunt all you down. Chubby and Groovers as done a lot for music and culture in these Country and that is what they getting for there effort today. God is good all the time and all the time God is good.

    • Tri-State Beauty
      July 30, 2013

You don’t have to bite into Dice to make an appeal for Groovers and demand respect for Chubby. Piper has serious issues, but don’t disrespect Dice or any other artist. Eventually when the elders who we treasure hang it up, the music has to go one, the culture has to survive.

      • Tyre hit de road
        July 30, 2013

Tri-State Beauty that’s a very very sensible statement
Dice is All Dominican we want to see Dice perform even if he does his performance with more than one band. Even if you are not a fan of Dice he still has a family to support (yes lots of money are paid to foreign bands/performances. Some of them have not even heard of CADENCE-LYPSO) This just highlight the Potential of Dominican Musicians/Performers So Dice needs to Perform and so does Midnight Grooves . And yes Dominicans really have a say. I believe Groovers,WCK and Trippe K have earned their place in the Festival; That’s a “NO BRAINIER”

  19. WHERE EXILE/ WCK
    July 30, 2013

WHEN was the last time that any Dominican Band was invited to perform in TRINIDAD ? The last time Machel Montano performed in DA it was quite poor and his group was ill-dressed etc. I guess GLO_SHOW ……

However we continue to recycle the same groups such what has happened to TABOU COMBO, swinging stars, WCK, and the legendary EXILE ONE.

We continue to allow foreigners to block our eyes and pay no serious regards to our icons. We no longer have Grammacks and no respect for ING CHUBBY.

Can we continue to brush OPHELIA aside and bring on a TRIPLE K band which has lyrics which brings down young women and is of a highly immoral nature. How do we fight AIDS with such lewd lrics ? But such a band is given a platform to spread its unfortunate venominous message unto the minds of our youths.
What about the SIXTH FORM SISSEROU SINGERS and also a GOSPEL THURSDAY NIGHT, IF NOT HAVING A foster XAVIER on show and other Gospel groups from Da and the region.

    July 30, 2013

I like the Line Up – a good blend. I love Kassav for ever but I am a bit tired of hearing Kassav do the same songs over and over at every show. With the number of great albums Kassav should come with a new repertoire to exclude zouke La se sel medikama. So many great songs by kassav . They should look to perform some of Patrick St Eloi songs – like apre zouke la la aller.

Carimi, Nu Look, Magnum Band ( magnum Bend bend bend la sel defewance)a great mélange. I just wish we had a something magnum band, shah shah or Kope clowe.. Nu Look is a wonderful band – not sure how they are doing without lead singer Pipo and lead guitar player Ti Papi who was is a very good guitar player.
I am not a fan of the Marshel Montano music but I like the work that he put into his shows. The last time I saw Montano at the WCMF I was annoyed by what was to me just loud noise with good stage choreography but then I could see that the younger folks were having a great time.

I would love to see Steel Pulse or a Juan Luis Gera from the Dominican republic but that is just me.

I am a huge fan of jazz just not sure how Tito Puente Jr is going to blend in . Unless heplays a number of up tempo salsa grooves.

All that said – I like the line up thus far.

    • Super 8 Committe
      July 31, 2013

This is one of of the most sensible comments I’ve read here. Seriously guys, the show is expected to have an an international which places the onus on the festival committee to do all in their power to ensure this. I have no doubt that this line up will be achieve this.

It is my view that Dominicans simply cannot expect their local acts take main stage year after year after year…seriously? While there is no denying that WCK is a great band and should have been included, does Chubby have that international appeal to replace a band like Kassav? Btw do Dominicans actually come out to support them? I Think not! I distinctly remember that Midnight Groovers poorly representing themselves in 2012 and by the time they took the stage the Windies cricket team could have played an ODI with very little obstruction.

In our call for justice, equity and freedom we must continue to strive for excellence. It is only when we continue to reinvent ourselves as Marchel Mantano HD has done then and only then can we cry foul. Until such time, we ought to applaud the organizing committee on a good start.

  25. Great
    July 30, 2013

The line up is fine, but is missing a WAW factor and as always we as Dominicans are proud of the creole fest, but the committee over the years has been seemed to neglect the true meaning behind the creole festival. There are so many French bands and it seems like we almost have the same bands every year, Haiti alone has many bands that perform internationally that I haven’t seen on the line up, like Zin, 10-4 etc. Also, in Africa, Solo Sita etc. I think the festivals committee need someone who actually is a music lover, and when I say music lover, I mean someone who appreciates the entire art form in its entirty, from rap down to cadence, compas, etc, to really spice up this festival and attract the crowd that it once could. I attend the festival every year and I hope that the bands can come on one after the other, the breaks between the bands are sometimes too long and makes ppl bored out of their minds. And for the people who say that WCK and KKK should not be on there, I object, do you guys see the other islands leaving out their own people? NO, because it is an opportunity to gain exposure and make a name for themselves. come on people lets support our own

Example; Grammy Nominated, ‘Wailers’,with a Dominican Desmond ‘Bumbs’Hyson writing and playing a major part in this group need a brake on this stage, there are others like Martindale, playing cadance and i can go on,But i will rest my case.Thank you.

    July 30, 2013

Excuse me but am i missing something. First i would like to say that the festival committee thus far has put forward a rather interest lineup but for some reason i’m feeling like the Jay is half empty.

The festival was created to bring the world to Dominica while showcasing of very own local talent so that they to will be give the chance to showcase their talent on a global stage among the worlds best entertainers. Having said this, i’m sadden that its only Triple Kay from Dominica thats currently on the lineup…The Champion of Cadence Midnight Groovers and the pioneer of Bouyon WCK Band are not given the chance to grace the biggest stage on their island.

Its a disgrace to have so many international artist gracing our stage and not allowing our very own to be part of this show!!! The festival is missing the point…If the likes of CK and Groovers cannot make it to their own festival how then do we expect anything from them. My wish is ck don’t grace the road for independence street jam this coming season…….

kassav is always number one.but the zouk love artists is a big question???????they don’t move the crowd!!

    • lol
      July 30, 2013

The problem seems to be that we don’t listen to zouk as we did before so we do not know a lot of the new songs and artists, the dj’s play what they like and this would explain why the zouk love artists brought in are very slow tempo, often with hits of 15 years ago so we can identify them. Meanwhile the ‘main promoter’ stands on the stage on introduce them with a big grin and hug to the ‘don’t know’ Dcan public in the park. lol.
Secondly many people do not understand what the songs are saying even if we speak creole, again we don’t know the zouk!
Sad that lots of new budding artists from gwada and martinique are left out and we lose out on the portuguese power house of new franco-portuguese rhythms and voices.
Njie, Talina, Fanny, Milca, Kaysha, Elizio, Nelson Freitas, Nichols, Warren…. : W**** wah gwan????!!!

Natalie Clarke… Trinidad has a potentially large market, a major promotional campaign must be done there in collaboration with Machel Montano. The campaign must take the format of a fete at a popular night spot. Block parties in san fernando, arima, and, port of spain.

Also negotiate with Caribbean Airlines to place at least 2 dash8s or 2 ATRs on a direct Trinidad to Dominica schedule during the season.

There is need to undertake an early WCFM campaign in trinidad with travel agents, target the many hiking clubs and other social clubs. Organize packages with local hotels and tour operators…

This is a great opportunity… take advantage of it…

the issue with the WCMF they are yet to be a World Class Event, too many recycles acts or acts which are not World renowned thus making the fest a
    low key event…

when you look at other fest in the region they do go a one or two World Acts to create that buzz..

the wcmf is pretty much a inside the box affair
Lacks class in my view..low keyed budgeted event

To play in any stadium Barclay Center in Brooklyn or any other you just have to book it, pay the rent and sell tickets. It has nothing to do with world class or not. There are enough Haitians and other French Caribbean people to fill any stadium in New York. 90% of New Yorkers have no idea of this band. World class means world recognition and renown. I love Kassav but Kassav is essentially a French band playing mainly French music for French and French oriented people. Marley was world class because he crossed over from just a Jamaican artist to be a world renowned artist whose iconic photo is still sold on T-shirts today, so is Rihanna who has a big fan base all over the world. There are some places in the Caribbean that have not even heard of the name Kassav. What is being suggested is that if we want to make World CMF a world headliner we must think out of the box and seek beyond just making our own crowd happy and bring in world class artists one at a time. Otherwise what is the point of calling it WORLDCMF All we have is alternate repeats of the same bands for the pleasure of our own youth year after year like a little small island jam. In any case Kassav is just an assembly of musicians who come together for shows using the Kassav name.

Maindesk I am not the biggest kassav or zouk fan but I think you wrong when you try to explain world class. Don’t bite my head, but kassav has played in California more than once, so to make it sound like it’s Haitians & French people alone that listen to them and they are concentrated in New York is a lie. Also when was Bob Marley a cross-over artist? Do you know what crossover artist means? Marc Anthony, Selena Wyclef are cross over artist. Bob Marley continues to be an international icon because of the philosophy behind his music which is still on point today. Stop saying what you want thinking you sounding intelligent.

You make a valid point. I think the organizers are bringing people they love to hear nothing new to make me come out and support. Kassav takes a huge chunk of the money with a laundry lists of demands. I like them but I’ve had enough. The festival makes money, gets huge sums yet we can’t see profits or any injection of funds in the island from all the money they make.

@ Maindesk you are partially right but music is universal and contary to what you claim kassav has a massive following on US non-french/non-creole speaking people mainly white. Maybe it’s the beat but I saw them at MSG and your analysis is flawed. Unlike us in the caribbean who tend to listen to only music in our language the universe responds differently. By the way which caribbean island have not heard of Kassav? Even St Thomas and Curacao have seen Kassav. Marketing my dear is key. I also just asked a random group of people in my NY office if they’ve heard of kassa. 7 out of 10 have. We must becareful when we make such broad fact filled statements without empirical data. By the way Bob Marley NEVER crossed over. He sang reggae in his Jcan accent and allowed his music and message to speak for it itself. To his grave Bob remained an original in music lyric and message. Be careful when making statements you can’t support!
