NYC assists in redecorating Coulibistrie primary school library

IMG-20131221-WA003The Coulibistrie Primary School is encouraging more young people to volunteer in matters of education.

Aurelia Benjamin, a teacher at the school, is expressing gratitude following the efforts by the National Youth Council of Dominica in improving the library’s ambiance.

The NYCD spent time over the students’ 2013 Christmas break to redecorate the school.

Mrs. Benjamin said, “Since the rearranging of the library, the children are amazed and go there on their own without being coaxed. They are self motivated in going for a book to read, during class some students ask to go to the library to pick up a book.”

The NYCD along with some parents and teachers ensured that the breeding ground of good literacy was more spacious than before. There are mats on the floor for those who would like to sit there and read.

The four to five hundred books have been re-shelved to provide easier access for the school population of thirty five.

Benjamin is looking forward to a planned return visit from members of the NYCD.
