Dominica ready to host biggest international cricket matches this weekend

Roseau, Dominica– May 27, 2010(GIS) –After months of intense preparation and modifications and enhancements to the facility, the Nature Island of Dominica is ready to host two one-day internationals at the 12,000 capacity Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica’s capital City of Roseau.

For thousands of Dominican cricket fans it will be a moment of intense national pride and joy that their country is hosting two one–day international cricket matches involving the West Indies and the highly ranked South Africans.

The South Africa and West Indies teams arrived in Dominica at the redeveloped Melville Hall airport yesterday.
Superintendent of Police, Mr. Nicholas George gave a final press briefing on Tuesday on parking, security and logistics ahead of what is destined to be the biggest international cricket matches staged in Dominica thus far.

Ticket sales have for today’s the first ODI was brisk and organizers see the same enthusiasm from patrons for the second ODI set for Sunday, May 30th 2010.

The excitement will continue after the games when local bands and groups will provide entertainment.
In the last several months the Windsor Park Stadium has been significantly enhanced with the construction of four practice pitches, the installation of air conditioning units in the VIP boxes and the Commentary Room of the Media Centre.

Cable Television can also be accessed in all the VIP booths and the Commentary Room.
All VIP booths are internet ready.

Modifications have also been made to the players’ pavilion and the grounds. A back-up water supply system has also been installed.

The vendors’ area has also been enhanced. A five reel outfield mower is now being used in preparation for the game.

A curator from St. Lucia has arrived in Dominica to complement the local ground staff currently working here.
Later today at an official ceremony there will be the naming of the Stands in honour of Dominicans who have made a contribution to West Indies Cricket at all levels.

Stands will be named after Irving and Grayson Shillingford, Norbert Philip, Adam Sanford, Clem John, Kelleb Laurent and Billy Doctrove.

The Windsor Park Stadium was the venue for Dominica’s first ever one day internationals- West Indies against Bangladesh in July, 2009.

The Windsor Park Stadium, funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China at a cost in excess of EC$35 million, was officially opened in 2007.

    wat test we gonna pass wen all WEST INDIES is doing is shame we. gosh after fridays match im no longer a supporter. WEST INDIES over and over is not doing anything 2 win their matches .change them guys and bring in better bowlers . man west indies i was looking forward to cing u guys and spend a whole day in front of my big screen and u guys let me down again. anyway i hope u all do better dis sunday (watever) maybe u all got 2 excited with WCK and look WCK left u guys and played in TORTOLA for the music fest now what. maybe ,again you all need to join WCK and formed CK band and call it WEST INDIES WCK BAND INSTEAD . AND SINCE U GUYS A SO TALENTED IN THE MUSIC AND SHAKE/SHAKE/SHAKE SHAKE UR BUDDY THAN BAT AND BALL/ FIELD AND PITCH.

    Yes this is great news.Let’s hope The winsor park staduim enter fee is affordable to full up the place.So the world can see we pass the test for this Big INT cricket matches.
