An ongoing feud between chairperson of the Public Works Corporation (PWC) Gloria Tavernier and staff members has resulted in her dismissal by Public Works Minister Rayburn Blackmoore.
Tavernier had taken a decision on behalf of the board to terminate the services of 16 staff members of the PWC, resulting in protest action and consequently a reinstatement of the staff following discussions with the Public Service Union (PSU).
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source very familiar with the situation explained that, “she has not been a popular person with staff and they have lodged several complaints to the minister asking for her dismissal”.
Minister Blackmoore has confirmed that his ministry is now in search of a new person to head the board of the Public Works Corporation.
Blackmoore explained that he was not happy with how things were operating and it was incumbent on him to take certain decisions.
“Certain decisions had to be taken and on July 2 we took the decision to relieve the person who held that position. I‘m not the person who will say anything adverse about anybody, but as a government we have to ensure that certain things are done. The board is supposed to give the minister proper advice as to directions that the Government wants the corporation to go and when that is not being done then certain actions have to be taken,” he said.
Tavernier remained very evasive to questions about her termination but claimed that her dismissal came as she refused to resign.
“I was asked to resign and that is what it is all about. I have not resigned; I am no longer the chairperson of the board. Go and call the minister and ask him questions, not me,” she stated.
To date, there are no indications as to who will be taking up the mantle of the cash-strapped corporation.

I am still wondering what did the Chairman of PWC do. I spoke to several workers and they are not sure and cannot explain. One said that the workers want the PWC to return the way it was before 2007 when the Garage was under the Ministry. So they are confirming that they want it to return to PUBLIC WASTE GARAGE. My conclusion is that the Chairman is a no nonsense person and the Board went ahead and implemented various policies and changes preventing some workers from having their way. This is not new to such an establishment.

I checked and no one quoted that amount they said nothing less than $5000.00 since they have to rent a crane to off load.

Boy all you people not easy what did the Chairman do for all those comments. Did anyone inquire about the truth and the facts surrounding this matter? I hope the Chairman talking to her lawyers because my understanding is that the Chairman was not involved in many of the accusations and that they were managerial decisions.

Gloria should talk the truth (1) a 40 foot container from Roseau to Portsmouth is $800. tell the people why she bypass the supervisors and engineers responsible for the asphalt plant project in colihaut and she and the general manager signed a bill for $3000. pr. trip for a 40 foot container from Roseau to Colihaut which is half way to possie.(2) tell us why Prince Coffie was fired for doing buisness with the cooporation by her and the G M and all buisness transaction noy mutys pass through her buisness place NTI (3) why did she and the G M aggreed to pay the inshurance to repair the G M mothers bus after it was in fault with an accident with a P W C pickup just to mention a few and there is much more dont let me blow out fire the Manager to see e pa nie soutewea e pa nie vollea. two thives they should be charged fof boobol and jailed.

RIP Mamo Gloria is the one who professes ever so often that she has balls. the thing about it is that she doesnot wear pants as most men with balls wear pants. While you guys are looking at creativity; I want to support the previous caller on Benoit Badouille, situation to be reviewed by the Minister. I believe he has held that position for too long now; therefore, he should be remove from the position that he now holds, and allow him to perform in some other capacity if he wishes. Allow someone new to come into that position to bring a different and more diverse prospective to the position.
I think this is long over due, we keep persons too long in one place, and this process retard the country’s progress. Also, look at other persons who have held key position for over five (5) years, with a view for rotating them as well.

Just some food for thought. What if….; this Government is under investigation from the big guns the FBI ….for corruption and money laundering””. Maybe we should keep our eyes and ears open over the next few months /years because the FBI is known to carry out their investigations systematically
and if the Government of Dominica is under investigation then they have serious cause for concern.

If it is a process of eliminating the incompetencies in Dominica, then I say great. It should be done at all other Ministries, sub-ministeries and in other sectors such as Education, Sports and Culture.
While we are at it, we should get rid of persons, who while they are out representing Dominica, speak ill about the Dominican Government in a manner that is highly offensive. Seven months after a landslide “VICTORY” by Labour, one would have thought that Skerrit and his bunch of incompetence would be on the roll, running this country with a smile because the power is in their hand, they can change the constitution, they can pass any law, but no, the whole bunch of of LABAR is angry. How can they have so much power and be so angry?
The defeat of Skerrit in the bye-elections is the beginning of the end. Sadly, Skerrit has reached the peak of his ascension and now his defeats are piling, there is no doubt that the pending court decision will go against Skerrit.

I’m not acqainted with Ms Tavernier but seriously Dominicans are the only ones who if DA hard and they not working the boss shouldn’t fire them. If she have the authority to do so ( thats questionable) and the 16 persons aren’t efficient she should fire them. Thats why DA doesn’t prosper because we too like to keep people who are ineefficient in their jobs around because they our friends and things hard! Not Labor power all you was screaming sometime ago? what goes around comes around. Has anybody stopped to wonder what were the contentious issues between a former boss and the board? This man as far as I am aware aided by a competent team and made a difference at and for the cooperation, there was a certain level of prudence and deligence in handling the cooperation’s affairs., ever since this board was instituted it went on a colision path with a number of well meaning employees which resulted in some “stepping out” and others being “sidelined”. See who’s walking now….. there’s always going to be a day of reckening if we fail to correct our ways and remember vengence belongs to God! The bible says, “HE WILL REPAY”. I humbly suggest that every trace of MS. TARVENIER be removed from the cooperation and it means therefore rehiring the “good people” to continue the trajectory that the cooperation was on and for the appropriate apologies to be made. This is how people move on……
