ANNOUNCEMENT: DOMLEC employment opportunity Chief Operations Officer

DOMLEC requires for employment an individual to fill the position of Chief Operations Officer.

Job summary


The Chief Operations Officer will be held accountable for DOMLEC’s key technical operations including Generation, Transmission and Distribution and Power Purchase Contract coordination. This position recognizes both DOMLEC’s current mandate and future direction. In demonstrating DOMLEC’s future direction, the position will also lead DOMLEC’s thrust into geo-thermal energy optimization and climate resilient strategic initiatives. The position is strategic in nature and will serve as the leader of DOMLEC’s focus on optimizing performance, increasing innovation and reliability in technical operations.

Qualifications and Education


  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Power Systems or a related field
  • A Master’s degree in the above fields would be an asset
  • A Diploma or Tertiary Certificate in Management with a demonstrated understanding of Strategic Management and Financial Management
  • An MBA would be an asset

Required Experience


  • Minimum of ten (10) years in a related industry at a senior management level
  • Minimum of twenty (20) years’ experience in a Power Generation Plant, or Engineering, Transmission and Distribution organization with a comparable scope and complexity
  • A proven track record of successfully leading the achievement of Financial Management KPIs in challenging environment

Specialized knowledge in the following areas would be an asset:

  • Project Management
  • Geothermal Generation


  • Other forms of renewable energy
  • Maintenance Programme Planning

Special Abilities/Aptitude/Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent inter-personal skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Reasonable proficiency in a range of business applications software including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Visionary and Strategic Leadership
  • Relationship Building and Influencing
  • Maximizing Performance Results

    This job is kind of ageist. Basically the person has to be 50+ to get this job. 20 years experience is ridiculous.

      While my experience is not in this field, I found it necessary to respond because I’m not sure you understand the professional experience required to be a COO or any executive manager to make that statement.
      I am 38 and I have 15 years professional experience in my field, be it a varying levels, including about 8 years at supervisory level or above. Plus I also have about 4-5 years of non-professional experience in jobs that are not relevant to my career path. I had my first job at 17, and worked through my university degrees.
      This is a career path opportunity not a fly by night job that you start today and leave tomorrow. The ideal candidate for the is position is expected to be in their late 30s to mid 40s, and yes up to their 50s. But that is the reality of the work of a senior executive manager in these technical fields. An engineer doesnt decide to be an engineer when he/she is 30. Years of study are required for certain fields and thats just the way life is.
