ANNOUNCEMENT: Transportation of mail to and from Dominica

The General Post Office in Roseau

LIAT has been the primary carrier of mail to and from Dominica.  With LIAT going under Administrative Management coupled with COVID-19, mail services into and out of Dominica has been curtailed for two years.

We regret that very much, considering the reliance by small business enterprises for the export of their products, and the use of the post by the average Dominican public in obtaining pension payments, medication and other necessities from abroad. Transportation of mail into and out of Dominica is experiencing a major blow since the Postal Services does not have its own form of transportation.

We are in dialogue with at least two carriers, who traverse Dominica and the rest of the regional route and who could provide us with transportation. The Postal service is working closely with them in the hope of arriving at a solution to the resumption of mail services with Dominica and the rest of the world.

At present only mail from the United States of America is received on a somewhat consistent basis. We receive mail from the USA by sea via St. Martin. However, the outbound cannot be reciprocated because our volumes are too small to fill a container.

We are working and hope that the situation can be rectified soon.

I really don’t know why this post office is still open. The employees are useless and need to be fired. It’s been over a year I’ve been waiting on a package from the US – NOTHING! Then most recently, 8 months. NOTHING. Still waiting. Called the post office dozens of times. When someone finally answers the phone (after weeks of calling and no answer), ask them simple questions about what might have happened with the package, the answer is always “I don’t know.’ Where do packages go when they leave the US to Dominica? “I don’t know.” It’s just embarrassing that this is happening. Since I was born I’ve been hearing of the post office and people’s packages going to Dominican Republic. I’m the age of a grandparent now and the same story. It’s time to fire these people and get workers who are ready to do hard work and are capable of making change.

I found out that mail from the US goes through St. Martin. I called them. Someone answered right away, had many answers to my…

They can’t be fired, they are all seasoned Labour supporters. Hence they can also get away with their non existing customer service. Every institution in DA is now affected by these cockroaches.

Why do we bother to have a post office if the postal service is non-existent. We may as well close down the place and save money.

Yours truly should use some of the millions from the passports he sold to buy a few helicopters to fly the mail to the US Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico every day. He can build a helipad next to the main post office to cut down on time. He has the money in his account. He can also use the helicopter mail service to deliver election flyers to his supporters overseas.

When I used to go to the post office back in 2020 the women would tell me in my face “due to Covid 19 everywhere else in the world stop taking packages 📦therefore they cannot ship items out of Dominica .” she use that excuse everything other week I would call or show up in person .
I go today now a new person telling me they looking for a boat but he more confused than ever . (He as in new person I’ve never seen before )

! What the hell was wrong with the old system ? Why can’t packages go out like how they used to ? This is not right !

Other location like depexs are sending packages out of Dominica what is wrong with the Dominica post office!

The Dominica post office was the only place I could send items to my sister in China And America without paying an arm and a leg 🦵

At this point just be honest and tell Dominicans that you just don’t give a f***! This is just plain pathetic… an island with no postal service for two years now. No reliable airline serving the island.

The economy so terrible already, now who running business cannot supply their customers because our leaders cannot be bothered to put basic infrastructure in place.

in 2022, this is the up to date DLP version of Dominica!

So embarrassing this. We complaining about colonial this and colonial that but the British left a well functioning post service for us when we got independence. And that story about Liat being our link I suspect we still owe them a lot of money in their bankruptcy for carrying our mail. We are back in the bush man as far as mail service is concerned. I mean, we are not more than three hours by ferry from Guadeloupe or Martinique and they have flights every day to Paris. At least we could get our mail to Europe and even Africa that way but I suspect our credit is bad. How does a poor person send a letter or birthday card to their family in Dominica now. Shame on our government for letting this happen and put us back more than a century. And you boasting about being number one in resilience. Too much hollow noise coming from P.M office.

“Transportation of mail into and out of Dominica is experiencing a major blow since the Postal Services does not have its own form of transportation.”
I wonder how many post office globally have their own form of mail transportation? I have never seen a post office in the United States, Canada, or anywhere in Europe, have their personal aircraft’s transporting mail to other countries.
Air mail parcels, and letters are transported via regular flights; the problem is that Dominica, is the only backward place where there are no actual international connection via aircraft, and even at that a once- in- a- while cargo ships will not engage in that.
Mailing a letter to Dominica, from most places in the US to Dominica, takes between six months and one year to get there.
Meanwhile that corrupted son of Satan the devil Roosevelt, engages his company None existent Montreal Management to build International Airport.
Dominica, International Airport will remain invisible while Roosevelt…

It took you 2.5 years to finally make a statement and you still have not been able to get a reliable carrier to get mail in and out of Dominica.
    Incredible!!

Why are people complaining and suprised, this is normal way of life here in Dominica. IT takes about 4 years to resolve issues on this island.

Absolute nonsense. This has been the case for the past year or 2. And only now doing public relations? ONLY IN DOMINICA. This “so it is” attitude we have developed is really getting out of hand. It is so because we have allowed it to be this way. One day we will wake up.

Once upon a time there were boats that carried mail, doesn’t the Geest line call anymore either? That could carry mail from the UK and Europe.
Mail has been…. curtailed, and yet the GPO can’t think of anything else?
We still have the privilege of paying for unused mailboxes.
