ANNOUNCEMENT: Housing Revolution Continues

Before the 1st quarter of 2019 ends, new doors will be opened to 114 families as the government of the Commonwealth of Dominica hands over the keys to their brand-new homes.

There will be a total of 114 units in the 2nd batch of handover from the Bellevue Chopin Housing Resettlement Project.

The units to be handed over will consist of: thirty-two 3-bedroom townhouses, twelve 3-bedroom apartments, and eight 4-bedroom semi-detached houses for a total of 52 units in Bellevue Chopin – Area A1.

In addition, a combination of twelve 3-bedroom and twelve 2-bedroom apartments units in Area C1 and fourteen 4-bedroom detached houses in Area A2 are ready to be occupied and will be handed over.

As the construction swiftly progresses, the Commercial Plaza and Community Centre are on track to open in March 2019.

As of today, Castle Bruce and La Plaine – East Coast Housing Projects, have already completed more than 30% of overall construction. Furthermore, Georgetown and Cotton Hill – West Coast Housing Project, have reached 20% and 15% construction progress respectively.

All Housing Dominica projects are being funded fully by the Citizenship by Investment Programme (CBI) and are being built using modern construction techniques to ensure hurricane-resilient houses.

Latest updates:

East Coast Apartments – La Plaine and Castle Bruce construction projects are in full swing.

Here’s the sneak peek on their construction progress.

La Plaine Building A has ongoing plumbing works above the ceiling of its 1st floor units. Moreover, preparations are underway prior to the paint and stucco application.

The modern architectural design of the Castle Bruce eventually revealed its clean lines with inviting, open structural beauty upon the installation of its windows.

Further, the installation of door frames at the ground level and plumbing works in have begun.

La Plaine and Castle Bruce have both 66 residential units to be completed on June 2019.

I hope the people in Pointe Michele that lose their mother and 8 other family members will get a house. I read it some days ago and still feel so sorry for them. How come they haven’t gotten help yet? They’re the wrong color? All you, stop the madness. Everybody say all you red and take take take. Is all of us own!!! Is our passport, is our treasury, is our country, is our money!!!

“The modern architectural design of the Castle Bruce eventually revealed its clean lines with inviting, open structural beauty upon the installation of its windows.” (sic)

I am all for rehousing those made homeless, but what more can I say, other than what I’ve already said in my earlier DNO commentaries: “Culture Made Visible”, “Building Back Differently” and “A Plea for the Built Environment”.

Well yes, there is more to say and I’ve said it my forthcoming book of sketches titled, “Townscapes”.

The book begins with my native town West Riding of Yorkshire and ends with the towns and villages of my adopted Caribbean. Between the two I take a brief sojourn to Portugal and revisit Birmingham’s restored canal network. I end with a series of essays that express my concern about the present trend in Caribbean townscapes. The book will shortly be available from Amazon.

I ask again: where are our architects, planners and environmentalists?
