ANNOUNCEMENT: Petition to President of Dominica demanding removal of Electoral Commission Chairman

A group of private citizens has taken the initiative to petition His Excellency, the President of Dominica, to intervene with the chairman of the Electoral Commission, Gerald Burton, to either take immediate action for the reverification of the voters list and issuance of voter identification cards before the next general elections as recommended by the joint mission of the OAS, CARICOM and the Commonwealth Secretariat or to have the chairman replaced.

The petition states that His Excellency the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica has the constitutional responsibility to protect the rights of the Dominican people, to allow the Dominican people to enjoy their indomitable right to free and fair elections and must therefore intervene and implement the procedure of replacing the Chairman of the Electoral Commission as provided for in the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Dominica.

It goes on to state that there is no doubt that the conduct of Gerald Burton as chairman of the Electoral Commission is bad behaviour and sufficient grounds for his removal. All Dominicans will be severely affected by fraudulent elections precipitated by the failure of the Electoral Commission and more specifically, the Chairman who holds the deciding vote on the Commission.

Citizens and all Dominicans of conscience, the church, business, trade unions, women, youth, Labourites, Freedomites, and UWPites, are therefore encouraged to endorse the petition which will be delivered at the office of the President at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1st, 2019. All Dominicans are invited to participate in the process of achieving free and fair elections.
