FUNCTIONS OF THE IRC
The Decision-Making Process
Consumer’s participation in the Decision-Making process is also brought about through the publication of Consultative Documents which invite comments and evidence to be supplied, that may assist the Commission in the formation of its views. Through this medium, public’s views are expressed, and is particularly useful, particularly where an individual’s presence at a physical forum may not be possible.
This Consultative Document stimulates public debate on the subject matter on which the Commission is seeking views. The comments analysis and evidence supplied by respondents are a vital part of the discussion.
Transparency of the consultation process therefore, goes beyond the Commission making public its own views and analysis. In order for the public debate to be properly transparent, the responses made to the Commissions documents shall be made publicly available.
By so doing, the IRC also seeks to maintain one of its core cooperate values; that of transparency.
