VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: NBD Senior Credit & Business Development Officer – Underwriting

The National Bank of Dominica Ltd. is a leading indigenous bank in the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union, which offers a wide portfolio of loan and deposit instruments to its customers and is also an innovative and product savvy institution.

The Bank is currently inviting applications for the position of Senior Credit & Business Development Officer – Underwriting.  The incumbent will support the effective management and expansion of the Bank’s Credit & Business Development portfolio through credit underwriting and analysis with a focus on medium and large enterprise credit facilities. The officer will also provide strong support to the Manager, Credit & Business Development in the effective and efficient administration of the Underwriting, Monitoring & Review Unit.

 Specific Accountabilities include but are not limited to:


  1. Underwrites credit requests, primarily commercial facilities, reviewing against lending policies and guidelines and ensuring prudent analysis of all credit risk factors.
  2. Approves new credit requests or amendments to existing credits in accordance with Delegated Lending Authority, ensuring that facilities are within the Bank’s risk appetite with adequate risk mitigating factors.
  3. Performs the credit review function guided by the credit policy, to verify on an annual basis the customer’s credit risk profile, and to confirm that all documentation/information is in order.
  4. Identifies and documents emerging weaknesses in accounts – through the watch listing function.\
  5. Ensures that the requirements of all relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures are consistently applied in the management of the loans portfolio.
  6. Assists with the prompt resolution of any credit deficiencies highlighted in AML, Risk & Audit reports as assigned.
  7. Strongly and actively supports the customer care initiative; receives, accurately documents, and efficiently resolves customer queries and complaints within established timelines and where necessary liaises with other departments/units, undertaking adequate follow-up in a timely manner.
  8. Works in partnership with the Credit Business Development Unit to improve the Bank’s overall portfolio quality and to identify and eliminate negative trends.
  9. Pro-actively identifies new business opportunities from new and existing relationships.
  10. Provides support to the development & implementation of Unit’s training/development plan, and management of the subsequent knowledge transfer process to ensure overall performance enhancement.

Corporate Profile:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Banking, Accounting, Finance, Management or related field.
  2. Certification in Credit Appraisal and/or Portfolio Management.
  3. A minimum of five 5 years’ progressively responsible banking/credit experience with at least three (3) years’ experience in commercial lending.
  4. Thorough knowledge of relevant ECCB guidelines.

  9. Flexible team player with demonstrated ability to assess trends within the environment and influence and manage change effectively.
  10. Computer literate with intermediate to advance proficiency in the Microsoft suite.
