Gov’t announces Official Funeral for Parliamentarian Thomas P. Etienne

The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has announced that an Official Funeral service will be held in honor of the late Mr. Thomas P. Etienne on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Delices Pentecostal Miracle Temple.

This decision was confirmed by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Dominica via media release.

Mr. Etienne, a distinguished former parliamentarian, passed away on June 12, 2025. The government recognizes his notable contributions to national politics and public service and has granted him an Official Funeral, acknowledging his significant role in the country’s political history.

During his political career, shared the statement, Mr. Etienne successfully won his seat in the 1970 general elections, representing the South Eastern District in Parliament. He served as Minister of Agriculture, Lands, and Cooperatives under the administration of Edward Oliver Leblanc from 1970 to 1975. Later, he continued his service in the legislative arena as an opposition senator from 1990 to 1995. Beyond his political pursuits, Mr. Etienne was also dedicated to farming and worked as an educator in his earlier years.

In recognition of his service, a day of national mourning will be observed on July 19, the day of his funeral. During this time, all state flags on public buildings will be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect.

The funeral arrangements include a viewing starting at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. The ceremony will conclude with interment at the Delices Public Cemetery.

“The Government of Dominica extends deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Mr. Thomas P. Etienne,” concluded the OPM statement.
