Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that his government is expected to receive assistance from Venezuela to help build greater resistance in the east and southeast of the island.
He made the announcement while addressing hundreds of supporters at the launching ceremony of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) candidate of the La Plaine Constituency, Dr. Cassandra Williams, held in Delices last night.
On Sunday, November 6, significant flooding and major landslides occurred in the east and southeast of the island due to a trough system that left one man dead and some residents injured.
Roads were made impassable as a result of debris from the slides and homes. Infrastructure was also greatly impacted.
“I want to say to my friends in the Grand Fond Constituency and the south and southeast, including this constituency, we have a lot of work to do in this upcoming term in the east to build greater resilience, safer homes in safer places,” he revealed. “And just to let you know we have already started the work.”
He continued, “We have already started raising the funds for the interventions. And just yesterday, the reason I wasn’t at Grand Fond last night, I traveled to Venezuela to meet with the President of Venezuela to speak to him about support for the east of Dominica, to respond to the disaster and I can tell you I got good news for the south and southeast of Dominica.”
As the Prime Minister of Dominica, he made it clear that he will personally oversee the reconstruction of the east area of the island.

Are you going to put on a hard hat and start shoveling dirt to create the necessary pathways for water to flow and secure our river banks? You had 20 years, why didn’t you prioritize this after the last set of hurricanes that let DA understand what Climate change can bring? You now speak of a resilient DA, however, you are yet to really do anything – just talk. After the last major down pour that has now left those areas cut off, your response was to call a snap election. Please let me know why must we believe you now?
Why is yours truly begging for money from Venezuela what happened to the millions of dollars he took in from the sales of passports and citizenship? Is it in the Treasury like it is supposed to be or in some foreign bank account. Has he promised Venezuela something in return? This should be put to a national vote.

More lies! Why would Venezuela help us again, after they had to write off US$100million of Dominican debt. Up until today you haven’t accounted for this money, which no doubt is a default of PetroCaribe Dominica. You can’t fool us anymore, Skerrit.
Why do we have to run to Venezuela? Venezuela should ask him about the money for the Kalinago he stole under the guise of Maria, as if Maria didnt hit the Kalinago territory too. How did you travel to Caracas Roosevelt but more importantly why you need to wait for money from Venezuela when you can immediately use our CBI money for this purpose. I just hope that Venezuela money is not a disguise of suspect money money to be cleaned through your bank, especially as Venezuela is in dire straits itself while you have millions to spend on that non-election of yours.
