London-based photographer explores Dominican roots, blogs about it

Keisha George

Keisha George, a London-based photographer with a strong familial tie to Dominica through her grandparents, recently embarked on a transformative journey to the country. Capturing her experiences through the lens of her camera, Keisha’s blog not only showcases the natural splendor of Dominica but also delves into the profound personal significance it holds for her as a descendant of the island.

The capital Roseau

According to Keisha, being born in England, she acknowledges the privileges that come with it, yet also recognizes the shadow of passive-aggressive racism and systemic oppression faced by black and brown individuals. This harsh reality ignited a deep yearning within her to reconnect with her roots, describing the pull as more of an ancestral calling than a mere desire.

The blog not only features breathtaking pictures of the island but invites readers along as her process unfolds, and even incorporates some life lessons along the way!

Thank you Keisha for sharing your lovely photographs, your beautiful smile and your philosophical outlook on life. In return I would like to share with you a poem I wrote about Dominica, accompanied by photos I took – https://www.dominica.nu/DominicaSublime.html

I am English with a Caribbean wife. 27 years ago we relocated to Dominica with our two young boys aged five and one and a half. We have not regretted a minute of it. We love the climate, the nature and the intimacy of a small island community. I wish you much success in your photographic career., Best wishes, Colin [email protected]
