Barbados PM Mia Mottley Encourages Islanders to Connect, Share Knowledge to Fight Climate Change

Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley delivers the keynote address at the Official Opening of this year’s Island Innovation Virtual Island Summit.

The virtual summit, which began on September 26, brings together thousands of participants from across the world, to connect island nations and share knowledge to build resilient, sustainable, and prosperous island communities.

And as Barbados looks to build on the recent work done with the establishment of its debt conversion for nature programme with the Inter-American Development Bank and The Nature Conservancy, Prime Minister Mottley has explained the zero-carbon conference can be a major building block in the world’s efforts to build resilience in the face of global challenges such as the climate crisis.

“The ability for leaders and experts of island nations to come together on the basis of our shared experiences during this climate crisis, is a moment that is of great importance not just to us who live in island nations, but indeed to the entire world,” Prime Minister Mottley said.

“I truly believe we can, and must use this summit to advance the development of our global island community. As evidenced by the work Barbados has, and continues to do with respects to environmental advocacy and protection, we are ready to both take part, as well as grow via this important venture,” the Prime Minister added.

Meanwhile, Island Innovation Chief Executive Officer James Ellsmoor added: “Prime Minister Mottley is an incredible leader for islands. She has steered Barbados through unprecedented times and made a mark on the global stage as a fierce advocate for nations at the forefront of climate change impacts. Having Prime Minister Mottley opening the 2022 Virtual Island Summit is a great honour, and we expect that her remarks will set the tone for the event as well as strike a chord with over 10,000 island participants from around the world.”

The Virtual Island Summit will take place online, from September 26 – October 2, and will cover matters pertaining to all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, and aims to promote cross-sector collaboration to emphasise the need for input and partnerships across the private, public, academic, and NGO sectors.

Sack way vòlè; but then again while Dominica suffered from this tremendous loss which has been going on for twenty years, there are a small few in Dominica who gained because departure of Ross remove food from all the small investors, apartment owners into one bigger owner in Barbados; And while de shoe, with the little head on it, still kicking their backsides (donkeys) they woolaying for more bad treatment and disrespect and they cannot even see it. How did PM Mia Mottley of Barbados emerged on the global stage as the leading voice, champion, advocate for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) internationallly and regionally (CARICOM), when Barbados is hardly affected by natural disasters like Dominica?
After Hurricane Maria and the UN speech by PM Doctor Honourable Doctor Roosevelt Skerrit, the set up of CREAD (or GREED), because Dominicans do not konow how much money it receives and how much it spends. The appearance of so many working on the CREAD agenda , Climate Change, Resilient Dominica and overseas plane ridding from Francine Baron, Kenneth Darroux, Vince Henderson, Cozier Frederick, and even Edgar Hunter. How is it that Barbados is the world leader, leading voice for SIDS climate change agenda? At least at the CARICOM level it should be us, Dominica? Are we that weak? Is our Government of Dominica that imbecile, nincompoop?
It does not matter what party you support, you can see this is incompetence, weakness, Dominica!

“Meanwhile, Island Innovation Chief Executive Officer James Ellsmoor added: “Prime Minister Mottley is an incredible leader for islands.”

Dame Eugenia shattered the political glass ceiling and now PM Mottley is striking the right notes and showing the Caribbean and the rest of the world what resilient female leadership looks like. On the competency scale, she exposes some of those politically impotent male leaders.
