DLP secures six seats at the end of nomination day for December 6 general election

(L-R Top) Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit ,Dr. Irvin McIntyre and Jullan Defoe; (L-R Bottom) Roland Royer, Daren Pinard and Lakeyia Joseph

Come December 6, 2022, when Dominica is expected to hold its next general election, only 15 of the 21 constituencies will be up for grabs.

This, as the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) has successfully secured six seats at the end of nomination day, November 18, 2022.

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit was nominated unopposed in the Vieille Case constituency along with newcomers Lakeyia Joseph – Paix Bouche, Roland Royer – Cottage, Daren Pinard – Colihaut, Jullan Defoe: Petite – Savanne and returning MP for the Roseau Valley constituency, Dr. Irvin McIntyre.

The Electoral Office, in an earlier release, had stated that Returning Officers and Election Clerks would begin receiving nominations at 9:00 a.m until 4:00 p.m, for seven hours continuously.

“If at the end of seven hours, there is only one candidate duly nominated, the Returning Officer will immediately declare that candidate to be duly elected. If there is more than one candidate duly nominated, the Returning Officer will adjourn the poll to the date stated in the writ, December 6th, 2022.”

Every candidate must be nominated by no less than six (6) electors registered in the same constituency for which he/she is seeking election and must consent in writing to the nomination in Form 12, along with a deposit of $500 in cash.

“If he/she fails to do so, their nomination will be deemed void. Every deposit will be returned to the person by the Financial Secretary upon presentation of a certificate from the Chief Elections Officer that the candidate was elected or received not less than one-eighth of the total number of votes counted at the election. “

As a result of today’s outcome, voting will take place in the remaining constituencies of Roseau Central, Roseau North, Roseau South, Salisbury, St. Joseph, Soufriere, Grand Bay, Portsmouth, Wesley, La Plaine, Castle Bruce, Mahaut, Grand Fond, Salybia, and Marigot.

While two of Dominica’s opposition parties namely, the United Workers Party (UWP) and the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) have opted to boycott the election citing the lack of election reform as their reason, DLP on November 18, nominated a full slate of twenty-one candidates to contest the December 6 general elections.

Prime Minister and DLP Leader, Roosevelt Skerrit who was nominated in his hometown, Vieille Case, for the 6th consecutive election told the media shortly after his nomination, “I am very grateful to the voters of the Vieille Case Constituency who reposed their confidence in me in 2000 at age 27 and they are all still standing strong with me today.”

Adding, “So I am a very fortunate and blessed candidate. Every success I have had in politics is due to the people of the Vieille Case Constituency,” Skerrit expressed.

The Prime Minister announced on November 6 that Dominicans would return to the polls to elect a new Government to lead the country.

“As I indicated, this is a national reset. We are seeking to bring new energy so that we can face the challenges ahead,” the Dominican leader said, pointing to the impact of COVID-19 on world economies, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine War and the effects of climate change on vulnerable states.

“At this time we need strong decisive leadership and this is what I have provided the country with for the last eighteen years and this is what I will continue to give to this country after the elections are held.”

Dominica News Online (DNO) has been informed that despite calls by opposition forces to citizens to abstain from participating in the elections, several independent candidates were registered on nomination day.

If he is a disturbed and shameless boy,and the majority of Dominicans are supporting him,are you saying the majority of Dominicans are disturbed and shameless? It is those comments dirty, poor, hungry, greedy, unemployed and prostitutes levelled at the Dominican PEOPLE which caused UWP to be where it is today.Irvin Pascal,Henry Shillingford and Behanzin are advisers to UWP.They advised UWP not to get nominated, they turned around and they themselves got nominated, effectively killing and burying UWP.

The decision to stay away from the polls can yield no favorable results for the opposition. This is another situation where you were ill-advised and took on that bad advice. Staying away will only give the prime minister what e always wanted and will lead effectively to the death of the UWP. What the prime minister did may not be ethical but is in no way illegal so no organization, local, regional or international can assist in having the results overturned. The only thing left to do now is to rebuild the party in the next 5 years so you can come again in 2027.

DNO why did you omit my statement for Defoe, was there something wrong or you felt it was a poor statement which did not conform with your policies?.
I would appreciate a reply please. Bye for now Felix

This information tells the world that something is very wrong in Dominica and democracy has failed!
In the US people voted on November 7, to elect leaders to run their affairs. Up to today November 20, votes are still being counted and recounted to ensure democracy remains strong because in a democracy votes are very important.
In Dominica Skerrit said nomination is on November 18 and election is December 8. How could winners be declared on November 18, two weeks before Election Day which means nobody voted? Doesn’t that speak of a fraud system?
Ok, say Roosevelt Skerrit and Dr McIntyre returned their seats on basis of the 2019 election that they won. But how could newcomers Lakeyia Joseph,Roland Royer , Daren Pinard , Jullan Defoe be winners? By how votes they won? How many they got? Are we voting for seats or for individuals?
In a true democracy Charles Savarin, The Election Commissioner, police commissioner would have a lot of questions to answer because this is nothing but…

Who did newcomers Lakeyia Joseph – Paix Bouche constituency beat? Who did Roland Royer – Cottage beat? Who did Daren Pinard – Colihaut, beat? Who did Jullan Defoe: Petite – Savanne beat? How do we explain this to our children? Isn’t a contest or a fight be between 2 sides or 2 individuals? In my humble opinion if those seat were not challenged then the last winners should be returned since we don’t vote for seats but for individuals. So Roselyn Paul, Ian Douglas, Reggie Austrie and Catherine Daniel should be declared winners by default and not people that did not get one single vote! Clearly the electoral commissioner has helped Skerrit play by his own rule on his own court.
DNO I hope you know that news agencies around the world are reading your articles and are really taking note and asking serious questions

Clearly the writer does not understand the election policy or the laws governing elections even in the US. In a election if only one nomination is received then the person being nominated is considered duly elected.

In every other country the process is similar, or the seat declared vacant again and another nomination process is held for a second time. If after that process only one person is nominated again, then the nominated person shall be considered duly elected.

Roosevelt is a master manipulator but a numskulled administrator. He should be charged with arson.

He has set arson to the electoral system, our democracy, the local industries, the entire economy, even the healthcare system was not spared. Margot hospital is still out of commission. A white elephant?

When the Prince of Darkness was made prime minister, he was not ready for prime time. He was supremely ill-equipped.

The DLP has six seats even before one vote is cast in the snap election. One regional news outlet has described this as a record. Of course, it’s a most dubious record, and he continues to chalk up so many up to this moment.

Here are some of his ignominious records:
*Two bogus doctorate – Dr², Dr. Dr., Double Doctor, Fake Doctor ( the only prime minister with two doctorates)
*Dominica- the poorest country with the richest PM in the Caribbean( wizardry at its best)
*His carefully handpicked DPP defied the Dominica’s highest courrt, the CCJ (quashed the election petition cases)

Roosevelt will do anything to stay in power. The day he is booted out it’s automatic jail for him. His improprieties and illegal infractions dwarf Mount Everest.

Skerrit, is it true that a Petro Caribe employee had been suspended without pay after allegedly telling the fuel ship operator that they can leave port because the government cannot meet the demand for a cash transfer. Mag wais Ca.
So how it is then that the former Petro Caribe operation supplying fuel to island cannot pay their bills? Well, it’s rumoured that there is widespread racketeering taking place at the former Petro Caribe operation. First of all, the government ministers and other members of cabinet are able to fill-up their tanks free of charge. But we know how these hungry hyenas operate. Some fuel dispensing logs at the Petro Caribe site show that ministers of government receiving full tanks of fuel up to 7and 8 times a day. When a minister’s name is logged in 8 times in one day it’s because Parl. Reps have been sending people to fill up their tanks free of charge all day long- we are talking buses, trucks, SUVs all owned by loyal DLP supporter and other loyal visitors.

I am perplexed at the lack of attention on a global scale to what is occurring in Dominica. This is quickly becoming a non democratic island yet DLP supporters are just basking in this as a glorious win. Without an opposition there is no accountability & whether you are DLP, UWP or any other, you have lost your voice! Your freedom is strangled & your democracy is limited if not totally lost.

These UWP people are blind. It is plain to see the Majority of Dominicans support DLP. And yes DLP will take all 21 seats.UWP has no foot soldiers, nobody on the ground. For three years they have been using Q95 to spread false news, fake news, propaganda and lies to the people.Anytime Athie Martin,Thompson Fontaine and Johnson Boston is involved in something Dominicans get upset. The opposition MUST understand anything bad they say about Skerrit they say it about the people. It is like Lennox Linton he can do no wrong in the eyes of UWP.Not even when he is caught red handed in the Aljazeera matter.

DNO I didn’t disrespect anyone or made any threats. I simply pray the holy scripture over those who have done evil to my country and others that have vowed to continue to do evil. So please do not delete my blogs as everything i said is from the scripture. In fact let me quote Deueronomy 28:15 to you, which is the platform for my prayer for these government ministers and hopefuls
15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

Clearly that what the 6 that won by default on Nov 6, the other 14 that have been challenged and the other 9 Skerrit fired and buttered did to me and my country.
They have destroyed my future an mychildrens as they all disobeyed God’s word to accept bribe. I can’t call on the president, the police or electoral commissioner for help so all I can do is pray God’s word

  11. Wilderness Voice
    November 19, 2022

I have already prayed all the curses found in Deuteronoy 28:16-68 over those 6 that won by default on Nov 6 you see the 666 already? 6 winners on nov 6 and we will see the other 6 as we pray for the 9 Skerrit rejetected but buttered their mouth. We get the other 6 by flipping # 9.
So pray all the curses of Deut 28:16-68 over Roselyn Paul, Reggie Austrie, Ian Douglas, Esprit from bawi, Dr King (only if you take the bribe to stay quiet) As for Raymon Blackmore even more curse, Joseph Isaac all the curses of Deut 28 plus the curse that ended the life of Judas Iscarriot. Dr Darroux, all the curses of Deut 28, Kent Edwards all the curses of Deut 28 and you lady Daniel all the same. May the evil you did to Dominica follow you ten fold!
To the other 14 candidates that have been challenged I pray Deuteronomy 28:16 -68 over everyone of you. Though rich with Skerrit’s evil money, may you be without peace and tormented like Skerrit the rest of your lives until you repent from that evil man

This doesn’t even pass the smell test of an election. This is a coronation of a full-blooded sociopath. There is no suspense as to the results. Has anyone ever heard about a general election in Dominica where all the seats were confirmed for one party without any candidates of that particular party having to campaign?

Pardon my grammar but this news tells us and the entire world that Dominica is getting bade bader and bader, sicker and sicker and doomed and more doomed.
From the time Skerrit, Vince and Savarin attended the funeral of Rosie and Pierre Charles I knew their blood would cry over us but I didn’t think we would crumble so soon. But see us now. See what Skerrit did to our country. Now it seems like bribery is legal, corruption is legal and stealing is legal. No more can we trust our banks like this NBD where Daren Punard ran things for a number of year and NBD had money wings but the man is happy to be part of the Alibaba and the forty thieves club.
What this results tell us on nomination day is that Dominicans agree that the election is already stolen before Election Day and no damn law or constitution could stop Mr and Mrs Alibaba and their forty thieves and that cannot be good for the country.
May God’s wrath be on all these wicked Alibaba and his forty thieves gangsters

Premature Hollow Victory: DLP, Be Careful what you wish for!!

Approximately 5-years ago, Maduro and his party celebrated electoral victory in Venezuela despite greater than 80% of eligible voters boycotting elections. Today Venezuela is in the midst of economic collapse and, has generated the second largest global migration crisis (more than 6 million have left in past 5-years) and regional instability as Venezuelans spill into neighboring countries. The causes: bad economic policies, political conflicts, corruption, and anti-democratic policies engineered by Maduro and his predecessor Chavez. Venezuelans are fleeing because of food insecurity, lack of shelter and nonexistent employment opportunities. Today, estimates suggest greater than 90% of Venezuelan live in poverty. Dominica is at risk of facing a similar crisis as Citizenship sales implode (agriculture and manufacturing are already failing) and those who don’t support DLP see no alternatives but to leave island.

What’s all this lecture about Venezuela, ignoring facts with a comparison to support your political partisan beliefs. Venezuela economic collapse and migration crisis was not a result of eligible voters boycotting elections, but geopolitics and the elite class structure within Venezuela, so long for your presumption and quasi propaganda. Something you missed in your comparison and prediction, are we going to get a Juan Guaidó, like de facto President to lol.

To suggest that Dominica is at risk of facing a similar crisis as Citizenship sales implode (agriculture and manufacturing are already failing) is somewhat ludicrous, you must not just say things disregarding facts, evidence, and data thinking you are correct. People will leave Dominica for what ever reason, whether their dislike for the DLP, but they will always have a Mother land to return to which will be more developed all because of the vision
and leadership of this present DLP Government.
