Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, is expressing confidence that the people of Dominica will go along with the judgment of prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit when he called snap general election slated for December 6.
Speaking on state-owned NBC Radio in St Vincent, Gonsalves said he did not want to comment on the election but stated that he read what Skerrit said when he announced the election and within the Dominican context, Skerrit was in the best position to make that judgment.
“But he’s in the best place to make the assessment. I’m quite confident that the Dominican people will go along with his judgment. I’m sure that they’ll go along with his judgment because he has had an impressive record of achievement and he has grown in stature as a leader and in very difficult circumstances he’s steering the ship. Hasn’t been easy,” Gonsalves said.
He stated that he read Skerrit’s speech carefully and it was “very honest.”
“He didn’t mince his words and he is going to the electorate saying, ‘Listen, I have some good people; some I have to change because I want to be able over the next five years, as a matter of urgency, to address some of these things more efficaciously,” Gonsalves said.
The St Vincent leader added that he has been impressed with Skerrit’s leadership, saying that he came to office “when he was a relatively young man and, first, he had to find his feet and so forth”.
“…one of the things with Roosevelt, he has a good progressive framework in which he’s advancing things,” Gonsalves said.
Gonsalves’ opinion contrasts greatly with that of St Vincent’s opposition leader, Godwin Friday, who believes the calling of the election is “that kind of disregard for process” because Sir Dennis Byron, who the Government of Dominica appointed as the sole Commissioner of the electoral reform exercise is yet to complete his work.
He said opposition parties, which have been calling for electoral reform, have decided to boycott the polls and the entire matter is something the region must take a look at.
“We’re going to have, essentially, a government whose legitimacy is going to be very much questioned. And this is an unfortunate development in our region,” Friday said.
The two men are the only regional political leaders who have so far made public comments on the calling of the election two years before it is constitutionally due and which has created political turmoil in Dominica.
The United Labour Party (ULP), led by Gonsalves came to office in March 2001 and has remained there ever since.
The Dominica Labour Party (DLP) has been in office since 2000.
The two are the longest serving parties in office in the Caribbean.
This Ralph Gonzales is the same guy who Skerritt brought to Dominca to tell Labor party supporters that Dominca didn’t need an international airport. They were awestruck with his advice yet Skerritt has been promising an international airport every year since even though the country still doesn’t have one some twenty years later. Why should we pay any attention to what Ralph has to say given his bad advice of the past. Slavery didn’t last forever neither did the bondage of the Israelites, therefore the era of populist corrupt leaders like Skerritt and Ralph and Mia will not last forever. I’m not surprised by Ralph endorsing Skerritt and he doesn’t even mention the lie Skerritt gave the nation about election reform being put in place before the next election. Birds of a feather flock together.
Remember that story from long ago ? The one where the little boy cried wolf wolf wolf ? Got the people reved up only to find no wolf there ? Remember what happened when the wolf finally came ? Keep crying misery misery misery. Keep it up. It’s not for my benefit or yours that any politician seeks power … And I’ll tell you that those who say that they are tired of the government you’ve been given an opportunity to be rid of them early why not use it instead of saying no election chose your party and make the change….. But it’s the same two faced people who write crap here and stretch thier hand out for cool out…..thus it’s for them a cash cow….. Money to drive around fueling discord among neighbors…… Sowing division……. And the country remains look at those fools , how did labour gain power? By uniting with freedom …… Why not unite and move them ?……. No because everyone wants power for themselves…….
Take a good look at these two men; they are different in every which way – But their heart is the same in total blackness.
Yes Lin clown, PM, we’re going all the way with LABOUR PARTY. OUR PM, remember I told you I had an appointment on the 6th of December, but I took another one. Cuz on that day, i’ll be the first person to reach by the polling station.
You’re too wicked. Why don’t you want all Dominicans to enjoy at least a 1/4 of what you enjoy in Canada? You know no one can vote in Canada without their voter’s ID card and 2 pieces of identification. Why Elizabeth why don’t you want Dominicans to have free and fair elections like you do in Canada? Turn from your wicked ways Elizabeth and stop supporting evil deeds against your Dominican brothers and sisters.
Ralph Gonsalves looks haggard, disheveled and infirm. This man seems like he plans to rust and die in the seat of the prime minister.
It is said that wisdom comes with age and experience. Not always! Some rulers, like the all grey political dinosaur in St. Vincent, are stuck in their fraudulent, antiquated political ways.
Dirty, corrupt politics has done this pair well so they will continue to milk this cash cow until death do part.
Same as Athie Martin. Emaciated and unkempt. Same as Lennox Linton, ugly and cocky.
Wow Ralph you are a very wicked man, period…!!!
Wow!!! I’ve never felt more pumped up. For years I looked at my people as cowards and stupid to be allowing such madness from Skerrit. Now I see a great change in Dominicans and they are really going for the “keel” to rescue Dominica. Our people have been suffering for much too long. Even our mountains, hills, bridges and landscapes and languishing. Rivers are angry as hell rooting out trees abs scooping everything in their paths.
But with are chained Skerrit and his boys our environment will be peaceful once more. Those demons will return to oblivion. I always knew that the proud man would do himself in. And look it….he is on his way out into exile in Venezuela. We will have him return to stand trial. Better yet; the U.S Agents will pick him up for money laundry. Oops. Bye skero …………..
Ralph keep away ..
Mind your business…
IT’S NO REFORM, NO ELECTION in Dominica..
Keep your soldiers where they belong. This time it will be different….
Who watches the candidate launches? Labour Party treat The Honorable Dr Dr Ayatollah Skerrit like he’s God. They say stupid s**t like “Brothers & sisters, thanks to Skerrit we have life”, “thanks to Skerrit, we have air!”, “thanks to Roosevelt Skerrit, the galaxy was created!”, “thanks to Skerrit, Jesus died for our sins!”, “thanks to Skerrit, the rivers have water my brothers & sisters! LAYBAAAAAHHH!”
Ok, not in those exact words but it might as well be
So who expects Satan and the Devil to disagree nou
Birds of a feather flock together. Not Ralph
Gonzales alone will go along with the devil… In a few minutes from now:
N G Lapseng will endorse Skerrit too from his jail cell
Ali Reza Zibahalat Monfared will endorse him from jail too.
Alison Diazane Madueke will endorse him.
Francesco Corollo will do so too,
and the list goes on, and on, and on! All are/were his friend..
Wicked Soul…!!!
How long have I been saying we should prepare for the return of RSS? Now it is on us again, and what will happen? This time, they will do worse in Roseau than what was done in Salisbury.
Do you remember what the mercenaries told people in Salisbury, is _ _ _ _ we come to _ _ _ _ are u!
Meme bet, meme Pwell.. birds of a feather flock together….
RALPH keep your endorsement for yourself,
RALPH are your citizens equipped with VOTERS ID CARDS for voting
DO you have a clean VOTERS LIST
DO you believe in speaking truth to your citizens and honoring it
Birds of a feather flock together, While your people are happy and smiling
we are suffering here in Dominica.
One day you all will pay for the crimes, just a matter of time,
GOD IS IN CONTROLL
Look it, Skerrit feels the need to drum up support from abroad. Why don’t you ask uncle Ralph about his head. I mean a big brick is no joking matter. Skerrit you better watch out, lots of ‘ufos’ flying around recently.
Pure BS. Go eat you’re breadfruit and mind your business. While you at it. Pay the liat workers!
Disturbingly out of touch, though not really surprising.
These guys useing Nelson Mandela picture in their back ground to spew their folishness , what an insult to the people of South Africa . Mandela spend 27 years in prison to free his people and you all leaders in the caribbean want to enslave them the same thing he fought against , bunch of greed you know what.
NO REFORM NO ELECTION
Ralph go and clean your self you look untidy. Skerrit you are a coward, the people who pleed allegiance to you skerrit to hurt dominicans they live there and they have family there nuff said.
No surprise as comrade Ralph is a dying, pathetic political dinosaur that have similar traits as this buffoon. It’s a social club where they have all graduated from rags to riches on the sore backs of poor taxpayers.
In the OECS, Dominica and St. Vincent & the Grenadines are the two poorest. Both have the worst economy, highest unemployment, fewest opportunities for young people to advance themselves. Grenada, St. Kitts-Nevis, Antigua-Barbuda, St. Lucia are more economically sound although they have their own challenges.
This a case of birds of a feather flock together. I’m sure after the opposition leader of St. Vincent acre armies expressed grave concerns about the snap election MESS in Dominica, Roosevelt asked his brother in kind to lend him some support. No wonder both countries are tethering on total economic collapse.
Is he literally dying? Because when I 1st saw the photo, I was thinking “Boy…he looks like death”
No. However, this guy has chained himself to antiquated politics. He is divisive, power hungry, vindictive, uncouth, untruthful, and suffering from senility due to old age. Seems to be cognitive deficient.
Boy, I have been laughing uncontrollably all morning you all keep talking about Ralph. I feel sorry for Ralph but at the end of the day on December 6th, he will be a winner. Who got the last laugh? Ralph.
Ralph you send forces to Dominica 2019 to tear gas the people of Salisbury and other parts of dominica we the people sending you that message, and to the others loud and clear is not business as usual, we gonna stand for our country and we a very prepared. If you all start it we gonna finish it, we a waiting.
We as dominicans we dont !!!!!!!!! with your elections stay away from ours. Skerrit , Ralph Motley , Carbon and others Its not going to be like 2019.
NO REFORM NO ELECTION
Don’t be afraid, the vast majority of Dominicans are with Skerrit and DLP.Come December 6 2022 it will remain so.
The next person who becomes the PM of dominica should get dominica out of caricom, OECS, and everything else linking dominica to caribbean political leaders. It seems like it’s a boys and girls club and the citizens don’t matter.
I’m all for Caribbean unity but I 100% understand your point on this. CARICOM, OECS, the political leader etc aren’t doing what they’re supposed to be doing. They don’t care about the citizens, they just care about themselves
I think we would be better off in a Union with Guadeloupe an Martinique, in a partnership with France. That would make sense all the way round. Direct assistance from the EU, visas easier or not at all, defence and border control better, banking easier, more and easier investment from France and other EU members etc. Plus we would not need all that top heavy government apparatus with President and all that. for a population of barely 70,,000. We certainly would get better connections with the rest of the world both by sea and air.Let’s go for it or at least seriously examine the advantages this may bring.
That’s a very good point! I completely agree with you
Slightly different to what you said but I’ve always said Dominica should become an overseas department of France like Guadeloupe & Martinique
You’ve made very good arguments for why we should. We should definitely go for it
Just a bunch of corrupt politicians we have in the Caribbean. They are all cut from the same cloth. I know a businessman who has dealt with Ralph. These guys are only there to line their pockets. They have designed clever schemes to distance themselves from being accused of corruption. But everybody is in on the game. Everybody knows what how the game is played and what they need to do to do business in these islands
“St Vincent PM confident Dominicans ‘will go along’ with Skerrit’s judgment on snap election”
The word on the street is that the spouse of PM Gonsalves is a Dominica. We are very confident that PM Gonsalves knows a thing or two about Dominicans “going along” with alternative facts and farcical hokum. Thanks.
You see Juanita, Ralph Gonsalves is very smart. He knows how susceptible Skerrit is to flattery so next time he wants something the boy Skerrit will not refuse. Uncle Ralph playing Skerrit like a yo-yo.
Caribbean people should pay VERY, VERY CLOSE attention to the AXIS OF LABOUR governments that are CURRENTLY (as in right now) holding the seats of government in the region:
– Barbados – Barbados Labour Party
– St Vincent & Grenadines – Unity Labour Party (ULP)
– St Lucia – St Lucia Labour Party (SLP)
– Commonwealth of Dominica – Dominica Labour Party (DLP)
– Antigua & Barbuda – Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP)
– St Kitts & Nevis – Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP)
[All the above – Their party Colour is Red]
Variations:
– Jamaica – Jamaica Labour Party (party colour Green)
– Trinidad & Tobago – People’s National Movement (PNM) (however, its party colour is Red)
Do all these parties/governments share the same ideologies? Are their ideologies socialist in nature or not?
Is it a coincidence or by design that all of them are in power at this time?
Are Caribbean people unsuspectingly currently living in a One-Party State (oops….) One-Party…
you definitely don’t know Caribbean politics if you are saying the JLP is aligned with the DLP. Skerrit’s party is closer aligned with the People’s National Party (PNP). In the seventies when there was political upheaval it was the PNP under Michael Manley who was a socialist and JLP led by Edward Seaga who was a capitalist aligned with the US. They may have softened their position but their philosophies are generally still the same.
On another note, all those attacking the prime minister of St.Vincent need to stop. Foreign intervention in a country’s political affairs is wrong in every way. I warned you all just yesterday when you were happy about Dr. Firday’s support for the opposition’s positions. If outside interference is good for one, then it’s good for all. You all accept outside influence so do not complain when the RSS comes here. Typical of all sycophants always putting their foot in their mouth.
West Indies Federation 2.0
Sometimes, I actually wish we was one state, imagine we were REALLY unite, like a ‘United States of the Caribbean’ or something
Blacks in general are naturally socialist and the labour parties throughout the OECS have used that to gain and solidify their power. Even in the United States blacks vote about 80% for the Democratic party which is the equivalent to the labour parties in the Caribbean, the weird things is even as these socialist continues to fail their constituent they receive even more support. For example the labour party in Dominica lost Ross medical school and 35% of their GDP yet won the next election by more votes like wise Democrats run cities in the US have the highest crime rates, drug rates, unemployment rates and failing schools .
No doubt that this “Godwin Friday” fellow would oppose. That is the work of the “opposition”–unfortunately for them.
They are there to speak negatively against everything that is positive on the other side. It is no wonder that they remain on that dark side of the World, for ages to come.
The majority people of any Nation, always want to walk the path of Light, there is no path in darkness, or negativity.
…and you speak positive about everything negative in DA. Hypocrite!
Bro I noticed that you deliberately avoided mentioning “Electoral Reform” do us a favor Dr “stay in your lane” and make sure you keep your SSU out of our political business, need to get rid of these “political pedophiles” in the Caribbean presenting themselves as leaders; “no Reform no Vote” put that in your ganga pipe and smoke it.
Birds of a “FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER”. According to some leak documents from the US Embassy in Barbados during WikiLeaks, these two guys have one thing in common, their doctrine is directly from the handbook of the late Chavez.
But Skerrit has a graduated higher and join the ranks of Assad in Syria.
Once he achieves the constitutional mandate from the masses (fraudulently), he will declare himself as an Executive President. This is Skerrit’s main objective and that will be his legacy. His wife becoming a politician is part of the of plan which will eventually lead to A Family Dynasty.
Don’t forget Gonsalves and his son Camillo.
Don’t forget Skerrit’s son the one breaking ribbon and was handing over the keys to apartments to DLP Supporters.
Thank you uncle Ralph but we do not need you what is good for us. Your endorsement of Skerrit is more like a kiss of death brother.
