Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau North Constituency, Miriam Blanchard has said that job creation is at the core of her development plans for that constituency.
She made the statement during the debate on supplementary estimates during the first sitting of parliament last week.
“The development of the youth of Roseau North is a priority for me,” she said. “It’s no secret that the youth need new avenues created for them to build more hopeful futures and it is surely one way to achieve this.”
Blanchard continued, “I know that getting my young people to work will improve their morale stemming from the basic ability to provide for themselves, empowering them to escape poverty and improve their standards of living.”
She continued, “So one may ask how do I intend to do this? Job creation is at the core of my development plans for Roseau North.”
According to Blanchard, the entry point for this would be the establishment of training programs to first introduce young people of Roseau North to areas of technical and vocational skills, to which they have not yet been exposed.
She explained that the ultimate objective is to empower the youth with hard skills that they can transfer into real jobs for themselves and hopefully be able to create employment for others.
“My goal is to engender a passion for entrepreneurship with assistance from the numerous support services available within the government system,” Blanchard noted. “We will be taking advantage of the technical support and assistance available through the Dominica Youth Business Trust, the Small Business Support Unit, Work Online Dominica, and other similar programs.”
I have known Miriam for a long time now and I know her to be a no-nonsense, go-getter type of person. She’s not a stuck up as some people would believe.
The reality though is that she’s part of a regime that clearly has a policy of persons begging and dependent on the government. This is dangerous and to me unless that policy changes, I don’t see any change in the status quo.
Why is she part of that regime? Was she forced? She is part of it to feather her nest and that goes for that entire regime. Not one exception.
Right after de last election you changed your number……..Roseau north dlp supporters couldn’t reach you.
Skerrit has been talking Dat crap for ever…..de solution is NEP and he finish with that……..you can do better than Skerrit?????
This is a joke really!!!!!
You are a pretender and a fake…….you not a people person…….too conceited
These so called ministers statements are not authentic and will never be because all their statements are baseless and pure lies. Non of them can ever come on a platform and speak truth to betterment of Dominica. We all know what’s their agenda is “only to fill their pockets” with our monies.
The sad truth is, ” we the people know exactly what their motives are yet continue to allow these madness.”
Until we all decides to join together to root out these wicked and evil people out of politics never to return, then we will just allow our life to fade till death.
Dominican, please lets stop being partisan but instead lets fight for our freedom, ” UNITY IS STRENGTH”
The government did not give private agricultural lands to foreigners, you, because of laziness gave your land to Haitians.Today Fond Cole is a city, thanks to the DLP who gave them land at $1.00 a sq ft.I spoke to a young Haitian who told me he is planting on lands in an agricultural village in Dominica and he is paying two people to help. There are people in the NEP programme who are working in financial institutions.UWP and their supporters are lazy, greedy and always complaining, that is why they continue to remain in the yard.Recent count Dominica has 38,501 registered vehicles in a population of 72,000.Where is the money to buy vehicles coming from?
I getting a better understanding of your thoughts and your mindset
You talking about Haitians not de supporters of the government.
We know some ministers have more vehicles than they can count on one hand……..registered in loyalists girlfriend and boom boom fly names.
Is only some clowns that can’t seem to get it!!!!!!
If criticism is meant to be constructive then this is my only critique..
The statement “It’s no secret that the youth need new avenues created FOR them to build more hopeful futures and it is surely one way to achieve this.”
should be replaced with
“It’s no secret that the youth need new avenues created BY them to build more hopeful futures and it is surely one way to achieve this.”
The rest of the statement basically points to existing frameworks that have not produced much results.
Respectfully.
Lady, you all are just wicked. Bla, bla, bla, bla,…. For about 20 years, you all know that job creation should be a priority, but what has been done? All our jobs are given to outsiders, mainly in large no bid projects, and you all think that the best that can be done is to give a NEP job to the young people. It’s time that our youths make their voices heard and push back against this evil.
You all are wicked!!
Job creation? Just more mumbo jumbo from a government that does not have the slightest clue about managing an economy. They pulled in billions of dollars from passport sales. Instead of using that money as a base to grow the economy, they used it to line their pockets, giving handouts to supporters.
Now that they see an end or at best a curtailment to that program, they suddenly realized the need to grow the agricultural sector.
These guys are good at talking but no so good at doing.
The buzzwords* hard and soft skills are a US military import into our language. The terms are related and Dominica has a deficiency of both. However, “soft skills” might be considered the more important of the two at this point in time – especially within government.
The list of “soft” skills includes:
Creativity; Adaptability; Communication; Conflict Resolution; Reliability; Time Management; Motivation; Analytical Thinking; Questioning and Empathetic Listening to Another Point of View.
*Buzzword: An important-sounding word or phrase often of little meaning, used chiefly to impress laymen.
