Dominica and Vietnam agree to expand bilateral cooperation

Henderson, Vietnam’s Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son

Dominica and the Asian country of Vietnam have agreed to expand cooperation in many areas as the two countries observe ten years of diplomatic relations.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy, Dr Vince Henderson, is in Vietnam on a five-day official visit at the invitation of Vietnam’s Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

The two held talks in the country’s capital, Hanoi, on Monday, March 20 and agreed to work closely, not only between the two countries but also to expand cooperation between Vietnam and CARICOM.

On his Twitter page, Bui Thanh Son said he was pleased to host Henderson on the occassion of the years of diplomatic relations.

“There remains much potential for cooperation in trade, agriculture, fishery, tourism, etc. We also agree to work closely in the UN and boosting Vietnam- CARICOM relations,” he wrote.

Online news portal, Voice of Vietnam (VoV), reported that Son welcomed Henderson’s visit to his country, saying the guest is the first cabinet member of the Commonwealth of Dominica to visit Vietnam.

He said Vietnam places great emphasis on the importance of strengthening relations with Dominica and hopes that the two sides will continue to explore cooperation possibilities to match the potential and strengths of each country.

Son also suggested the leaders of the two countries meet on the sidelines of international conferences and foster cooperation at the United Nations and other multilateral agencies.

According to VoV, for his part Dr. Henderson expressed Dominica’s admiration for Vietnam’s achievements in foreign affairs and socio-economic development Vietnam and affirmed that Dominica always wishes to strengthen relations with Vietnam.

He agreed with Son’s proposals for cooperation in the fields of trade, agriculture, fishery and tourism and asked Vietnam to share its development experience with Dominica.  He also said he expects the two sides promote cooperation in the fields of agriculture, fishing, as well as in response to climate change and sea level rise.

During his stay in Vietnam, Dr Henderson is expected to meet leaders of a number of private enterprises including Vietnam’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer Vinfast, and visit several tourism and cultural sites in Hanoi.

Vietnam, officially known as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, is located in Southeast Asia.

It has a population of 96 million and is the 16th most populous country in the world.

The country has one of the fastest growing economies of the 21 century with the World Bank describing it as a “development success story.”

However, according to Human Rights Watch, Vietnam has a poor human rights record and it has ranked among the lowest in international measurements of civil liberties, freedom of the press, and freedom of religion and ethnic minorities.

Actually, Vietnam produces excellent coconut oil; our merchants should step up and import sufficient quantities of coconut oil from Vietnam so we can get rid of the inferior seed oils on our store shelves. The consumption of these so-called vegetable oils contributes to our epidemic of CNCD and the sooner we get rid of them the healthier we shall be.

The Arabs and Syrians arrived in Dominica with nothing.Because of their lack of jealousy for each other, their togetherness and their willingness to help each other they are where they are today. The black Dominican is ungrateful, greedy, lying, lazy a crook, gossiper and a traitor he will betray his country and people to get crumbs form another race table.Typical UWP.Take a look at Dominica,Dominicans gave their lands to Haitians, today the Haitians have built houses and open businesses.Where are the children of the big land owners,on drugs, homeless, and unemployed, living on food stamps and section 8 in the USA.The Chinese came with nothing, they rented all delapidated buildings and opened businesses in Roseau. The black Dominican will wait for the first opportunity to criticize his country.Read their comments they criticize everything in favour and in the interest of Dominica.China,Russia and Vietnam all communists have embassies in the USA. The idiots want us to believe otherwise.

Here we go again foolishness coming from fools.During the Vietnam war the USA fought on the side of South Vietnam(Saigon) against the North(Hanoi). The USA wanted to prevent the North communists from taking over the South so called democracy. In the process the USA lost 58,220 soldiers, after which they put their tails between their legs and left Vietnam.Today the USA has very close diplomocratic relations with Vietnam.

What’s wrong with supporting China and Russia? So should i support America?
America and its allies have done a million times more harm to mankind than those two countries ( China and Russia) combined.
Stop bringing your westen crap to my attention. You are ill informed. Maybe you should stop listening to BBC, CNN, MSNBC, and do your own research. After all we are in 2023.

China and Russia are strengthening bonds because of America’s dumb and dangerous foreign policy. When you have a foreign policy predicated upon wars, regime change and geopolitics, eventually countries will gang up against you. That’s what you must understand. None of Americas wars has been about democracy. You can’t export democracy. Democracy is not a bunch of bananas or a cigarette. Its like we (the USA) are the sole super power, so we do what we want, and you do what we say. That’s why i love the way the world is gravitating now, into a multipolar world, with strong blocks like BRICS….I also love the rise of China.
America is no angel brother. America has proven to be worse than Russia and China combined.

A white man is eagerly welcome in a black man’s country; It’s not the other way around. The reason being, the black leaders are greedy, corrupt and
loves money above his family. This, the white man knows for a fact. So with boldness and money to give away; the black man will sing his redemption song. This is a trade which the white man has learned from way by when. And the black man loves to shake hands with the white man. This isn’t something new. This is how we in Dominica forfeited our land and property to the Arabs and Syrians. Today they are ruling us and even controlling our government. The black man is definitely inferior to all other races. And there are many evidence to prove that fact. However, he isn’t inferior with God. I do believe that Jesus Christ was a black man. But this black man didn’t love money, nor was He corrupt. He suffered much injustice like we experience today. A Samaritan woman refused to give Him a drink of water because He was a Jew. Pay day is coming.

“Dominica and the Asian country of Vietnam have agreed to expand cooperation in many areas ”

So, in what areas are they going to expand this cooperation since none exists?

What does Dominica have in common with Vietnam socially, or economically? Within the last ten years or more that Roosevelt established diplomatic relation with that Totalitarian, country, (State), what has Dominica benefited from Vietnam?
We can’t ship any of our agricultural products to Vietnam because all the staples we grow are grown in Vietnam; so this bilateral agreement seems to be only sweet sounding words, bilateral agreement is simple a contract, binding stipulation!
Bilateral contracts are the most common kind of binding agreement; where each party becomes an obligor which is bound to another; and their own promise.
So too, there can be an obligee; where one is obligated, or bound on the other persons promise.
Shall Dominica be bound on Vietnam promise, whereas Roosevelt constantly seeks…

The thing is we can benefit a lot from those diplomatic engagements, but sadly,
Dominica’s leadership is not forward looking, and the government lacks the vision and capacity to negotiate. Where on earth except in Dominica one man (Skerrit), can be the minister for everything, and spoils everything?
      Only in Dominica.

Anytime the Roosevelt’s administration signs a ‘bilateral agreement’ with another country, Dominica can be referred to as a baby, and that country a lactating mother. Roosevelt goes to his knees in supplication begging for loans, grants and all manner of donations.

How do I know this? After the passage of Hurricane Maria, it came to light that Dominica was deeply indebted to many countries and organizations all over the globe.

Vietnam will now become the latest victim of Roosevelt’s obsessive propensity for begging and borrowing.

    • March 21, 2023

It’s an interesting development. Considering that Vietnam and China are at odds on their maritime boundary and other matters, this shows that Government is pursuing a broader approach to diplomacy than just working with China.

And it’s true that as a country of 100 million people that is rapidly developing economically, Vietnam has more to offer us than we do them, but that they’re still keen to host our Foreign Minister for several days strikes me as quite positive.

Let’s see how it works out, but i am not too optimistic. I thought the switch from Taiwan to China was a brilliant idea, and it indeed was. Unfortunately it was badly managed, and Skerrit made a mess out of it. It is still shrouded in secrecy, and has not materialised into what it promised to be..From the outset negotiations must have been terrible. Remember Reggie Austrie returned and told Dominicans that the team nehotiated for 19 hours non stop, and labourites were clapping. No wonder they were fooled in China!!!
Anyway re the Chinese again, they are like lions in this part of the world. They recently used powerful laser lights to blind Philiphino fishermen whom they thought were fishing in their waters. The Philiphino government had to take this to the UN i think…!

        • March 22, 2023

I’m no fan of the Chinese government, but I understand PM Skerrit’s decision to recognise them, and I can’t deny they’ve largely done what they said they would do. No one else was going to help rebuild our roads or build a stadium or an airport. I wish the liberal democracies of the world would step up that way, but they haven’t.

Are you a simpleton? There is always an ulterior motive with the Chinese. Nothing is done in good faith for poor countries.

Have the Chinese ever try to assimilate into the indigenous population? That speaks volumes.

I heard the Ghanaian president spoke about the Chinese and their exploitation of both people and resources in his country. He got rid of them.

I have learnt to beware of Chinese bearing gifts for strings are always attached.

When a large country engages in close ties to a tiny country the relationship is not mutual. There are ulterior motives. Vietnam may be looking to dump some of its products of inferior quality on Dominica.

It would be bizarre for a lion to cultivate a close relationship with a rabbit. unless the lion has something to gain.

So, what does this crypto currency thing has to do with Dominica?

Haven’t you heard that one of the largest banks in America which failed two weeks ago was heavily involved into crypto currency?

Remember such currency cannot be held physically in the hand, its only on paper via an image! The reality is such currencies are not financial assets; they also lack physical substance; therefore they meet the definition of an intangible asset and recorded at acquisition cost.

Now how many of the labor clowns, and Roosevelt supports heard Roosevelt and (Darreou), name not spell correctl; but anyway once said that Dominica was going to be the first country in the Caribbean, and the world to be using crypto currency as our native currency.

They talk crap not understanding what they are talking about; Somebody need to asks Roosevelt in what form would it be spent to buy run and food in Dominica?
