Minister responsible for Senior Security, Dr. Adis King, has announced that her ministry is in the process of putting policies in place to address concerns as it relates to the abuse of the elderly in Dominica.
Her announcement was made as the Dominica Council on Ageing (DCOA) celebrates Centenarian Day today.
“One of the things that we are very concerned about is elderly abuse and of course, we have a day every year that we come out and talk and let people be aware of the daily abuse that some of our elder persons go through and the ministry is very concerned about that,” she said.
She continued, “That’s why we are in the process of putting some kind of policy in place, especially for elderly homes and persons who actually take care of the elderly.”
According to Dr. King, her ministry is pursuing it actively and just recently dealt with the Maintenance Act as well which will be brought before Parliament soon.
“Because what the Maintenance Act talks about is actually not only the maintenance of spouses but also maintenance of parents and grandparents,” she added.
Dr. King indicated hat the plan is to stamp out elderly abuse and to inform the general public, “that we have a responsibility to take care of our elderly and the well-being of our elderly in society is very important.”
Meanwhile, the DCOA recognized its President Ophelia Marie during an awards ceremony that took place at the Goodwill Parish Hall on Thursday night.
Other individuals and institutions were also recognized for their contributions made to the elderly on the island.
Dominica has a Dept. of Ageing in place as far as I know. Why not broaden on that structure to include medical attention and food delivery for the elderly who mostly care for themselves. Get a consensus of who these elder persons are in each village and let the councilman/woman manage the care of the most vulnerable older persons.
I also know that nurses visit older people who lack the mobility to travel to the clinics, so those nurses can also deliver foods and ensure that individuals are getting help.
Dominica has to use the programs, which have been in place instead of crafting new ideas which will cost money and energy to implement.
They don’t care about wasting money and energy. After all it’s not their money they playing with. Propaganda, that’s what they are after. They want to be seen to do something, even though that something never amounts to anything. I’m flabbergasted that Dominicans still don’t see through that Dictator of theirs and his methods. Propaganda is the live blood of these regimes.
Have you heard the saying “An over-indulgence of anything can intoxicate” yes, I’m referring to your chronic criticism and disdane for misrepresenting facts with your mischievous political agenda of propaganda. Why don’t you take time and listen to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7pdHIHtiFo.
As to your belief about the polices of The Government and The PM, I will tell you this, the future will tell us the truth, and evaluate each of The PM polices according to his work and accomplishments, not by you with your daily chronic criticism in pursuit of your Political agenda.
Ops, the above comment was an intended reply to Ibo France
Gary, anyone thinking of committing suicide should climb to the top of your exceptionally tall ego then jump down to your IQ
Gary, the P.M. your beacon has proven to be a pathological fibber my friend and has a disorder called narcissism and unfortunately nothing can be done about that. He can’t change, it’s the way he is but meanwhile we have to suffer the consequences. Remember genius is a close cousin of madness.
She continued, “That’s why we are in the process of putting some kind of policy in place, especially for elderly homes and persons who actually take care of the elderly.”
Dr. King, this does not say anything. What is “some kind of policy”? Come on Doc do better than that.
This entire article is a lot of words which says nothing. It appears that the Minister was caught off guard and no preparation went into her presentation.
That is why the majority of Dominicans not voting UWP,Same old BS coming from IBO.This individual chose to forget it was UWP who introduced the HOSPITAL USER FEE with no exception. Not only did Skerrit remove the murderous HOSPITAL USER FEE from the backs of the elderly,he introduced the $300,monthly,the YES WE CARE and the FREE medical for 60 years and over.IBO must be reminded that only the UWP JAH KAS.ES and make up stories, no facts no evidence artists chose to forget.
Is there mothing that this government have done? Caurse every time i hear them talk is always about something they going to do,have to do,oh they will do its like they just come. God help us.
Absolutely true. It’s always something that is in the pipeline to come on stream: geothermal energy, international airport, ROSS replacement, electoral reforms, new cruise facility, transparency about the $2.5B -the list is infinite.
This administration is in the process of putting policies in place to address concerns of the elderly after being in government for the last twenty two consecutive years? This is further concrete evidence that the Roosevelt’s oligarchy is the most lethargic, underperforming, floundering government of all the countries in the Caribbean barring none.
Not only the aged needs help, but the rapidly increasing number of vagrants, nomads, substance abusers, mental!y ill, sexually abused children, victims of abject poverty, physically challenged, unemployed, et cetera.
The island is in disarray. When you are lucky not to be the next victim of a bullet, you are most likely to be a victim of Roosevelt’s misguided domestic policies.
