Four Jamaican and 10 locals among artists scheduled to perform at WCMF 2022

Four of  Jamaica’s big named artists namely reggae superstars Sizzla,  Dexta Daps,  Christopher Martin as well as ‘dancehall princess’ Shenseea are among the major acts who will hit the big stage of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) 2022.

Following a two-year hiatus, the 22nd edition of this year’s festival was officially launched last evening -August 10- where 21 of the confirmed performers were revealed to the public.

Among the other international acts in this year’s lineup are Trinidadians Patrice Roberts who performed at the last festival in 2019 and Kes the band who made an appearance in 2018.

Making an appearance for the French, Zouk and compa lovers will be the former lead singer of Kassav band Jocelyne Béroard. Representing the Haitian Kompa music will be K-Dilack and Bedjine,  well-known Haitian artist/band Enposib, Chire Lakay as well as  French singer of reggae-dancehall music Admiral T.

Significantly, this year’s lineup includes several local artists including the WCMF veterans Bouyon Boss’ Asa Bantan and TK international.

Also expected to rock the festival are bouyon legends, WCK and the almost 40-year-old versatile first serenda band. Also on the lineup will be Dominica’s cadence icons Midnight Groovers.

Fans will also be treated with ‘the youngest and the baddest’ Signal Band, Dominica’s number one dancehall artist Colton T and Dominica’s very own kompa band the Extacy band.

Making their first appearance as a sole artist on the big stage will be ‘the fresh prince of boyoun’ Reo ok Boom and ‘Bouyon queen’ Carlyn XP.

As announced, season tickets will be sold at a cost of 375 dollars however patrons do have the opportunity to take advantage of the early bird special of 300 on the Dominica Festival Comittee (DFC) website.

Nightly tickets are also being sold at EC$150.

“Anything for a “S.E.W.O” guess Dominicans have been waiting for so long to “EXHALE” that I suspect this $150 nightly will become a political “cool out” mark my words.

I don’t mind the four Jamaican artists but maybe they need to remove‘ creole’ from the name because I can’t see how Jamaicans will contribute to our creole culture. I think with so many Haitians in Dominica it would make more sense to have some Haitian bands or even bands from Guadeloupe and Martinique. If is the reggae they want to bring in then what about our own Reggae superstar?
I just think it’s more sounding like a Skerrit treating just ahead of that stolen snap election he wants to call

Creole means broken language. Jamaicans consider their colloquial tongue as patois/creole. Just because is not soukous or kompas doesnt mean they dont qualify. like or hate it its the truth.
