‘Be each other’s keepers’ advises Mayor Royer, for the Carnival season

Mayor of Roseau, Sandra I. Royer

Mayor of Roseau, Her Worship Sandra Irmine Royer has called on Dominicans to come together to make the Dominica Carnival experience a memorable one this year.

She was delivering remarks at the official opening of the 2023 Carnival Season under the theme: “Mas An Lawi”.

“Over the past three years there have been many benefits for persons partaking in the Carnival activities and I am sure that there are opportunities, so everyone during the season search for a skill, talent within you, showcase that talent whether it’s in pageantry, calypso writing, costume building, parade marshal, judging, music players, vendors, even the peacemaker, our Carnival calls for all hands on deck to make Dominica Carnival experience a memorable one this year,” she said.

She continued, “Let us embrace our Dominica culture with pride, let us grow in love and brotherhood, let us celebrate our difference in unity and harmony.”

According to Royer, she hopes that this Carnival Season will be one of the best ever experienced in recent times.

“I say so because we live with hope that we can do better than in previous years, we can be more creative, resourceful, entertaining, respectful and that we can exude more restraint and greater tolerance for each other,” she stated.

Furthermore, Royer pointed out that Carnival 2023 should not only be seen as a time for wearing costumes and playing Mas, but it should also be seen as a time of making friends, casting aside our troubles, and forming fond memories.

She said for over 200 years Dominica has been celebrating Carnival in the City of Roseau.

“We continue the rich tradition of handing over the keys to the City of Roseau as a symbolic gesture of goodwill and social harmony throughout the Carnival season and beyond,” Royer noted.

She thanked those who continue to upload the rich traditions and who continue to put their collective skills and resources together to help market this Carnival product and parade in the city.

“It is indeed a very proud moment for us today,” she said.

She urged adults and parents to be of good influence. “Be each other’s keeper,” Royer said.

She also urged young people to preserve their dignity.

“I further urge all residents of the City to unite and welcome all with open hands,” Royer urged. “Open your hearts to the visitors and returning Dominicans.”

Royer encouraged all to be respectful, and law-abiding, and to act responsibly.

The PM got women running tings ,how is the average Dominican man feeling right now. Go-ahead and ask them. As PM no woman not ruling him,so he should sympathise with the average Dominican man.from the outside looking in Dominica is leading the way on equality but at what cost to the society. The Bible says man is the Head of the household.

Since the MP for Roseau central appears to be in charge of things in town, under the auspices of her husband, our PM, who has publicly declared that he runs things and that no law or constitution will stop him. What is the job of the Major and what authority does she have and what is she remunerated for? Is this just a ceremonial position that has no executive power whatsoever? I think this is a fair question to ask, don’t you?
