Blanchard promises jobs to her Roseau North constituents in Goodwill Secondary School project

Miriam Blanchard addressing parliament

Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau North Constituency, Miriam Blanchard has given the assurance to her constituents that they too will benefit from government projects in that constituency, making reference to the ongoing Goodwill Secondary School project.

Blanchard made that statement during her address in Parliament recently where the Government of Dominica received approval from Parliament for a loan of over US$111 Million from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to fund the Roseau Enhancement Project.

“Be assured that I will keep abreast of this project and its development, because I know there will be opportunities for you,” she said. “I will certainly be looking and will be working with my colleague, Minister for Housing and Parliamentary Representative for Roseau Central, so that I can secure some jobs for you.”

Blanchard continued, “While we sat at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Chinese funded schools, which includes the Goodwill Secondary School, a number of persons from Roseau North had already been employed by the Chinese contractors associated with the Goodwill school.”

In addition, Blanchard revealed that she has received names of a number of young persons both male and female who have reached out to her for employment on the Goodwill Secondary School project. She said the list of names will be passed on to the Chinese through the Ministry of Education and the Public Works Ministry.

“I stand with no doubt that… I am sure a number of them, if not all of them will get positions at that school,” Blanchard stated.

She went on to state that based on the information received from the Ministry of Education, not only labourers are going to be employed on that project as a number of service providers have been in touch with the Ministry of Education and some will receive contracts to provide services on the project.

Blanchard expressed the belief that the Roseau Enhancement Project which the government started a few years ago, has definitely been touching the lives of every Dominican. The minister reminded business owners and residents of Roseau who will be inconvenienced by the works that will be carried out, that this project will transform their living and business standards, “so you should embrace it, notwithstanding the sacrifices that you may be called to make.”

Blanchard also pointed out that a safe and more attractive city will mean more patronage by residents and visitors coupled with increased business opportunities for our people.

Where? Which one? Did I miss it? “Blanchard expressed the belief that the Roseau Enhancement Project which the government started a few years ago, has definitely been touching the lives of every Dominican.”
Started where? When? Where is it? Roseau is or has been enhanced?

Why wasnt a public tender put out so that regional and local contracting firms can bid and submit proposals? why did you keep and hide these national projects for your chinese and montreal management friends? Why because they are all part of the scam. And nobody not making money unless the politician in charge making money too.

Ms. Blanchard claims that the Roseau Enhancement Project, which it would appear the government started a few years ago, has definitely been touching the lives of every Dominican.

Yes, because you walk with your eyes closed: The River Promenade, the stadium, the river bank road, the St. Aroment – Bath Estate link road, ongoing works at Peebles Park, enhanced sidewalk on Kennedy Avenue, River bank parking, China Friendship Bridge, Roseau River walls, EC Loblack Bridge, etc. If you remove those dark blue sunglasses, you will see these and how they “touch” lives. Heck, you will be grateful that they have so enhanced your life.

When I shop in Roseau, my concern is not about the surrounding infrastructure, but on keeping my eyes glued to what passes as pavements, so as to make sure I don’t fall down a drain or pothole and break a leg.
