Managing Director of A.C. Shillingford & Co. Ltd Julius Timothy is now undergoing medical attention in the neighboring island of Trinidad and Tobago after having a serious heart attack.
Timothy, who was recovering from eye surgery, complained of feeling ill earlier this month and was brought to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH), where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
A family member of the former politician verified to Dominica News Online (DNO) earlier today that his status has not changed since he was flown out on April 11.
This isn’t his first run-in with health issues. The businessman who was Dominica’s then-Health Minister suffered a stroke in May 2013 and was later airlifted to Martinique by air ambulance for medical treatment.

No body dies in America for want of medical attention. In America if someone is ill, and they go to a hospital, any hospital County General belonging to and run by the government, or a private hospital, they cannot even ask the patient about money prior to treating them!

Someone from Dominica was in anther state, had an emergency, the person called me explained their situation: I gave the person the address of a hospital; the person went there, and received treatment.
The person was not a resident yet, however they were treated, what followed is that they kept billing, and I doh saying noffin else.

Qualify medical specialist, whose practice specialize in certain illnesses in addition to general practitioners. There are medical tools that the specialists requires

A state of the art Chinese hospital they told us but people have to be flown out for everything because the State of the art hospital has nothing. So for a stroke people have to be flown out, head injury people have to be flown, kidney transplants people have to be flown out. Blood clots have to be flown out. In fact if you are coming from Portsmouth or the north we don’t even have a hospital that can stabilize patients before they are sent to the the Chinese hospital and and such a long drive to the hospital that at times people have to just wait for the death announcement.
But I remember the words of PM Skerrit during the 2019 election after 16 years as pM :ladies and gentlemen I have health insurance and if my children are sick I can fly them out. But what about you? Believe you me LABORITES applauded him and gave him 5 more years with more seats.
Almost 5 years later, still no insurance, hospital has no medicine not even to treat an infection in a child. But so we like it

There should be a task force set up to identify the greatest and most urgent needs of this hospital. There are many people who are willing to contribute to the improvement of the hospital. The Dominican diaspora in the USA have many groups in New York, Orlando ,Miami Canada and other part who would be willing to contribute monetarily. In Dominica, some boast about our ‘state of the art’ hospital. A hospital is not only a beautiful building. It is also comprised of equipment and staff.
The frequency in which Dominicans have to seek medical service overseas clearly shows that local healthcare system is egregiously inadequate.
Time is of the essence in sudden illness such as heart attacks and strokes. The sooner you get medical attention the greater your chances of survival. Unfortunately, many lives have been lost in Dominica because of the pathetic health service.
