Hello and good afternoon my people. Well I reside in Brooklyn,NYC and this schedule is of no use to us in New York. Liat flies only on Sunday’s from St Thomas and Silver Airways usually cancelled their flights from Puerto Rico.
Why can’t Liat merge with Caribbean Airlines and in that way we will have dependable service in the Caribbean. All they have to do is put a twenty dollar surcharge on tickets for a number of years and used that money to pay the former employees their back wages. Once Caribbean Airlines take over that would removed the different Goverments as owners of Liat so they can streamline the operation and make it profitable. Based on what’s in the article we still can’t get to Dominica the same day. Better yet why can’t our Government lease six planes and tell our citizens to come to Antigua from America or Europe then we will get you to Dominica the Same day three times a week, Monday’s,Wednesday’s and Saturdays.

Agree with you Steve. If you look at the location of the supposed new airport you will find that the runway almost abuts with the existing airport at Meviile Hall, the runway is not much longer and the alignment more subject to crosswinds. Yes you could make an approach both to the north and south but it could accommodate mid size jets, such as a 737 or private intercontinental jets at best. And what will happen to the existing DOM airport? Housing development? Ploughed up for agriculture, a military base for China perhaps or will it just be abandoned?
I know that land for the proposed new airport and it more suitable for an exclusive 18 hole links golf course with bunkers and water traps. The airport thing could just be a camouflage story. Skerrit may be pulling the polyester over our face you know.

Why travel to New York via Trinidad. Makes no sense to me unless Colin Piper wants to promote Caribbean airways. Why not travel via St.Maarten and Winair for example. The direct flight I understand is only one hour and St. Maarten better for connecting with N. America. I agree though, it is still a pain in the backside to connect Internationally direct with Dominica, and an expensive pain at that.

How many airlines are servicing Dominica there seems to be one every month.

I know few agree with me, but I’ve said all along that what we need is not a billion dollar airport when we cannot even reliably fill three nonstop flights per week from Miami. What we need is a better schedule of shorter flights like these so that tourists and other visitors can come and go without having to spend the night somewhere in transit.

That said, since we’re building the airport anyway, I’ll be delighted if it proves me utterly wrong.

I agree. I have no issues connecting as long as the connection is not too long (2 – 3 hours) and I don’t have to over-night along the way. And this is coming from a person who travels a lot for business. Having said that I will chose a direct flight over a connecting flight even if it cost me a few extra dollars. For me taking a connecting flight is not a deal breaker.
The thing is, most of the people who are clamouring for the airport travel at best once a year or every few years.
