ALIVE WORD: If we forget God – Part 1

The Richardsons

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.”

–Psalm 33:12

If there ever was a time that we as a territory, as a people, as a church, need to call on the name of the Lord, it is now. We need God in our nation; we need God in our communities; we need God in our churches; we need God in our government; we need God in our families; we need God in our lives.

We’re living in perilous times, and time does not allow for us to make the mistake of forgetting God. No matter who you are or where you live, if there was ever a time that your nation, your people, and you need God, it’s now.

Many call on God a lot during times of trouble but fail to serve and acknowledge God when the storm is past and all seem to be well.  There is so much going on in our land.  Some things are visible and some hidden.  But nothing is hidden from God.  For some often forget that when men do not see God sees all things and He keeps good records.  Some people have become fearful while others are hopeless.  Our only hope and help is in the name of the Lord.

People, we cannot afford to forget God.  The God who has brought the Virgin Islands through many rough and serious times.  If ever a time we need to really repent and get on our faces before the Lord it is now.

The alarm is being sounded to the four corners of the earth. It’s a call to repentance and earnest prayer. A call for the nations of the world and the people of the world to turn their hearts to God. A call for the church of the living God—the body of Christ—to stop getting ready and to be ready. “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 24:44).

We cannot afford to forget God. Only the mercies of God have brought so many of the nations of the world through dark and trying times. Yet, many nations have forsaken God. Many nations have attributed their success and prosperity to man or to other gods. They’re going their way and doing their own thing, only crying to God when they’re in trouble.

Yet God is still merciful, and He causes the rain to fall on the just and unjust alike. It is because of the prayers of the righteous in some nations that the judgment of God is not manifested in more dramatic ways. Yet, when disaster strikes a nation, the hearts of many are turned to God and the hearts of others are turned away from God.

Many ask how God could allow it. They fail to see the sins of the nation and the way people have forgotten God and turned aside to follow other gods. They don’t see that as Christians we often fail to humble ourselves and pray, to be spiritually alert, and to war in the Spirit to abort the plans of the enemy.

To ask God’s mercy as Abraham did on behalf of his people. God is so merciful that He always sends warning before judgment.

He tells us to warn the wicked. Ezekiel 33:7-9 says, ” So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.”

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance” (Psalm 33:12). When a nation decides to put God out of the picture or put other gods in charge, a curse comes upon that nation.

The opposite of being blessed is being cursed. For if God is not in charge, then the devil is. If we take God out, then we’re opening up the door for the devil to come in and reap havoc in the nation, in the people, in the families, in the communities. If God is not God of a nation, the people cannot live in the peace that God has ordained for them. Voodoo is now recognized as a religion in some nations, and homosexual priests are being ordained while some pastors and priests are now marrying homosexuals.

In other nations there are demonic assignments out to take God out of just about everything. “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20). People, we cannot afford to forget God, for if we do, the wrath of God will come upon us.

Christians, we must take a stand for Jesus Christ. You may be saying to yourself that there is so much evil in your nation you do not know where to begin. Begin by praying.

Pray for those who are in authority. “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour” (1 Timothy 2:1-3). God says that we should pray for those in authority.

Somehow as Christians we sometimes think we should pray only if we like those who are in authority or if we think that who is in authority should be there. Scripture doesn’t say that. It says to pray for them. Whether your political party is in or not, God says to pray. Whether you like your church leaders or not, God says to pray. Whether you like your boss or not, God says to pray.

We often forget the words of Isaiah 9:6: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” The government is on the shoulder of the Lord, and Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. The more negative words we speak against those in authority, the more we’re contributing to their making wrong decisions and to our own lack of peace. We need to talk less and pray more.  (continued in next issue)

Why is it that the beliefs and concepts of God held by some people, as to how God operates and what he does based and shaped by their religious ideology and dogma think that what they have said and written in a column of words is the absolute truth of what God is, and what is needed to please God and get favor from him and all will be right. The question I would like to ask, which is more important to us, is it the ideal of God that we must endeavor to approach or the expression of that ideal in the form of words. To many times we seek the latter, it is the easy way out, it is easy to say something rather than to do it.

We need to get away from a prescribe faith or religion, one that has been prepared by institutions accepting God through their teachings, theology and concepts and acceptance. It is not so much calling on God but listening to God, we all think that God should listen to us, but it is the opposite we should listen to God. that is why we got one mouth and two ears, we need to talk less and listen more, it is said silence is the most powerful scream, so let us remember it is not only words that count as some of us would like to think.

I always remember the Words of God in Ezekiel 33, when I hear people snorting against those who speak and teach the Word of God.

Satan has blocked our minds with so much of nothingness that it is almost impossible for us to discern the thing that is good for us. But we are so quick to accept everything that is bad, for that is the nature of our human minds.

It is so true that people in all walks of life are forgetting God’s mercy and compassion of Love, as they go about taking the honors or giving them to another human being for their success in life.

Earlier this year, many people decided to blame God, for the disaster of Haiti. Why would a God of Love allow these kinds of disasters to happen they protested. But they hypocritically hit on one or two Christian leaders who openly spoke about the outcome of those who continue to ignore God as they go about in their life of worldliness and sinfulness.

However, there was one man who asked a very good question, as he said: How do we know how many times God prevented this thing from happening to Haiti? Yes, it is true that God sends us many warnings that we ignore. And there comes a time that He has to decide, I am going to allow it to happen to you, so you will know that I am in control.

Jesus told His disciples that His second coming will be like in the days of Noah. When God called on Noah to build and ark, the people ignored the warning of God, as Jesus said: they continued to marry and give their sons and daughters in marriage. They were eating and drinking and having a ball of the feasts until the flood came and took them all away. Only eight human beings survived

But still, we ignore the Word of God, as we live our lives, forgetting that God remains in control forever and ever.
