I was moved to pen this commentary after having read another dated December 21, 2020, here on DNO. I was appalled at the contents of that commentary, and I am flabbergasted that such matters had never been dealt with prior to or since that article appeared. ‘Informed Patient’ seemed to have conducted thorough research, and I accept the information presented as credible. I, too, have done my investigations and stand firm by what I write.
That a doctor should arbitrarily call him/herself a specialist without the requisite training, is deplorable, shameful, and disgraceful. That these doctors are extracting large sums of money from their poor fellow Dominicans reeks of dishonesty, and unethical and unprofessional behavior. That these doctors were registered as General Practitioners but are practicing as Diabetes SPECIALIST, Asthma SPECIALIST, etc. means that the Medical Board appointed by the Minister of Health is useless and derelict in its duty not to have disciplined these doctors and suspended their registration. One is reminded of the days of Dr. Finger about whom nothing was done, no investigation conducted by the Board.
Doctors have traditionally been respected as a sort of privileged class; they were almost worshipped and deserved to be. I am only old enough to remember the Dr. D.O.N. McIntyres, the Dr. Bernard Sorhaindos, the Dr. Phillip Griffins, the Dr. E.I. Wattys of the Dominican medical landscape. Most of the current-day ones who have followed would find it difficult to fit in their shoes.
A doctor who has a pharmacy at his office and simply sells patients drugs without a diagnosis should not only have his registration suspended but revoked.
Medical Board, where in Heaven’s name are you??!! They gave you a job to do, so get up off your rear ends and do it!!!! Otherwise you are simply USELESS!! The function of the Medical Board is not simply to register doctors. The entire Medical Ordinance cannot be only about this. Do your duties on behalf of the people!

What can I tell you my friend….DR. Roosevelt Skerrit is in CHARGE!!!!
” I RUN THINGS”
While the citizens are becoming more powerless daily.
Medical Observer, we commend you strongly. We welcome and appreciate your involvement in this sensitive medical matter.
I was shocked and saddened and be taken aback from what I read from Bwa Banday. Thank you Sir for observation and content of the issues before us that appears to be unprofessional. Where on earth is the Minister of Health, the Chief Medical Officer and in others in the Medical Profession. We desperately need immediate attention and intervention into this matter. Also, where the Hell is his Immature visionless Incompetent Skerrit who suppose to be updated on such delicate matters. We don’t need our hard working farmers, families and others affected by this worrying medical ,(, specifically those involved) incompetent Questionable medical practicing professionals. Our people need the highest level of cure and medical be attention on this matter where necessary. We applaud our Honourable Medical Practitioners undertake their tasked wholesomely and cautiously.Beaware…
Dominica is a unique place. Once you are politically well connected you can get or do anything that you like. Look at the caliber of most of the people who are now Ministers of government.
Health is wealth. The medical profession should be closely monitored. This profession deals with life and death. The lax performance of the Medical Board clearly indicates how much premium the present Skerrit led administration puts on the lives of Dominicans.
In a well governed country with a caring cabinet of ministers, the life of every citizens is considered to be sacred and is treated as such. In Dominica, the opposite prevails.
Unfortunately, today’s Dominica under the ‘watchful’ eye of Skerrit, is a free for all as long as they sympathetic to the regime. The corruption is going to kill DA.
10000000000% Correct! Whomever wrote this article deserves to be commended. The Medical Board is useless and gives those that are rubber stamped by El Supremo a pass. I know of one Dcan doctor working in Anguilla who actually holds two specialization from Cuba but was denied a job in Dca because she does not partake in the DLP BS while those with no specializations are working and benefiting as specialists. Go figure. SMMFH!
