One of my favourite songs of the Christmas season which many others see as the shopping and ‘sewo’ prelude to carnival season is titled O Come, O Come Emmanuel. The Bible tells us that Emmanuel means ‘God with us,’ well perhaps that Christmas morning Glenworth O. N Emmanuel (GON) may have had his doubts. It would not surprise me if GON and his wife would feel at the time that the devil had prevailed for indeed they were delivered a searingly raw deal in this supposedly God fearing island.
The story of Christmas morning 2010 when in the early hours GON was cruelly awakened by the harsh sound of an explosion which proved to be a firebomb going off under his bedroom still continues. Needless to say this very senior citizen attorney at law ran out of his house in terror with his very senior citizen wife Greta in full flight. They might have thought then it must be a drone that had targeted their home just like Obama does with the Al Qaeda terrorist. But it was not a drone; it was a locally made gasoline bomb seemingly intended together with the gasoline in the tank of his car to do damage to the couple bodily harm even death. We are mainly a peaceful people and tossing or placing bombs in other people’s homes for murderous purposes is not on our agenda except for at least one person who came forward to boldly declare like a restless warrior as I would put it in my words,” “ I am he the Christmas bomber.” So case solved right? Wrong. Case noh even start.
When Denny Shillingford hit the spotlight with his open and very detailed confession on a radio station calling out names and titles black is white of individuals who chanced to be well known and closely associated with the government we the people listened in stunned realization that our age of innocence had now become past tense. The Denny confession told us that we now had a mafia-like operation in our midst where if you offend so and so your blood will be boiled and shades of the Papa and Baby Docs of Haiti suddenly came over us. We could have a new song, “Like weeds by the water we can easily be removed.” However we took comfort in our police system which had assured us that the matter would be solved quickly and efficiently and that forensic this was done and forensic that would be done and it would all be well done with maximum transparency. But our police system failed us and indeed everything became undone.
Firstly we heard that Denny’s confession was not a real confession and then that it must have been more than 80 or so year old GON himself who woke up early Christmas morning then went outside in his pajamas and firebombed his bleeping uninsured house with his wife inside then went back up to his bedroom and then ran outside with his wife as in a scripted movie. The too many “thens” in that scenario spoiled any sanity left in the cuckoo’s nest. We were also assured that one of the persons of interest who was at the time in the USA would return to clear his name as soon as he was able to renew his US Passport but that would be a lengthy wait period. A quick look at the New York Passport Agency website disses down the long wait story and in fact the renewal can be done in time for travel in 14 days and even in 24 hours for a $60.00 fee if a ticket itinerary can be produced to the agency. I would think that this matter was of great urgency and the clearing of one’s name in an attempted murder case as of paramount importance but months passed and no person of interest appeared. This ‘seek him there and seek him over there’ even became the topic of calypsoes. Then in comes another Director of Prosecutions (DPP) acting for the real one who was on pre-retirement leave and right on cue an ultimatum is delivered from his office and the person of interest like magic appears in a hurry on our soil. The person of interest also holding a US passport is arrested and charged with arson and denied bail by Magistrate Evalina Baptiste and then granted bail a short time after when the DPP fails to appear at the further hearing. So if you think all this sounds like a Val Cuffy and Alex Bruno calypso stage joke then you would be right to laugh if this were not so serious a matter which we the people have not taken seriously enough.
But what has happened since the initial ‘roar’ died? Well ask the police. If the police officers aspire to serve the people they must not be guided by personal or political interest because that is not the way to gain the respect of the people. Professional police have the responsibility to ensure that people they serve live together in peace and unity mindful of what Peter Tosh sang, ‘How can there be peace if there is no equal rights and justice.’ Therefore the key word for the police force is professionalism. We the people expect this matter to be solved in 2014 and in that election countdown year to be thoroughly debated. Some believe that this matter will never be solved unless the government changes if so then the responsibility for solving the case rests squarely on we the people and the decisions we make in this coming General Elections
I have not given much open attention to it in this space hoping that the professional police would step up to be counted but it is now three years past and that has seemingly not happened. If there is no significant movement in 2014 then we the people can only come to one conclusion already suspected by so many that the matter of the fire- bombing is no longer about justice for GON Emmanuel and his wife Greta but about covering up a crime. If that is the case then the day will be one of triumph for the power and greed which fuels corruption and for this cause the whole fire- bombing thing is going nowhere fast, going, and going, going, gone.

Be scared,be very scared
Lets always take it to the lord in prayer because we always reap what we sow, when the investigators were getting closer to the truth they were removed from the case, it’s a government and lawyers affair so do we really think that they are willing to solve it??
Keep on writing on our behalf Denis. Happy new year.
i don’t see why all the blame and name calling on dennis…..its a simple simple case there is a motive, a victim, evidence, a criminal who comfessed committed the crime, a seko who is an accessory to the crime, and other high level governmental ministers and lawyer..
allu expect that case to call?… THEY WAITING FOR DE MAN TO DIE, SO LEAVE DENNIS ALONE…
as for de police, if he confiscate drug dealers man house, money and car…anything is possible.
Does anyone possess a copy of Arandall Thomas’ poem about the GON Fire – I would like to read it and I hope this poem remain in the archives of our political affairs even though our groveling historians would not agree.
I really wish this guy would remove his pic from his columns… I’m sorry but usually try to scroll right past it but I feel like something needs to be said… #ChangeThePic #ItIsScary
So when you log on to DNO,what do you do? Look at pictures? Well my friend it is so apparent why the country is in this quagmire. Do you know that people like you elected Skerrit as the PM of dominica because his picture once looked good? This is a backward mentality that you should be ashamed to even mention. YOU SOUND LIKE AN ILLITERATE.
YES and it is people like YOU who will continue to keep UWP in the opposition because of your tendency to alienate voters AND your continued quickness to bestow the ‘illiterate’ title to any and everyone who you THINK voted for Skerrit.
P.S. For your information I am not qualified to vote in Dominica’s elections…
well write ur article and put your pretty face, if only you could write. stop looking at pic and read
ok, I promise you that I will not look at anymore pics on here. I will try to block all pics off my screen. **confused face**
As an ex-police officer and investigator I have seen a lot, no wonder this situation in my mind may be more complicated and less political as the political pundits want it to be. Mr. George though he has never served in the capacity of an investigator may know of several incidents where people have confessed to crime that they didn’t do. I remember this shooting of a security guard at the Canfield Gas Station. Mr. Alfred can share some light on that. One guy surrendered himself and gave a full confession of the crime. Giving details he heard from the news and people, to build a picture that the police would believe. The police though they weren’t convinced that he was the perpetrator charged him and he was remanded in custody at the Stock Farm State Prison. A year or two later if not more, the two perpetrators one being an ex-police officer were arrested, charged and convicted. Now serving time in prison. The young man who was a “Wanabe” or one could say “mental” was released.
This situation wasn’t engulfed in all these political conspiracies and as such the police remained focus thus the result. In the case of GON, the political pundits and “wanabe” politicians have politicize the situation, which I believe have distracted the police hence the investigations. In our attempt to seek what we call justice for GON, we have done nothing more than foster injustice for him and his family. We made up stories, suspects, witnesses and evidence thereby misleading the investigators and the investigation. We have created an atmosphere where it is very difficult in the absent of forensic evidence linking one to the crime scene, to successfully complete an investigation and convict the perpetrator. In effect, we have brought about Injustice to GON and his family as we seek to promote and use his unfortunate situation for our benefit or that of another. The question now is, who is to be blamed? I say, we the masses are to be blame for treating this case as we have done to none other.
Mirage your points seem very rationale and if your claims are true then what you say is based on professional experience. I am curious though how long though have you been retired or been away from the force?
That’s the important because the stories that I hear from officers and those involved in the legal system now paint a completely different picture. There is a much bigger problem here than what you described in your comments. But let’s put aside opinion for a second and look at the facts. Emmanuel’s former partner was brought up on over 40 charges a warrant was issued and then dismissed due to the efforts of his supporters in Government. That is virtually unheard of maybe for a few charges but over 40! That is obviously blatant corruption at work not to mention obstruction of justice. THAT is why this whole thing is so fishy…no reasonable law abiding person should just dismiss that regardless of their party affiliation. We should all be calling for justice to be done and due process to take place. At this rate the case against GON’s former partner will never see light and he will never see justice as the victim of this fire bombing incident. and YES people have rightly begun to link those incidents and suspect his former partner of gross wrong doing. I do support your call for fair trial as we should not simply jump to conclusions given all the circumstantial evidence on display in the court of public opinion. However, there is obviously something terribly wrong and unjust about this.
As a former police officer I would really expect more from you. We should call for justice before we even discuss the political side and who’s getting political mileage out of this. This may not be your intention but your comments paint you as more of a government apologist than a fair and impartial observer seeking justice for all.
I do expect such a reaction, after all, I was just pointing out my opinion based on my experience. Your comments are based on what he said and she said. If you were to look at the actual file in question your mind may change, I am just saying. And there you go again linking my opinion to being a supporter of the Govt. I supported a family member who contested the election for the UWP. I voted UWP in the last election. Again you are so wrong so why I’m I not suprised that you are wrong with your conspiracy theories. I guess as long as one doesn’t see things as people like you do, that makes me against the UWP or suporter of the Govt. I am a true Dominican who sees when we are doing things that hurt our country not withsatnding our political affiliation.
Indeed someone can, and people on many occasions have confessed to crimes they did not commit, nevertheless, that is not the case, nor trend in Dominica, nor the rest of the Caribbean for that matter.
In Europe, and North America, that is very common, however, the people who indulges in that sort of behavior, are people who are mentally ill, regulars of some mental asylum; we are aware of that type of behavior; however, that is not unique to Dominica, or the Caribbean.
If you was an investigator, and worked especially in Dominica, there is no wonder why there are so many unsolved murders on the island; Mr. great investigator: my nephew was murdered in Wesley, someone turned himself in to the police, and admitted that he killed my nephew.
The police rather than arrest and interrogate the confessed murderer; they ignored the information he gave to the police, and concluded the culprit was incompetent, and unreliable, therefore he could not have committed the murder, of my murdered my nephew!
I must inform you sir; X-police, great investigator, days, less than one week after the police let the murderer walk, the confessed murderer was found dead, murdered; his throat slashed in the same fashion as that of my nephew. Even you a no class investigator will agree that the fact the confessed murderer was also murdered in the same way; the same method that was used to murder my nephew was used on him is an indication that whatever evidence he gave to the police in regards to my nephew was the truth.
In any event his murder proved that if he was not the culprit who used the weapon which murdered my nephew, he apparently knew the murderer, and so he had to be silent in order to protect the real killer.
There is something called deductive reasoning man; meaning: relating to or; provable by deduction, or employing deduction in reasoning, the Dominica police does not have any concept of how to use deductive reasoning. It is ironic that in a village as small as Wesley, our brilliant investigators, and detectives are unable to solve a murder, rather than utilizing the evidence they obtained, the police concentrated on our cousin Vaughn Dodds (Dods), who was locked up in jail, and blame him for the murder of my nephew; to crown the crap, they the worthless police arrested another nephew of mine, brother to the murdered, claiming he was responsible for the murder of the confessed murderer, eventually they let him go.
He who feels the cap that is going on in Dominica knows it you see! Gong Emanuel feels it just as I am still feeling it, so you can continue to pipe your senseless crap.
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Francisco, did you really read what I wrote? I don’t think you did or you are just bias and writing as one wrote, for a commedy show. I spoke of a real incident in DA yet you are saying that these things don’t happen in DA. DA like many countries have unsolved murders. Check with the Scotlandyards and Lawenforcement in USA and Canada and get their murder rate against those unsolved. You will find that they are higher than that of DA. Just read what I wrote and educate yourself.
Again well reasoned response. Yet anyone is free to make claims they are not obligated to prove when speaking under anonymity as we are. I will take your comments at face value though and apologize; it was not my intention to label and dismiss you as a biased government supporter (You are free to support anyone you wish) I was only pointing out that your initial comments could be construed that way. I had hoped you would clarify and that much I appreciate. I won’t berate you as I have seen done by another contributor you are obviously an intelligent person, but I do have a few points to contend.
You haven’t indicated how long you have been out of the service which would help to determine your closeness and access to this case(of course I respect your right to withhold any identifying information). However, You mentioned if I had seen the file I would change my mind which suggests you had access to the files or handled them in some way. In anycase you are suggesting you have access to information and experience I don’t: ok fair enough.
While I did express my view, my comment was not solely based on opinion or “he said she said” as I mentioned the facts of the 42 charges brought against Emanuel’s former partner and alleged theft of 6 million which is a matter of public record. What insight can you provide on that case considering your knowledge and experience as an officer?
Yes it is technically a separate case, but not enough mention is made of the facts of that case and the large number of fraud related charges brought against Mr. Emmanuel’s former partner where the charges were blocked from being read, and a properly issued warrant was completely ignored – a highly irregular occurrence that screams corruption. In addition we can ask how is it related to the current fire-bombing case. Certainly you can see how that miscarriage of justice was the trigger for this unfortunate saga. The way the charges were handled and then dismissed the blatant political interference and subsequent political propaganda (via govt radio programs for e.g) leading to this current situation which puts the justice system in Dominica in a very bad light (whatever the true cause) It is clear justice is not being done. The authorities can do much better when it comes to our justice system and not just for Mr. Emmanuel.
In reference to your comment on the Dominican public’s attempt to seek justice, remember the public is just that; the public. We as a society should do better but the ones directly responsible are the police, the government and those officials who run the justice system. The public’s responsibility is to hold these groups accountable, albeit as you might agree, in a thoughtful and mature way that does not distract from the process.
Magwa Sa, I sure think that we can reasonable discus these issues though we may not agree on certain things but be respectful to each other. My point was merely to show that when the people, whether it be the Govt. or opposition get involved in such cases they do more to hurt the case than to progress it. The police is the one charged with the responsibility for investigating these cases and they are they ones that should be held accountable and expected to do a professional job. In reference to this matter I have some insight on the investigations and one thing that I must say is that the people interference have affected its progress. Evidence is crucial and I believe, if the police had the evidence to establish a prema faci case and evidence that could support a possible conviction in court the perpetrators would be arrested and charged. The fact is the evidence is weak. Now, I am not saying that those implicated aren’t guilty or guilty. I’m just saying that though there may be some circumstantial evidence, in the absence of real or direct evidence the police are unable to prefer charges against anyone at this time (similar to the police officer house who got fire bomb). The many conspiracy theories that are out there are just that, stories, with no evidence. Now we the people believe these stories and as such we want to cast blame on others. The court works with evidence and not conspiracy theories.
As it relates to GON’s associate who had several charges brought against him one can reasonably look in his direction. One can say he had motive, but motive isn’t enough here to establish a case against him. What happened to the charges brought against him and the warrant were dealt with within the courts through legal arguments. The police didn’t execute the warrant because I’m sure they were aware of the legal issues involved. It was a decision the police would have to make from a higher-ranking official. Mr. George should be able to explain issues as such.
@true that, I assume you are “Mirage”. Before making my comment I just want to wish a Blessed and Happy New Year to you and yours.
Being a creature of logic myself, I find your comments compelling yet unable to dissuade me from the powerful facts of the situation.
You speak of the “interference” of the people as having a greater bearing on the case then that of the interference of the political masters. At this point I think we both know how much the executive seeks to interfere with the judiciary and legal process for their own gain. There is no escaping that this level of manipulation is the essence of corruption. With your technical knowledge of these matters you must see just how vulnerable our system is to corrupt practice.
While you do appear to have a sense of honor and professionalism, and I must credit your for that, one’s interpretation of these ideals should never trump the pursuit of justice and truth. You seem to be incapable of criticizing the police or government directly perhaps out of some sense of professional respect or loyalty. I find it interesting that you write under a pseudonym and yet still choose to limit your comments in that way. It is not the mere absence of evidence that prevents these cases from completing the due process that leads to trial. Of greater significance is the withholding, tampering, procedural ignorance, mismanagement and direct political interference of evidence. I don’t wish to blanket all officers unfairly there are things that the force does very well in general but there are areas where they are severely lacking as well. One of those things is the way evidence is handled and secured…
Again let’s take a look outside of our own views for a moment and attempt to meet on the common ground that is provided by the examination of the facts.
In the case of the charges not being read and the warrant not being acted on, you claim on the one hand that the commissioner was aware of the full legal considerations in choosing to ignore the warrant yet how justifiable is it really to outright ignore a warrant issued by the chief magistrate? Putting political and personal opinions aside the officers are obligated to act under the law, carry out the warrant and then seek redress through the legal system or allow the warrant to be challenged legitimately by the concerned parties. The police cannot simply make the decision to ignore a properly issued warrant. What if it was a known drug dealer or murderer with enough clout to force a similar situation?…wrong is wrong anywhere. If the warrant was issued improperly the courts must decide the matter. The fact that the matter is now still before the courts is also not justification for the police ignoring the duty they have sworn to uphold. We cannot just “do what we want” and then turn around and ask others to follow the rules that is hypocrisy and it is also the difference between a lawful and lawless country –which is what we are becoming.
In the case of Emmanuel’s former partner this shows that one’s political affiliation and association is stronger than the law or justice in this country. Justice in this country depends on who does what and not what is done. Had Emmanuel’s former partner been a different lawyer without close ties to the prime minister we would have likely seen an entirely different outcome. For those that would say that the matter was not carried further because the accused was a lawyer then you must recognize that Emmanuel is a former magistrate and even longer serving lawyer than his partner.
“Mirage” or “true dat” or whatever name you might be using, I’m not asking you to trust me based on my qualifications or experience I don’t really know you and you don’t know me. I am asking you and anyone reading this story and these comments to look at the facts to always seek truth and justice. Obviously I mean not just for Emmanuel but in every instance. After all, if the police can just choose to ignore a properly issued warrant and such a serious matter can languish in our courts without hope of seeing the light of day then none of us are safe under our current justice system. Then again if we were the well-connected perpetrators rather than the victims I suppose we would have much to be thankful for…and maybe that’s exactly how we like it….
Seko and Tony, will have their day,and all who were involved, the teacher who bailed out Seko they all shall have their day with the almighty.Seko your will be a long suffering, you cant be having a good night sleep.
The tired soldiers like Fast N Furious, Jude Nicholas are repeating what they heard from the butchers on Kairi. What is funny is that those butchers on Kairi throw those wild berries out there and yard fowls keep scratching but the butchers themselves don’t believe in the wild berries and are not repeating the lies themselves. So people like Jude Nicholas and Fas N Furious are doing the parroting.
Now it is three years since Tony Astaphan told us that they will reveal their truth and so far all we heard from them is different accusations – they said that it was Brian cause Brian had a band Aid on his hand; they said is UWP people; they said the fire was self inflicted.
The labor party Ton Ton Makout claim to have bombshells for everybody and everything yet their bombshells are in-detonable. My god if you have bombshell or your truth what are you Ton Ton Makouts waiting for.
It is not about reveling a bombshell from Ton Ton Makouts. Why can’t you wait for the case to be called and hear the evidence.Yes, there was a crime committed and who ever did this should be punished. What I do not understand, why is Glenworth O. N Emmanuel being used as an Icon for justice, is it because it makes good political mileage. There are many other people who have suffered worst injustice than Glenworth O. N Emmanuel. One that comes to mind is Phillip Timothy shot dead on May 29 1979 outside Government Headquarters after The Dominica Defense Force opened fire on protestors calling for the removal of Patrick John then Prime Minister who attempted to pass two controversial Bills restricting freedom of The press. To this day one knows who gave the orders to The Defense Force.
I find it very hypocritical of Dennis writing this commentary making Glenworth O. N Emmanuel some kind of icon for justice.Dennis promised us a book about the The May 29 1979 crisis and yes we are still waiting.
Gary, the Emanuel situation is different, and in a different time!
Who would you expect to give the orders to shoot to kill, it could have come from John himself, or the head or the some commander of the Defense Force though not in the order I suggest.
Gary there comes a time when a man has to stand for something especially if that something is right. You fail to acknowledge the crime perpetrated. Emanuel is a victim of a vicious crime, nobody should be talking about political mileage; the nation should be concerned because anybody who resides in Dominica could be subjected to the same threat.
If the government allows this crime to go unpunished; you can anticipate the worst is yet to come; no longer will anyone be safe in our country, bullet proof cars, and SUV’s will not be enough to protect the (kings; and gods) of the nation never mind the ordinary citizens of the country.
Do not try to dehumanize Gong; what happen to him can happen to anyone in Dominica tonight; since the attempt on Emanuel’s life, we saw a similar event where someone perpetrated the same act on the office of the son of the late Rosie Douglas the young attorney in Roseau.
The bottom line is this; if someone wants to destroy you, me or anybody else in Dominica, they will find a way to eliminate us; therefor in order to discourage such criminal behavior, the culprits in the Emanuel saga must be brought to justice; they must be punished to the full extent of the law, and given the maximum sentence for the crime they committed against a citizen of the country.
Emanuel, or no Emanuel, a crime is committed, and it should not go unpunished; I could care less who is involved, let the chips fall where they may; too often criminals in our country are placed on pedestals, and treated as if they are above the law. Sad to say even Gong displayed that sort of behavior, in the early stages of the investigation.
The time he took to write notes and letters to the police, he should rise from his butt, and go to the police prescient (station) and corporate with the police, rather than using telephone, and writing some dumb letter; but you see that is the Dominica mentality; I am a big man therefore I should not be subjected to the rules as everyone else.
I suppose as a retired magistrate he regarded himself as someone who should be offered provincial treatment, well it is time that Dominican recognized that people are nothing more than people, status means nothing in such cases, with that said, I conclude the man deserves some justice.
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Frenz, the active soldier, are you not just there too repeating what you hear from your Novice, criminal Leader on Q95? I’m sure you know that your Tyrant Leader went to Cuba.Ask him what was his mission. Those BUTCHERS he plotted with in Cuba are the ones you should worry about because the only means he can get into power is by the BARREL of a gun.
Keep the story alive, Dennis. Don’t let it die. Keep shoving it in the faces of the guilty. Every time you remind them, I bet they go like this “Again!” and the guilt comes all flooding back. If the criminals believe that this heinous and horrendous crime has been swept under the carpet of Dominica’s public court, then they should think again. We want justice for the very elderly couple.
Oh, Denis, What has happened to the investigations into the firebombing of the young police officer? He was at his home with his girlfrined and a baby. Why haven’t those who have called for a thorough investigation into the GON Fire (and rightly so) taken up the case of the young officer insimilar fashion as they have championed the “follow case”? Isn’t that act a similarly heinous act?
Supt. George should now ask his political colleagues where they stand on the fire bombing of his son’s house and why haven’t they spoken out more loudly and consistently on the matter. Perhaps he can share with the public the “instructions” (the police) received to “kill” the GON Fire investigations. And he can tell the public too why hasn’t the investigations into the fire bombing of his son’s house not seen the light of the day. Is it on account of a political instruction. Officer stand and be counted now. is the attempt on GON Emmanuel’s life more significant than that of his son. Then Denis can write and inform us about the truth.
I agree. Mr. George should now educate his political partners on the investigations into the GON matter. I think that as long as honesty prevails their may be a different slant on the discussion. Come on Mr. George lets have it.
Well Dennis has written on Emmanuel why don’t you write about injustice done to George. What is wrong with people like
What I want to know is whether Seko/Sicko is still in town and when is he going to have his day in court?
There’s a saying, justice delayed is justice denied; WHile this may have som reality to it, but in God’s eyes, this is not the case.
The persons who did this to GON, and the ones who know who did it and are covering up for them, one day their time will come. Want or not, they will have their day.
Just take note of some of the dictators and tyrants in our world; some who thought they wre infallible.
Chak koshon ni samdi ai.
I thought there was a flood and a few people lost all there belongings. I guess Dennis is not concerned about that
Good Luck Dennis, keep writing
Mr Emmanuel lost his house, his vehicle not by a storm but by people who are corrupt and associated with corrupt government officials.
If you would prefer talk about something else then write your own article but we want to get justice for the senior citizens who were attacked by a money launderer ,politician, a crime junky and a runaway to Brooklyn Granta Clause.
why don’t u write about the flood
Jude Nocholas December 29, 2013
“why is it that Dennis has all the details that Denny did not give in his own so called confession? A LOCALLY MADE GASOLINE BOMB??? HOW DID U KNOW THAT DENNIS?.The truth will eventually come out you know. The truth must come out.”
Jude I am puzzled with the question you ask Denis above; because from the morning of the fire, we all heard and read that the Emanuel’s house was firebomb.
Well then if we are talking about firebombing, and such incendiary devices (bombs) are not imported and sold in Dominica, it must be imagine that the devise was fabricated in Dominica. A firebomb is nothing more than igniting combustible material such as gasoline spontaneously.
When it inflammatory substance is put into a metal container even without a wig, all that is necessary is the spilling of the material when thrown, and hope for an arch, otherwise a lighted wig is used, thus when the bottle or can is thrown the wig set on fie will fall off, the liquid material diesel, or kerosene will spill, and there will be an explosion.
That is the quickest way to start a fire, using gasoline. You know the truth of the matter is already out, the reason why it is hard to accept is that the man who implicated himself, as the torch is a career criminal, and because the usually considers such criminals of not been credible that might be one of the obstacles in proceeding with the case.
I believe however, there is enough evidence to incriminate the lawyer involved, and the one who returned from the United States, and was arrested.
The evidence exist, we know shortly after the fire, someone was in a hurry to leave Dominica, we have evidence to substantiate the fact that on their way to the Melville Hall Airport, they were in so much a hurry the had an accident, one of the culprit got hurt in the incident, and sort treatment at the Marigot Hospital, and got it and moved on to the airport and escaped to America.
The police, the State, the police can prosecute these people you see, but then again it is customary for people to commit murdered in our country and get away with it.
When the incident first surface, I was skeptical, but knowing what I know now, I suspect someone in Dominica does not want the case to be heard; hoping the matter will become dormant!
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
So, how will the legal system/courts appoint or pick jurors from his peers that have not heard about this case? Hmmm. If you want justice then stop propagating this case some much. By now everyone in DA and in the diaspora have heard about this case. A journalist even took it upon himself to go interview one of the accused in prison and broadcasted that interview to the entire GP for political gerrymandering. It seems to me that this case has already been tried in the public courts and a verdict has been rendered. But in a court of law you have to select jurors for any criminal case or any case for that matter from citizens who have not heard about this case and can bring in a verdict free of political bias, prejudice and political bribery. So, for people to continually be posting, talking about it on the radio, writing poems about it and all the political mileage it gets, seems to me a lopsided endeavor only to satisfy the hunger of political lackeys. I contend that if it is not about political advantage/posturing then tell me why it only “GON” case that seems to have legs. What about the police officer who resides in Bath Estate who’s home was fire bomb also in the same year? WHAT ABOUT HIM!
You see our laws are basically common law oriented, it does not matter what is said and heard in any public forum; Radio, Television ect, ect.
One should still be able to pick a jury capable of making a fair decision and render a verdict; guilty, or not guilty based on the evidence presented in court and nothing else. Such evidence may be physical, or verbal evidence given.
The accuse under common law is allowed to retain a lawyer to represent him/her, if the accused is unable to afford an attorney, the State is obligated to provide the accuse with a public defender; (an attorney). In the more developed world that is how it is done, however with all thing unequal, and upside in Dominica, the process might be different.
Witnesses are called, examined, and cross examined, by both defense, and prosecuting attorneys, the jury sits and listens, they have the burden to determine the truth from a lie; at the end of all testimony, the judge instructs the jury on the law, in the event something was said in the proceedings which appear to be bias, the Judge will instruct the jury to disregard it, if for some reason an attorney attempt to disallow relevant evidence, the judge must instruct to regard it relevant to the matter.
The jury then gets the case for debate, hence their verdict should be final, I do not believe under any circumstance an impartial jury will not be found, the worst thing to happen is for the police not to prosecute the culprits in this matter; nobody should be allowed to get away with such a vicious crime, and magnitude.
The evidence exists to aid in the precaution.
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
Francisco, here you go again, the man who knows all, now playing investigator and prosecutor with the belief that you know the evidence that exist in the case. A lot of times what we hear on the radio, newspapers and other news and bloggers outlets are not a true representation of the facts. In fact, I as an ex-police officer have experienced that much too much. These stories only help to build conspiracy theories as you have done and again as a means to support your bias. But again, even you who see nothing good in DA have the right to say what you want for that is democracy that so many of us abuse.
Thanks for recognizing me as the man who knows it all; that is an great honor you have bestowed on me.
You see Mr. X-police, great and supreme investigator, I am dumb enough to know that allegations are not facts, although in Dominica allegations have become facts in many cases and used to set the criminals free, while the real evidence which could be used to convict the criminal was ignored.
This is precisely what we are experiencing in the Emanuel case at the moment; that is a very simple case to present, the fact that someone ran to the United States; this individual claimed to be a businessman in Dominica, shortly after he fled the country, his sister soled his business, all of his assets!
How do you account for that Mr. X-police?
How do you account for the medical treatment he obtained at the Marigot hospital for the injuries he sustained in the accident whiles his apparent accomplice was driving him to the airport.
Is it simply a coincident that the man who was driving him to the Airport is a lawyer, and one it is believed involved in the matter relating to the Emanuel’s?
Very intriguing questions are they not?
You cannot spin the events Mr. Dick Tracy, Matluck, Sherlock Homes whichever of those great detectives you are, the man who knows it all have you pegged! I am not a police officer, but damn if given the opportunity I would know how to solve such crimes; it is all about evidence, if you people are dumb enough, and unable to be productive and resolve such matters, there is nothing wrong about engaging the FBI, or Scotland Yard detective to assist you.
the problem is that the authorities in Dominica does not want such matters resolved, because of those involved, I suspect bringing the FBI; or Scotland Yard in to investigate some so called big-shot will be found t be a criminal and sent to jail.
No, they do not want that to happen in Dominica because if they do those thieves, vagabonds, hoodlums arsonist, scum of the earth will be exposed as they masquerade in high offices according to Dominica standards.
I am the man who knows it all: Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!
Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
You mean you think you know.
Though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever. Psalm 92…..Hold on Mr. and Mrs Emanuel. Your day of reckoning is coming soon.
I want an honest discussion about corruption. I believe that corruption forms a part of all Governments. This labour party led government is no saint and therefore some form of corruption lies therein. The UWP Govt. as we remembered was plauged with corrupt practices and that was shown by their rejection by the voters. So many of us today call this administration corrupt but we refuse to state the corrupt practice that once plagued the UWP led Govt. Isn’t that corruption in itself. If we cannot be honest and tell it like it is, why should the voters trust us and believe anything that we have to say. To be taken seriously we must condem all forms of corruption from everyone and not just the few we choose for political gain.
Change of government and u will see who is really corrupt. see they pay 500 thousand dollars already, hmmm
” Some form of corruption lies therein”- lol. You phony. That is all.
So we gave the UWP what we thought they deserve and that was 15 years ago- we voted them out. Why should we be talking about UWP of 15 years ago when we have a government who has taken corruption to the highest level. You want to talk about UWP corruption 18 years ago then let us also talk about the bin bobol, Suzanne $400 K passport; Fertilizer bobol; slush fund; Ambrose ca kowir; Georgetown Glanvillia people land sold to Krazy, ministers and advisors; You want to talk about the Villas; You want to talk about the construction company with board of directors being ministers of government; you want to talk about Petro Caribe money; you want to talk about the $400 K house that actually cost $1.8 million; you want to talk about money laundering lawyer of the PM; you want to talk about the French passport; what about David Xue and the Layou River hotel passport money; you want to talk about diplomatic passport and diplomatic status rental fee; you want to talk abou the the ALICO campaign money election money; I could go on and on to include those crooked lawyers and senior counsels working the treasury.
Now talk about UWP corruption and also show us the evidence of self enrichment by the former UWP government personnel.
When you Laborites have nothing substantial to contribute you turn to distraction and mepwi. Youshould be ……. embarassed to bring up corruption when Skerrit government is labeled a rogue government by regional and international organizations.
You Laborites are sick to the core when the opposition talk about your corruption you claim that this is all they do. Now they are talking about issues of economic development , jobs , fiscal management policies etc you running back to 18 years ago – a period which members and lying senior counsels admitted that there was no evidence of corruption by the then UWP.
Pardon my anger but you Laborats are nothing but arrogant idiots with criminal minds.
DEAR “OLD WOMAN” YOU SOUND LIKE A POWERFUL “YOUNG WOMAN” YOU COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER!!!!
I Have never seen a government so corrupt. HOW CAN ONE JUSTIFY GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS EVEN AGAINST G.O.N EMMANUEL????? WHAT ARE THEY HIDING?? EVERY DOG HAVE ITS DAY AND ONE DAY JUSTICE MUST PREVAIL!!
Your anger is a true reflection of what you are. I’m no labourite but telling it like it is. As a bias political supporter, I expect that from you. As a matter of fact it is people like you who will prevent the UWP from winning any election. You guys are angry and only call people names. If you had any intelligence you would know that if I’m a labourite or independent you would require my vote and that of others like me in order to win the election. But know, you are angry at any and everyone who doesn’t share your opinion. You are even prepared to give the UWP a clean slate from corruption. But know that I was a good friend of Earl Williams and Doreeen Paul. I know more that you will ever know.
It is so unfortunate that we wo scream for justice would use this unfortunate situation for Gon and his wife as a political ball. We bump it here and there, when we want, to keep our political stratigy in place. Lets continue to shout corruption at the end of the year, at the beginning of the year, and throughout the year in order that some how, some way, we the people of DA must believe and buy into it. But isn’t that injustice in itself to exploit another human being tragedy for ones or others personal benefit? I want justice not only for GON but for all the other people homes who have beeen broken ito, those who have been killed or assaulted, those who have been robbed and for those who we continue to spread propaganda about.
The perpetrators did not care whether is Christmas or what. Hear them glibly talk about peace and love at Christmas. To them it seems the Romans were right in crucifying Jesus Christ, innocent as he was.
Such horrific criminal acts that are not condemned forcefully by any Govt. must come back to hunt them. Imagine Minister of Legal Affairs, Minister of National Security, PM and others, whose interest it is to cover-up the crime, all were heard in sympathy with the criminal, but not the elder victims?
What an illegal shame on those who continue to cover-up that firebombing heinous crime and prevent that case from reaching the courts. Even it reach, would justice be served because of all those involved, one way or another.
Corruption at its highest. Corrupt practices by politicians, Lawyers, a few greedy, roguish, “Big men” have never been covered-up so boldly and openly. Never before, in the history of Dominica, have we seen such injustice.
Their consciences will forever hunt them. Sleepless nights will follow them for a long, long time. They tremble with fear of the Truth, righteousness and justice.
Anyone with the ambition of staying in office for 50 years, must find ways to eliminate his opponent. Never before in the history of Dominica has a government machinery defended a criminal involve in such a horrendous crime.
Nice article as usual Dennis! According to our “PM” man! you Good! but not Good enough, respectfully I will not accuse you of suffering from selective ###### but maybe you are good at choosing your topics and that’s fine too. Next time with the same passion write about the police officer and his family while asleep at their home was fire bombed. “SMFH”I will not get dirty going forward cause it is what it is. IF it writes like a Dennis, talks like a Dennis , think like a Dennis. IT is a Dennis. Happy New YEAR to all my people including my beloved ??DENNIS!
@ZORO STRESS But I find ZORO STRESS is out of place. You mean you are such a classic illiterate that you cannot do that job to talk about another firebombing incident? Well you must really avail yourself of the opportunity to go to night school, so you won’t be blaming Dennis for you tomfoolery.
SHAME ON YOU!
Well as far as I am concerned, articles of this nature need not be published only in December, but throughout the year.
REALLY BRILLIANT PIECE!
@ “o” STRESS Stop depending on others to do for you. Get up from your lazy black butt, and do it yourself. Is Dennis your employee?
One day, one day kang-kar-day! The cells at Police Headquarters have seen many a “once powerful” strong man (PJ, Newton, Reid et al) after they fell. There MUST and WILL be justice for GON Emmanuel. But Change Must Come and that will be soon.
Assertive, NOT Agressive!
But Dennis you forgot mention that the main exhibit was crushed and shipped out of state paid for by the knowledgeable “victim” twenty-one days after the fire. The mystery is why the exhibit was shipped out of state in a container. CAN YOU EXPLAIN THAT DENNIS OR CAN SOME ONE HELP? PROBABLY YOU CAN ASSIST DNO EDITOR.
Man, you are truly sick in the head. Are you insinuating that the aged attorney planned his own death and that of his wife? If you are that sure gives us the motive please. I understand the man was not even insured.
Tat’s a fact!Dennis should make mention of the evidence that was sent away via a container by the alledged victim.Since he knows so much he should be able to elaborate on that too.Right Dennis?!
The police should take responsibility for all exhibits following a suspecious fire like this. They responded immidiately so they should secure the exhibits for evidence…
Why don’t u ask why when the charges were on Isidore the PM use State resources to protect him, y, y, y,
Like a Cancer eating away at the Soul of a nation, this Government sanctioned injustice and cover – up will forever define who we are as a people, either hypocretes or truthful.
But hold on Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel the wheels of justice is closer than many imagine.
Dennis,is this the only case you can so forcefully talk about? If you find things are moving too slow for you take the matter in your hand.
I think that he should dwell on it MORE OFTEN, especially on the involvement of politicians on the government side who sided against the victim of the fire.
JOB WELL DONE DENNIS.
@ FAST N FURIOUS This is the comment of someone with a ‘Dusty Brain’. Why can’t you buy yourself a broom and pay a good citizen to sweep this white dust from off your stupid brain? your sot!
It takes a thief to catch a THIEF.
I sympathize with all those Dominicans who want justice to be served but it would be easier to see Skeritt resign as leader of the DLP or Prime Minister of Dominica then to see the DON Emanuel case reach the courts. If that case was to reach the high courts to many high ranking Government Officials as well as top ranking supporters in the bosom of the DLP would have to answer questions. For instance, The Prime Minister and Minister of Security now President were on a radio station making some inflammatory statements even at one time appeared to be supporting the accused. We cannot forget the interview between Tony and the accused. The Police could not find the accused but Tony new, he new, he new where to find the accused. We cannot forget the statement made by the Lawrence feller who questioned the color, the holding capacity of the container used and the contents. In the mixed, we also had the Attorney General’s position who was not clear as to which side of the fence he was leaning. Can you imagine the embarrassment it would cause to them big boys sitting or standing in the dock to be questioned by a foreign prosecutor.
It’s just a matter of time. If you have life you may see it reach the court system.
Are you using this unfortunate incident to make political mileage?
why is it that Dennis has all the details that Denny did not give in his own so called confession? A LOCALLY MADE GASOLINE BOMB??? HOW DID U KNOW THAT DENNIS?.
The truth will eventually come out you know. The truth must come out.
@ Jude Nicholas You really thought that the bomb was made in the Middle East, and it came to Dominica on Liat flight no 345 JUDE? Did you hear of any blue car Jude?Did you know of anyone who was immediately on the scene soon after the fire Jude? YOUR HYPOCRITE!!!
Truth crushed to earth will rise again!
I Would really wish that the truth comes out during my lifetime. Let some of the politicians, lawyers and others who were on radio blaming the victim be questioned under oath, and if found guilty made to pay for the attempted murder.
Happy New Year to you GON EMMANUEL AND YOUR WIFE!
Can you and Dennis explain where the bomb came from when Denny in his so called confession which I still listen to on my computer never mentioned a bomb. Denny said he had gas in a fifteen gallon container which he poured all over the car then used a lighter to set the car ablaze.
where in Denny’s so called confession did he ever mentioned a bomb(a locally made gas bomb at that).
The truth must come out and whoever is responsible must and shall pay for this public mischief.
The truth must be told. All of a sudden three years later we are hearing of a locally made gas bomb when the “confessor” never made mentioned of a gas bomb. How did a Locally made gas bomb came about??
Please do not villify me just answer this mystery.
A hole the truth is already out. You , Tony , Skerrit, Charles Saverin , Easy Door, Carrette, Siko all know the truth.
You can hide coming in under all kind of handle but people like you and evil doers of this cortupt Skerrit regime will not hide and cannot run from karma and retribution.
why is it that Dennis has all the details that Denny did not give in his own so called confession? A LOCALLY MADE GASOLINE BOMB??? HOW DID U KNOW THAT DENNIS?.
Asphalt: Dennis maybe frequenting places you don’t ej Rrum shops(speakeasies) and mingles with those you don’t hence there in lie the answer.
You need to be amongst the ordinary peps instead of trying to betray ur beginings. Then only then can u b au current.
Like you Dennis, I live in hope. But as the priest advised from his pulpit in Pottersville we will use a spiritual drone to force some remedial action next time.(PS election time seems good to me)
It is clear to me that not of these statements are really meant to seek justice for
Gon Emanuel but to really be used as a political tool. Most of those who come on dno crying bo-ho for Gon Emanuel are being flat out hypocrite.
For these uwp supporters wrong is right and right is wrong and then they turn around and accuse the government of the same.
correction: most of these statements.
correction: really not meant.
This is like the 1993 carnival Fire…no justice …but God is in charge…
JudeAsphalt see what the problem is with Love 1 or you don’t?
It maybe a typo on Love1 but it is clear the 9 is inverted or to put it in local palance “upsidedown tete en bar”Like you and 99.9% of Dumbs-in-cans we are tete-eh-bar beginning with you. Jude Asphalt t ….. to happen here is a famous saying history ignored repeats itself when people like you sit on ur rear and allow poopoo to continue.Love 1 meant 1963 but it turned out to be a convienient description of how we are.Tete-eh-Bar.
Just an observant Dominican somewhere out there.
Who is watching the ultimat ecorrupt regime, the hopeless opposition and a listless population who live to sewo, eat, crap a continue to keep their heads in the sand. Just imagine a DPP comes forward whilst the real one is on pre-retirement makes a big talk then fails to show up later( hemay have been over his 3 months Acting”” position hence one shilingford got bail. Very well done guys well done. X-mas just went by New years in en route, next the tents begin and carnival is here more time to drink and forget the pass. L’homme toh soo” total population drunk.
Things fall back, then come fete innocent, fishermen fest, easter, summer we get worried about el nino global warming, the n it;s October creole in the Park, then independece followed by X-mas again where did 2014 go?
We never had a chance between now and then to have time to sober up, drink cooling like they did in the past. Welike it so.
To end, Love 1 it was 1963 we are in 2014 almost.
Nothing ever came out of it and we were more primitivethen and it was hidden, people have died others have remain silent not even singing ” oh silent night” The UWP former, exiled fugitive opposition leader former minister of communications and works. The one who suggested smoke herring for independence breakfast for invitees in 95. He told us we must learn to hide ourtracks. What will a regime in power for 3 terms do?
Am watching reading listening DA.
Liberating new year. Maybe i may have to come out of political retirement and from the bench to bring about justice to a struggling land.
For someone who was on the “bench” your contribution sounds a bit disjointed.
Wow, Why would you say that you are an observant Dominican.Nothing you said in your comment can describe you as someone who is observant. If someone has expressed a different opinion regarding the matter, why is it you assume that this person and others which you refer to as “Dumbs-in-cans” do not have a right to a different opinion regarding the matter and if so, why would you want to categorized them as “Dumbs-in-cans,” your political rhetoric is so cliche it does not sound like someone who is observant.
You have have said something that scared me quote “Maybe i may have to come out of political retirement and from the bench to bring about justice to a struggling land.” Do you really think that you can bring about justice with that kind of political rhetoric you have displayed in your comment, that kind of thinking is very scary.
