Charles Maynard was a legend

Dear Editor,

I would like to share the following with your reading public:

Charles Maynard was not just the Parl Rep for the Soufriere Constituency, but a Legend.

I was very fortunate to be Maynard’s Campaign manager in the 1995 general elections in Dominica.

Maynard delivered to the people of the Soufriere Constituency in  many different ways and in every ministry he held with the Dominica freedom Party.

When Maynard was minister for Health he delivered Health Centers in Pointe Michel, Soufriere, and Scott’s Head.

When he was Minister for Agriculture he delivered  significantly help to the farmers in the Soufriere Constituency including an Aloe growing and harvesting business in the Bois Cut Let area.

Maynard also encouraged the local farmers in the area to take farming as a profession and not fun. He also started the School feeding programme for the Scott’s Head Primary School and many other schools on the island.

When he was Minister for Tourism he did so many things in  his Constituency including Kone-Konla, put Gallion on the national map, the Encore Project in Soufriere  which still bring a significant amount of business in the area and not forgetting the Service of American Eagle to Dominica.

Maynard helped a lot of people personally from his salary including scholarships,  pay rent for poor residents and Christmas presents for the least fortunate in the Constituency.

Personally I must say Maynard was a great part of my success.

He was the one who encouraged me to take a job aboard Royal Caribbean cruise line ‘Song of America’ after the UWP form the Government in 1995. Today, I’m a very successful leader wherever I go.

It’s because of Maynard advise I achieved most of my experiences and successes.

And yes, Maynard, I will try do the thing you believe I will be good at which is to represent the People of the Soufriere Constituency in Parliament at the highest honesty and integrity level one day.

On behalf of the Soufriere Constituency, my wife Marianne and kids Maydine, Jeff and Jacques I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to his wife and family.

May his soul rest in Peace!!

Charles Maynard was indeed an icon and a legend in his time. Those of you who are old enough will remember the song, “A Legend In My Time.”
Charles made the most of his life and never wasted a moment to do some good. He was a compassionate and grateful person who loved his country and wanted what was best for it and for nationals.
A few years ago when I visited DA I visited him and his wife. He was concerned about people in general and their progress. He asked me about my relatives, brother and sisters who reside overseas and how were they doing. He spoke generally about getting a proper education which will enable every one to obtain and secure a good job.
I also recall he asked me what do I think of Dominica and its progress. He said that someone who resided in the U.K. for 40 years visited Dominica for the first time since and stated that Dominica is still the same and had not changed or progressed. He asked me what do I think about that. Note how discreetly he put the question to me. I laughed at what the person stated about Dominica and replied that the person is blind. I affirmed that what I have noticed about Dominica it has indeed progressed and is continuing to progress. He was pleased at my response.
I spoke the truth. I love my country Dominica, whether it progressed or not. Thank God it has progressed.
He was also an intellectual who dearly loved his country. How could anyone not say good things about him and compliment him who was also a respectable person?
I salute His Excellency Charles Maynard. I am sorry that I did not inform him about this during his lifetime. You know the saying, “Send me no flowers when I’m gone. Give it to me while I am alive.”
In his spiritual world, God gives him a view of all those who genuinely loved him, who appreciated him and who compliment him for his earthly works. Make no mistake about that.
I have previously stated this on DNO. A dear lady, since departed said to me, “The word of the people is the word of God.” The majority of you have spoken well of him which is a clear indication of who he was and his works. This is additional consolation to his wife, Joan and family.
I am sorry that I will not be present in person to attend his Funeral Holy Mass, Service but I will certainly be there in spirit. I have telephoned the Church secretary about him and that his name be mentioned in all the Holy Masses on Sunday during the Prayers of the Faithful. This will be done. IF the Good Lord wills, in November, when the faithful departed souls are specifically remembered, I will write his name in the Book of Life. I love doing this for all those whom I knew and even some whom I do not know.
He is a step ahead of us. We must do all we can, in our power to be loving, helpful, generous in words and physically so. Keep in mind that God is taking note of all what we say and do for our judgment even while we are still living. God’s blessing and peace.

You know it really is shocking to read all the pouring of good words for Charles Maynard.

    Dominicans you are sick people.

Over the past year he had been made fun of, degraded and maligned in the press and media. Even while he laid in the hospital it continued. This man deserved the world.

Charles Maynard is an ICON he touched thousands of lives all over CARICOM and the other parts of the world he traversed. He is a HERO and he was a genuine persons and every life he touched it blossomed and shone.

Dominicans are just too ignorant and donot know any better. Mr Maynard rest in peace and continue to look over us.

      @ Realistic

Charles Maynard is indeed an Icon. I recently made the statement that some people are not realistic and also encouraging. Do they ever bring people down for doing good as they do nothing except to complain and criticize them. Malicious hearts. They never knew him and what he did to make life better for some people. He was not a man who publicized what he did, sought publicity and expected compliments for what he did. God knew and will reward him and has already done so. Let us sing his praises and tell the whole world about what he did during his lifetime. May his soul rest in peace.

Common on Langsal you call that beff. This tribute to Mr. Maynard is a well deserve one especially when you compare his outstanding representation, to that of the last and present parliamentary representatives. Mr. Maynard gave effective representation and was always in the area on a Thursday once he was on island. Our present Parl. Rep. should follow his foot step in other to avoid our strikes and protest in the Area. So give Jeff a break. May Mr. Maynard Soul RIP.

It is truly heartening to witness the outpouring of affection for for Mr. Maynard on the occasion of his passing. He was indeed an extrordinary man who saw his journey on earth as an opportunity to serve his fellow men, to carry out the work of the Lord, as he would often say.
His passing may not end the debate about whether he could have done more to exercise adult supervision over an administration that seems to have lost its ethical bearings but to be fair, an individual’s entire life work must considered when we pass judgement over his or her legacy. This is especially true for Mr. Maynard. He was a larger than life figure, and like the rest of us, he was not perfect, but his heart and his life’s work were in the right place and he cared deeply about his country and his fellow men.
His outstanding legacy of public service and his attention to the needs of others will forever define his place in the history.
My condolences and moral support to his family on this sad occasion.
