Dear Editor,
In any arena, sporting, political and alike, people have the right to express their views. However, one does not have the right to be rude or disrespectful to others.
While attending a recent political presentation by representatives of the United Workers Party of Dominica in St. Croix, I witnessed a debase behavior exhibited by a number of Dominicans. The booing and laud conversations while presenters were presenting did not represent well “The isle of beauty, isle of splendor.”
If Dominicans must uphold the good name of their beloved island and wonderful people, they must make allowance for a paradigm shift – trading antiquated mediocrity mentality for elevated thinking. Mediocre mentality fosters outbursts with an argumentative spirit, while elevated thinking allows diversity from which multitudes of evolutionary ideas are born.
May we be resolved to end this fracas behavior that is too often seen in what is suppose to be professional settings? Because a person disagrees, that does not render him an enemy. It may well be that both parties aspire the same objective while each is driven by his conviction to employ a different approach.
We must come to realize, listening respectfully does not imply agreeing with nor endorsing the views of a presenter with whom we disagree. Rather, listening quietly to someone in spite of the fact we disagree, displays a level of maturity.
Elevated thinking is an art, and it necessitates development.
Our low down and ignorant gutter people. Obviously, these people cannot listen and show respect. So why bother to come to the meeting. These are your fellow Dominicans. Come on. I listened to all the meetings via my computer and they were well put together, the speakers were articulate and presented the facts for their point of view. If you cannot behave, stay away…
Do not fool yourself . There are people who leave their homes to come to the meeting to disrupt the meeting. That is the nature of Dominican politics. They are not booing what is said they are simply booing for the sake of it. We will see more of this during the actual campaign as the Labour Party desperately tries to cling to power.
When you have a leader who insults the people what do you expect. A leader who told the people “It’s none of your dam business where Labour Party getting money:
Go To Hell
Go To Hell
Go To Hell.
He is ably supported by Austrie, and blind supporters who cheer them on IN THEIR INSULTS..
THAT’S WHY CHANGE IS A MUST!
As an educated individual the truth must be told.. Mr. Preacher, the disrespect came when my Dominican young women were insulted by being called PROSTITUES, YOU CLAPPED! In your eyes, Mr. Baptiste was right. No No NO that is blatant disrespect. The disrespect came when Mr.. Baptiste said, many young women in Dominica are waiting for the PM to pass by and give them money. That is What? My niece is a baby machine, pro life, she has to populate DA. She is working on having a cricket team of her own. If she is a prostitute, then what are the men called! This was a public forum, therefore, I was invited. Mr. Do you think it is OK for Mr. Linton to call baby D. Skerrit name over and over in derogative terms. No, where is the respect. I was protecting the baby, preacher you were clapping. It is also disrespectful to show slides of DA after the December storm with garbage allover. You are living in STX, no I will not put my adopted home land down. But continue walking the streets and give out your tracks my dogs will greet you next time.
I really can’t understand how a party which is being booed every where it goes even dream of being able to take power in Dominca?
@Anonymous BOO MY FOOT!!!!!
YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY AN INVETERATE LIAR, since i listened to every single meeting. This must be street vibes you are spewing there. This is what you would say to those who have never listened d to these patriots, loving, kind hearted and brilliant men. Let me tell you sir/madam how impressed i am about these men. I listened to Lennox Linton in Tortola, and it was like they had stolen him from us. The applause was thunderous, the man’s articulation was the best i have ever heard, and this was articulated by everyone who listened. ARE YOU SCARED? YOU REALLY HAVE REASONS TO? Now i am of the belief that we have abour 75%-80% Dominicans living abroad who are convinced and have presently been convinced that we are governed by a clueless, wicked, inept, insultive and greedy regime and the people (living abroad) ARE ASKING FOR CHANGE TOO, thanks to TEAM DOMINICA (uwp).
You must stop listening to the ANIMAL SHOW. You cannot learn anything worthwhile there. Listen to Q95, the most listended to RADIO IN THE WORLD. ALSO LISTENED TO ON MARS ( tell real possie that for me). That’s where (Q95) the meetings were carried live..
THIS TRIP WAS AN OVERWHELMING SUCCESS, and trust me, Team Dominica (UWP) has brilliant candidates. OMG!
So Stop The Trembling (you are not Skerrit). Get on board. Dont let the train leave you down.
PEE PEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. THE TRAIN IS HEADING TO VICTORY!!!!!!!!
TIME FOR CHANGE
HOW LONG?
NOT LONG!
Say wa u want bt u will C change & its a MUST.
Unfortunately this is not “beth” so people will not comment on this but this article could not have come at a better time. I have been saying that for years that there is life after politics. The way some of these Labourites behave you would swear that Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit is Lord and Saviour. I don’t support his party but this does not mean I have to denegrate him. I read some comments on facebook from some seemingly “educated” persons in reference to Monelle and I must say this is in poor taste. I will not support any gutter type politics and this goes for UWP, Labour, Freedom or Pappy. It is time we change the standard and RISE above that. This being said CHANGE is definitely a MUST!
You know having left DA at a young age I was blessed and to this day, very grateful for the opportunities I had and took to improve my knowledge and understanding of all things. Yes I am educated but that is not the most telling facet of being knowledgeable. I only have to remind you of a PHD holder (I like it, I really like it) demonstration we recently witnessed. Instead, I prefer to use this yardstick, how ENLIGHTENED are you. There are many people I have met who have (no formal education) but are truly enlightened.
Enlightenment allows you to see through the darkness, allows you to differentiate right from wrong irrespective of who it is, to be able to make sensible decisions based on a degree of sound logic and personal integrity.
Sadly, there are many among us who may be educated/schooled who have no ENLIGHTENMENT
Articles like this, need to be published more than once. or said differently, every now and then, to remind D/cans how to behave.
Well done. Write some more like this. Thank you
I Like it…I REALLY REALLY Like it
Respect is earned my friend! If the UWP team was booed according to you, what does that tell you about their image outside of Dominica. I don´t understand why people refuse to accept the opinión of others. The people have a right to express how they feel…. so if that is the way they can express themselves, so be it. We are just too biased and we always want others to abide by our wishes!
And we wonder why the youth of Dominica behave the way they do.No law or No constitution is gonna stop King Skerrit from doing what he wants. Once you don’t support him his supporters will take you down to the gutter. I remember a certain someone saying is either you red or your dead. ALAS poor us in the country one day we will wake up and smell the coffee
@Tell It Like It Is UWP TEAM BOOOED.? I think UWP has more support out there than they have on island.
GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT.
Well said letter, it seems some people are being paid to distract the truth, we most all face the truth and let the messengers give you the facts. What we need to d.o is to question them on their spoken words or else we will not learn and we will remain in our ignorance and Dominica will be taken away from us then it will be too late. Gentlemen continue the good work , Jesus was rejected for the truth then after up to today we are mourning.
Well said and very succinct.
Thank God Francisco Telemaque did not write this.
Well said Evangelist but you of all people should know that you are preaching to the choir here. As sad as it may be, Dominicans will be Dominicans if you get my point Preacher.
God Bless…..
Couldn’t agree more! !!!!!!
The presenter must first respect the audience by being truthful and reasonable.
They should not expect to insult their audience and expect them to be respectful? Respect is earned.
When Skerrit told Dominicans “go to hell, it is none of your damn business,” was he being respectful?
When Skerrit promises a million projects just because election is coming up, is he being ‘reasonable?’
You missed the entire point of the letter just to blow some hot air.
I waiting for the Labourites to come to my area. I waiting.
I would urge you to stand on the higher ground and do not sink to their level, just listen and ask the questions they cannot answer, then will be revealed their true worth and intentions.
So typical of you biased people! Wait, they are coming!
Please expand on how the presenter was being disrespectful and unreasonable to his audience and clarify the untruths that guided you to your opinion.
The presentation by Issac baptiste speaks to the disrespect of the presenters. If I was present I would boooooooo!!!! very loud. So Mr. Evangelist and other UWP supporters your partisan point is well taken bearing in mind that we are in the political season and anything goes even calling women who seek government assistance PROSTITUTES.
@tomtom You are sounding empty and stupid. Go on the Animnal Show with your garbage. Have you listened to Austrie and Skerrit?
Nomination committee It would be impotrtant for the most inslultive PM in Dominica’s history to read your blogg. No wonde the politicians on the Labour Party side have no respect.
Oh Yes. Splendid letter. It expresses the unfortunate realities that exist in our pyschy as a people. This behavior apparently stems from a particular type of ignorance, i.e, lack of knowledge or information and a deliberate quest to stifle progress. Sometimes this notion comes from the leaders in society across the spectrum including academia, religious, political, sports etc.
Your simple but effective oratory is well-taken. As usual, based on an analysis done, most readers will find your letter uninteresting because it does not contain the lavwe’, the maypwe, or bef and so on.
Kudos on this commentary. Well said!
Good article.
