Breadfruit is the name in B/ham U. K.
That YAMPAIN is too burnt already. Not the correct way to roast a breadfruit
all u i not c-in nothing in dat fire dere eh
Another reason why I love dominica the food is superb.
Man that pic just evoke memories of many many moons ago, i remember a summer in La plain with the same set up,we had a torch yampee(1/4) each with a cup of cocoa tea, that was oh so good,it never left my mind.i can even feel the misty morning while the yampee and the cocoa tea going down smoothly.those were the days, happy days in la plain.
That fire side looks a little bit modern. There are much more antique fooh difay to roast breadfruit.
Can we create a scrapbook with all of these tremendous looking foods? The traditions of our grandparents and parents is passing us by. Is there something that can be done in order to preserve such heritage? Just a thought. We have to save our culture. Thanks DNO and the participants of this very entertaining and inspiring “back to our culture’ interlude. Avocado anyone?

In England we call it gwenpain and we serve it with fried crabs and cask rum (zayid)
You’ve been away too long. “Gwempain” is breadnut. This is breadfruit! “Yampeh.”
kee, kee….kee
gwenpain? here in DA gwenpain is breadNUT not breadFRUIT. we call breadfruit yampain or pempem here.
yah, you have definitely been away too long. Zayid and cask rum are two completely different things. Ask anybody that drinks it and they’ll tell u the difference. I think zayid is stll somewhat illegal in Dominica where as cask rum is not.
