POEM: If Dominica could talk, what would she say?

Why am I tinted …didn’t you like what you see
You have placed a shadow of darkness over me
I am no longer the happy
I am no longer the free
Remember that’s what you fought so hard for me to be
I’m no longer the sweet taste of purity
Cause my pride you stole from me
I no longer have my own identity
And u slowly tarnished my credibility
I’m no longer praised envied or admired
I was once the island most desired
You abandon me when I needed you most
Now you are spread all over from coast to coast
You allowed me to be populated by people I do not know
So love for country they will never show
I’m being used, abused and disrespected
My integrity and morals are misrepresented
I’m no longer the unspoiled the untouched
My people why are u hurting me so much?

All are entitled to their opinion. I love, love, love Dominica. Everyone must make their own path, whether here or abroad. Some people are jealous and some are wicked. Take it as you may…it’s a changing environment. Some change is good.

I was a visitor to this beautiful isle a week ago, and listened to a poem “if Dominica could talk” on lennox`s radio station the Sunday. it was by a young man, and he repeated the title at the beginning of each verse. I was moved by this poem! Does anyone know the one I am talking about, and how could I get hold of it? It was brilliant!

Wake up my people open up ur eyes
The author is not being political or otherwise
Her poem represents the thoughts if our nation
Asking to help stop its destruction
She don’t want to be mentioned as the Dominica that was
Because we ignored her cry and refused to fight the cause
Whatever is making her suffer so
Needs to be told … they need to know
So take heed her plea I’m begging u all
Cause we are all responsible for her downfall.

I think that the writer has a right to express his feeling through his poem. PPL do not feel offended and stop being defensive. Respect what another man feels.

Dominica is a beatiful island naturally and it’s not because of us,JAH created and meant it to be so.But we are asked by JAH to care for it and not rape it like the corrupt polititions do,foreigners can be invited to help us enhance it so we the natives first of all benefit from the abundance of it’s resources of which we should share with them but not what the so called leaders are doing like the state malice of which our monies are given to Chinese with no benefit to us.So generally i subscribe to your poem Mr.Thomas, all the intelligent voices and intellectuals should speak out like u.

AM STILL THE BEAUTTIFUL ENVY OF THE CARIBBEAN
AM STILL FREE EASY GOING WITH LOW CRIME RATE
AM STILL EDUCATING MY PEOPLE OVERSEAS

MY CHILDREN ARE BREAKING ACADEMIC RECORDS ALL THE TIMES
MY NEIGHBORS KIDS VISIT ME BY THE THOUSANDS EVERY SUMMER
MY RIVERS ARE STILL CLEAN AND AIR STILL FRESH

IF MR COLUMBUS RETURNS HE WILL STILL NOTICE THAT AM STILL EXOTIC
IF ITS TOO HOT YOU CAN USE MY RIVERS
IF ITS TOO COLD COME TO MY SCREWS

YES SOME OF MY KIDS GET ON UNRULY
YES THE MAJORITY ARE KIND AND LOVING
YES WE STILL CARE FOR EACH OTHER

GOD HATH BLESSED ME WITH ABUNDANT WATERS
GOD HATH GIVEN ME LUSH VEGETATION
GOD HAVE PROTECTED ME FROM VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS

I DONT LOVE THOSE WHO ILL TALK ME
I DONT APPRECIATE THOSE WHO KEEP ME DIRTY
I DONT EMJOY THE NEGATIVE CHATTERING

SOMETIMES ITS NICE TO BE ME
    SOMETIMES ITS PRETENSE
    SOMETIMES ITS CONFUSION

    BUT MY KIDS HAVE ADVANCED
BUT SOME ARE TOO LAZY AND GREEDY
    BUT MANY SHOW OCCASIONAL LOVE

ALAS AM IN MY 30’S AND A LIL WORRIED
ALAS DIVISION IN D FAMILY CAUSES ME PAIN
ALAS POLITICS AND CHURCH ARE MY WORSE CHILDREN

HOWEVER I HAVE TO GIVE THANKS
HOWEVER WE HAVE A LOT OTHERS DONT HAVE
HOWEVER WE MUST LEARN TO SAY THANKS

Dominica has put all these negative talk behind her and is looking forward to the positive. So if Dominica could talk she would speak of the many positive things happening within.

No way would she criticize foreigners coming to her shores as many of her sons and daughters has taken up residents in other peoples land.

Therefore, those who dwell in the negative Dominica has long gone past them and looking forward to the positive. Dominica nah tun bak!

I disagree with you the only one in the negative would be those like you who believe that keeping some of our people in bondage is best for them or maybe it’s pleasing to you knowing that you dont have to ask anyone for a hand out just to survive when one cant put food on the table or pay the bills tell me what do they do they go and look for hand out instead of having something they can do for themselves like planting food to feed their family, how many of those folks that you help out of the goodness of your heart you see IF DOMINICA COULD TALK’ she would want us all to be ecah other’s keeper so dont kid yourself the content of the POEM is very much in the present not in the past the writer of that Poem summed it up very nicely.\I am glad he wrote the Poem now a lot of folks have been touched by it they are speaking out we have to face up to what is going on and stop the hurting because DOMINICA belong to all of us not to some to all of us.

“Apres Bonde se la tere” has all been forgotten.

    Mountains being torn down.
    Quarries Silting up her reefs
Colas plant poisoning her largest nursery….layou river
Her $ and resources being given away
    Passports/nationality being sold
    Drug dealers ruling
    Law profession lacks/abandoned professional integrity.

This is a nice poem. Much of it I agree with and some I disagree with. The Indians were the original people of this island. Everyone else came later as emigrants due to imperialism or a desire to live here. There is still hope for this island. It is unique and it is not completely destroyed. There is still time to reclaim and give back respect. However, the time is short.
The disrespect is from people who do not know what they have here and allow it to be given away or taken away cheaply by other entities.
The disrespect is the pollution that has been created unnecessarly by consumption from products in other countries along the line of agrichemical and technology. While some technology is essential and makes for an easier lifestyle, much of it is not necessary. DA was a different place before the TV set came and took over.
Exercise your right to vote before you no longer have it. And vote for a candidate with integrity, forget about the political parties. Vote for someone who is for the people and not themselves.
