Former President of the United States, Donald Trump has been indicted on criminal charges in New York on Thursday, making him the first former president to be charged with a crime.
He was charged for his role in organizing hush money payments made to an adult film star during his 2016 campaign.
The charges made in the indictment have not yet been revealed.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has been investigating Trump on the matter.
It included $130,000 payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Daniels claims that she had an affair with Trump in 2006.
Trump denies the affair but has admitted directing his then lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, to pay Daniels $130,000 for her silence.
Trump has released a statement in response to the indictment claiming it was “Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history.”
“I believe this Witch-Hunt will backfire massively on Joe Biden,” the former president said in a lengthy statement. “The American people realize exactly what the Radical Left Democrats are doing here. Everyone can see it. So our Movement, and our Party – united and strong – will first defeat Alvin Bragg, and then we will defeat Joe Biden, and we are going to throw every last one of these Crooked Democrats out of office so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
