The Government of Dominica has announced that an official funeral will be held for His Eminence Kelvin Edward Cardinal Felix. A Memorial Mass in honor of the late Cardinal Felix is scheduled to take place at the Cathedral Chapel in Roseau on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, starting at 10:00 a.m. Prior to the Mass, a viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Cathedral Chapel.
In recognition of Cardinal Felix’s contributions, flags will be flown at half-staff on all public buildings on both Tuesday, June 18, and Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Cardinal Felix, who was the first Catholic priest ordained in Dominica, began his priesthood in 1956 and was later consecrated as Archbishop in 1981. He held prominent positions such as President of the Antilles Episcopal Conference and the Caribbean Conference of Churches. In 2014, he was elevated to the rank of Cardinal by Pope Francis. Additionally, he was honored with Dominica’s highest accolade, the Dominica Award of Honour, in 1999.
The Office of the Prime Minister officially extended its condolences via statement: “The Government of Dominica expresses sincerest condolences to his bereaved family and the members of the Catholic community in Dominica and the Caribbean,”
