Chief Cultural Officer says there’s more to come for 47th Independence celebration

Earlson Matthew

Chief Cultural Officer Earlson Matthew is reminding the general public that there is a lot more to experience as Dominica celebrates its 47 years of progress and purpose.

His comments came during a statement on Monday.

“So we are just coming off one of our biggest World Creole Music Festivals as we celebrate 25 in 25. But that’s not the end of the independence season,” Matthew said. “ There’s still the Miss Wob Dwiyet Pageant to come. As you know, we have seven beautiful young ladies vying for that title. And that’s taking place at the Massacre Indoor Sporting Facility this Wednesday the 29th.”

He continued, “Remember, Friday [October 31] is Creole Day…  And we have a National Dress Parade on the streets of Roseau.”

Matthew said the Division of Culture is looking forward to making history on that day.

“Remember on that day we’re promoting the National Wear and we are inviting everyone to join us,” he emphasized.

Matthew added, “Also, the National Cultural Gala is on Sunday, the 2nd of November at the Botanic Gardens, the National Day Observance Ceremony on the 3rd, and the National Day of Community Service on the 4th.”

Ego, address the issues and desist with your incessant ad hominem assault on the plain-spoken messenger.

otherwise I agree, no one should defend bad behavior nor should they only point it out in others and fail to acknowledge it in themselves.

The Cultural Division needs to do more to preserve our National Anthem. There are too many variations; people seem to be doing what they want.

And as to the National Wear, please educate that there is a difference between Emancipation Day and Independence. For one thing, independence is about creole and not African wear.

The true worth of culture should be values that dwell deep within the hearts of the people. It should not be limited to once-a-year staged attractions that we need to be reminded about.

Unless culture goes deeper, while we fiddle Rome burns.

What is true INDEPENDENCE? There are two types of INDEPENDENCE:
1.Political Independence – the freedom of a country or state from an external power
    2. Personal Independence – freedom from control by another individual or organization

From those two simple definitions, clearly, neither the country (Dominica) nor its people can genuinely brag about enjoying true INDEPENDENCE. Dominica is beholden to China in particular, also to Russia that are its creditors and benefactors. Pathetically, too many citizens have resorted to mendicancy, by begging and relying on Roosevelt and his devotees.

Both the future of the country and that of its inhabitants looks bleak and forlorn under Roosevelt’s inept and corrupt stewardship.

So you want to lecture people on the true meaning of Independence, lol, such superficial meaning distorting facts to suite your subjective belief supporting a political agenda and being arrogant. When you write, quote, “Both the future of the country and that of its inhabitants looks bleak and forlorn under Roosevelt’s inept and corrupt stewardship” that is the arrogance I’m talking about. Have you looked at the root of what drives you to make such comments, is it from an independent mind or a mind influenced by a political agenda with contempt for the Government, do not come with your arrogant lecture on what you believe something is, making ludicrous statements.

Gary, address the issues and desist with your incessant ad hominem assault on the plain-spoken messenger. Stop being a loyal and fierce defender malfeasance, thievery and bad governance.
