National record holder in the men’s shot put event, Dillion Simon, missed out on a spot in the medal round of the men’s shot put at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games Friday evening.

Simon, the first thrower in the 12-man final, tossed 16.97 with his first attempt.

Simon didn’t get things right on his second attempt and fouled his throw.

Simon needed to get past 17.18 meters to keep his chances of qualifying for the top 8 and the medal round alive with his final throw.

Simon gave it his all with his third toss and tossed 17.42 meters. However, his hopes of qualifying for the medal round were dashed when he was passed by Akeem Stewart of Trinidad and Tobago who tossed 18.56 with his third throw for the 8th and final spot.

Simon ended the men’s final in 9th place.

The shot put event was won by New Zealand.
