The government has taken an important step toward the advancement of sports in Dominica by establishing the National Sports Council.
In announcing this decision, Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Community Development, Senator Oscar George said it underscores the commitment of the government to develop local sports and create opportunities for young athletes, in keeping with a policy decision articulated by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.
According to George, the formation of the National Sports Council follows extensive consultations with key stakeholders in the sporting community, including athletes, coaches, and administrators. Additionally, a task force composed of experts served as a resource group, contributing valuable insights to inform the Council’s work plan.
Former International Cricket umpire and President of the Dominic Olympic Committee, Billy Doctrove, has been appointed as the inaugural Chairman of the Sports Council.
“Mr. Doctove brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that we are all confident will benefit the Council and of course, we wish him well as Chairman,” George stated.
The National Sports Council will focus on several critical areas including an urgent review of existing sports legislation, aiming to modernize and align it with the latest developments in the sporting world. The Council will also spearhead the finalization of a comprehensive national sports policy. This policy will address various aspects related to sports improvement, including infrastructure, talent development, and community engagement.
George believes that the establishment of the National Sports Council represents a milestone in Dominica’s sporting landscape. He said by enhancing overall management and strategic planning, the Council aims to elevate sports participation, performance, and accessibility across the nation.
Another useless nonsensical organisation established for their cronies to get another salary. That is a slap in the face of every sports association that already exists, inclusive of the Olympic Committee. I am tired of these girls n boys club organisations that are just easy salaries but NOTHING gets done. And if it does, its never at the desired standard.
Let me guess, the focus will be to establish that track facility at point round. a place that is in the middle of nowhere with nothing around it. when they could have developed Benjamin’s Park in a more comprehensive manner. Lets be honest, DLP not giving a boost to nothing but their own pockets.
After over 20 years in office…..only now and it’s headline news….
All of a sudden Skerrit doing all kinds of stuff. In 24 yrs that’s all they could do for sports?
Mr George, what would help our economy bette:, a national sports council or hosting the ICC cricket world cup that you and Skerrit declined? Did you see the amount of Dominicans that went to St Lucia, Antigua and Barbados to watch the T20 games? You guys are a waste of time and I can’t wait to vote you all out because clearly Skerrit is working against our interest and development.
By the way, you should be ashamed of yourself because you have been in office with Skerrit ever. since he became PM and as a former Dominica youth cricketer, Skerrit has only used women with absolutely no interest in any sports as his sports Minister and as we speak you are not even sports Minister. So shame on you bro because I played inter village cricket with you and know ur potential. So shame on you for allowing Skerrit to destroy sports in Dominica and just using you and others as his toilet paper
If only the government could give the same boost to the creative arts.
Roger! What has this government boosted? The only things it has boosted are poverty, crime, joblessness, corruption, deception, salaries of MPs, political tribalism, water &electricity woes, malnutrition, food insecurity, and the list could continue ad infinitum.
This talk about advancement of sports has been spouted so many times to no avail by this lying government. Well done is always better than well said. The easiest thing in this world to do is t make promises.
After failing to get lights ready to host the T-20 Cricket World Cup, you are so dumb, stupid, shameless and even asinine to come and run your mouth now bla! bla! bla!. Do you know the amount of global exposure the host countries are getting? Your darn clown and puppet. Go do something about the countless playing fields island wide, your inept government has encroached on with buildings, rendering them almost useless.
Shameless!
There is a strategy of deception being perpetrated by this perpetually lying administration. Everyday a minister or senator goes on the media with impressive plans and promises with the sole purpose to dupe the unsuspecting.
Roseau enhancement, repurposing of the Botanical Gardens, upgrading of the sporting facilities, geothermal energy, international airport, restoration of the public library, revival of the agriculture sector, member of every household obtaining a degree, regrettably, all these are ghost projects, bogus promises and sweet lies.
A lie has no power by its mere utterance; it gains power only when people believe it.
