Dominica sends national record holders to 2025 Pan American Youth Games

Dominica is set to shine on the international sporting stage once again, as the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) announces its seven-member delegation to the 2025 Pan American Youth Games in Asuncion, Paraguay. The team, comprising three elite athletes and four seasoned officials, will compete in Athletics and Swimming from August 9 to August 23, 2025.

Dominica’s delegation features national record holders and international medalists, underscoring the DOC’s commitment to quality over quantity. Leading the team is swimmer Jasmine Schofield, who will carry the national flag at the Opening Ceremony. Schofield, fresh off her appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics and the 2025 Aquatics World Championship in Singapore, will compete in the 50m and 100m freestyle events.

Joining her in Athletics are Addison James, a CARIFTA Gold Medalist and ALBA Games 2023 Bronze Medalist in Javelin, and Treneese Hamilton, Dominica’s national record holder in Shotput. The delegation will benefit from experienced leadership under Chef de Mission Mr. Albert Loblack, a seasoned sports administrator and current President of the Dominica Amateur Volleyball Association. Loblack, who previously served as Chef de Mission at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, brings a wealth of expertise and guidance to the team. Supporting the athletes are Mrs. Shaminey Walsh-Dupuis, Swimming Coach; Mr. Joel Hamilton, Athletics Coach; and Ms. Jermasha Mellow, who will serve as Welfare Officer and Press Attaché.

DOC President Billy Doctrove expressed confidence in the team’s potential, noting that while smaller than previous delegations, the caliber of athletes is exceptional. “The emphasis for the DOC at these Games was quality vs quantity,” said Doctrove. “We believe this is reflected in the team, which we hope can take advantage. Over the past twelve months, the athletes have received substantial support for their training, and we’re optimistic about podium finishes.”

The 2025 Pan American Youth Games will host over 4,000 athletes across 42 disciplines and serve as a qualifying event for the 2027 Pan American Games. Dominica first participated in the Junior Pan American Games in 2021 in Cali, Colombia, and looks to build on that foundation in Asuncion.

    No shi. Sherlock.
Who else they expected to send.
Is about time we sent the best of the best. The national record holders. Not just the ones that are most liked. Or politically associated with the ones in charge
