The Dominica Athletics Association (DAA) has announced that three athletes from Dominica will represent the country at the upcoming World Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13 to 21, 2025.
Thea LaFond has secured her qualification for the event and will compete in the Triple Jump. As an Olympic medalist, LaFond continues to serve as a source of national pride through her exceptional performances on the international stage, said the DAA via press release.
Dennick Luke will participate in the 400-meter hurdles, earning his spot based on his university placement, which showcases the emerging talent of young athletes from Dominica.
Treneese Hamilton will compete in the Shot Put, having gained her entry through an invitation extended by World Athletics.
According to the DAA, this achievement marks a significant milestone for Dominica, as these athletes will carry the nation’s flag onto one of the sport’s largest global platforms. Their involvement underscores their dedication and perseverance, as well as the ongoing development of athletic programs within the country.
The DAA also expressed appreciation to the coaches, families, and supporters who have contributed significantly to preparing these athletes for this level of competition. Additionally, the association acknowledged the financial backing provided by the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) and thanked Asics, the official supplier for the games.
“As the Championships draw near, the entire nation is encouraged to rally behind Thea, Dennick, and Treneese, and to celebrate their journey as they compete with the world’s best in Tokyo”, urged the association.
