The Women’s Arm of the United Workers Party, ‘Women of Workers’ (WOW) is calling on all able-bodied Dominicans to join in an organized march on Friday to fight against child abuse in Dominica.
Over the years statistics from the Social Welfare Division have indicated that child abuse in Dominica continue to rise at an alarming rate, hence the WOW staged this event to let their voices be heard.
“We have been doing so during our radio programs and through press releases, but we felt that we need to take action to stand up and to call on the public to bring awareness to the issue and to encourage people to speak out about it,” Deputy political leader of the UWP, Senator Francisca Joseph told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview on Thursday.
She continued, “As you know our children their cries are voiceless, because sometimes they are afraid.”
Joseph added, “We are calling on the adults now to take responsibility for our innocent children in order to have a better Dominica.”
According to her, marchers will assemble at the Peeble’s Park in Roseau from 10:00am where short speeches will be delivered prior to the commencement of the march.
“We have gotten the permission from the police to do so,” Joseph revealed. “We will walk with our placards, we will sing and encourage…”
Meanwhile, Joseph said the UWP; especially the Women’s Arm, condemns all forms of abuse and is concerned about the disappearance of Kernisha Etienne who was abducted from her home in Warner for over two weeks now.
“We have been praying and some of our supporters have been searching as well,” she indicated.
Joseph said the UWP is deeply saddened by the situation and hopes that Kernisha is found alive and well.
She called on members of the public to put politics aside, unite and stand up to fight for a cause.
“If we come together this will help us to be a better Dominica, a better people,” Joseph encouraged.
Labour supporters must never march along side that bunch of disgusting idlers and terrorist that been trying to spread mayhem in Dominica, otherwise you too will be looked at being a traitor towards your country just like Ugly Lenny, and his blue monkeys, my personal wishes is to see Ugly Lenny, out of our lives for ever.
That’s sad. Sad cause a nation can’t put politics aside to unite. Who can blame em, to be seen with uwp would mean victimization and job loss. Can’t risk it. They all the same, they all will do the same exact thing when in power. The worse part is that the power isn’t in these parties. It’s with the people. Without us they can’t raise funds, they can’t lead, they can’t do anything.
This initiative is quite relevant at this particular time. Our children, especially our little girls, have become preys to adult men who have lost their humanity.
What would have been even better if the major political parties, along with the business sector, and the clergy, would have come together and show these pedophiles that Dominicans are adamantly against this particular crime, and would not take it so flippantly any longer.
It will take serious legislation and enforcement of these new laws by government, the voice of the clergy, the unwavering support of civil society against this heinous crime, to combat and reduce these dispicable acts against our innocent children.
Also, the trials of anyone who commits a crime of this nature should be swift. Delayed justice is injustice.
