President of the Dominica Olympic Committee, Billy Doctrove, recently highlighted the significance of supporting young athletes. A Dominica Olympic Committee press release shared that prior to Dominica’s participation in the 2025 PanAm Junior Games, Mr. Doctrove emphasized that winning a gold medal does not happen automatically; rather, it results from thorough preparation.
Doctrove also noted that events like the PanAm Juniors serve as critical developmental milestones for athletes. In line with this, the Dominica Olympic Committee says it remains committed to assisting junior athletes in reaching top competitive levels.
To further foster athlete growth, Doctrove called on the private sector to provide consistent support for athletes throughout the year. He stated, “We are asking our private sector to come on board early to ensure the young athletes are prepared and the environment is prepared and our young athletes have a pathway to further excellence.”
The Junior PanAmerican Games, launched in 2021 for competitors aged 16 to 21, is regarded as the continent’s premier youth sports event. This year’s edition will feature over 4,000 athletes competing across 42 sports disciplines. For Dominica, the competition will commence with swimmer Jasmine Schofield participating in the 100m freestyle event on Tuesday, August 12.
Highlights from the Games can be viewed on the official PanAm Sports YouTube channel and website. Updates on Team Dominica are available through the Dominica Olympic Committee’s Facebook page.
Billy I would politely ask you to speak specifically to the matter from an honest perspective.
We’ve lack facilities from our athletes for more than 30 years where multiple governments have failed.
You taught me how to be a better citizen during my early years as a Heineken saints member.
you’re supposed to be speaking independently yet I don’t see that.
The private sector which is a few companies have done their part over the years. Most have closed down or government have ask for their demise.
Maybe you should tell the government to help them grow so they can have more money to fund athletes.
Why have the governments not seen it fit to construct an outdoor stadium for athletes at the time when Jarome Romaine and Dawn Williams first represented us at the Olympic Games?
Dominicans need persons like you to speak up honestly, see the goodwill playing field, this is where saints use to practice, now there’s no Saints you don’t see it necessary to have it useful.
Billy, truth be told I think you should keep your mouth shut and enjoy the perks that you’re getting.
My God, we’ve been participating in the inter secondary schools games for years.
We’ve seen Grenada win the athletic competition almost every year. See how the other islands have improve facilities to produce world class athletes yet, we’ve stand aside blindly.
How can we not have an outdoor track and field all these years?
We had Jarome Romaine and Dawn Williams from Portsmouth participate in Olympic Games yet, nothing was done to develop Portsmouth.
Kim Collins’s a younger person from the two athletes got the support from his country. st kitts saw the need to support its athletes but the authorities in Dominica have blatantly ignored our needs, instead continue to use persons like Billy and others in their political mileage which they have fully supported.
With all that and more I could say, I again tell billy and any other who challenges private business to shut it. Just…
Meanwhile, national athletes have no dedicated gym and developmental facilities for their development. People like Billy continue to benefit from the perks of his position and very minimal is being done in terms of sports in Dominica. People like Billy should be making an uproar about the state of the Pottersville Savanah.
