Flood Warning in effect for Dominica as of 12 noon today

***FLOOD WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR DOMINICA… A TROUGH SYSTEM IS AFFECTING THE AREA***

Issued at 12NOON on Sunday, November 62022

A Flood Warning means that flooding is already occurring or will occur during the warning period.

 

The Meteorological Service has issued a

  • Flash Flood Warning for Dominica
  • Until 6am Monday November 7th 2022
  • A trough system is expected to continue generating cloudy to overcast skies, moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds across Dominica, during the next 12 to 24 hours.
  • Over 75mm or 3in. of rainfall have been recorded in some eastern communities in the past 6 hours resulting in localized flooding. An additional 50 to 100mm (2 to 4inches) is possible this afternoon into tonight.

People in areas that are prone to flooding, landslide and falling rocks should be vigilant and take all precautionary measures to protect life and property. Stay away from flooded bridges and vulnerable roadways.

 

EXPECTED IMPACTS FOR DOMINICA

  • Rivers, streams, gutters and ravines may overflow their banks and flood surrounding areas
  • Landslides due to intense rainfall as well as rock falls from overhanging cliffs
  • Seas will become dangerous for sea-bathers and small-craft operators in gusty winds

The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the situation.

    My heart goes out to the many residents who live in conditions less than ideal during this inclement weather.

    The monthly $74K that’s being lavished on Roosevelt and his family to live in exquisite opulence, should have gone to these vulnerable families. They, too, need proper roofing and shelter from the ugly elements of the weather in a time like this.

    May the good Lord keep them safe from all harm and danger.
