Fond Cole man charged for wounding and battery at carnival opening

Derin Wade, a 22-year-old of Glasgow Road, Fond Cole is now on $5,000.00 bail after the police preferred four charges against him in relation to a stabbing incident which occurred at the opening of carnival last weekend.

Wade appeared before Magistrate Michael Laudat on January 19, 2023, where he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

It is alleged that on January 14, 2023, at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium (WPSS), in Roseau, the accused was found carrying a certain offensive weapon namely, one brown handle knife with a sliver blade and was unable to offer a satisfactory reason for the possession of the said weapon. He was charged for that.

He was also charged for wounding Nathan Dominique and Vernel Lafleur on that same day and for battery on Dominique at the WPSS.

Last Saturday, the carnival opening celebrations ended abruptly due to the alleged violent fight which occurred.

At the court hearing, following Wade’s not guilty pleas, Police Prosecutor, Corporal Dale Leblanc did not object to bail but requested that this be granted with a proper surety.

Kelvin Madir was introduced by the defendant’s attorney, Wayne Norde, and after the court evaluated him, he was found to be a suitable surety for the accused.

Wade was released on a $5,000.00 bail with one condition attached. He was ordered to not interfere with any of the prosecution’s witnesses, especially the two virtual complaints.

The matter was adjourned to May 25, 2023, for trial.

I don’t understand why why would they publish the color of the knife handle and also the color of the blade and refused to mention the length of the blade. I guess this was done in order to keep the public ignorant of the law.

Why should a police officer decide whether a criminal should get bail. They should keep him locked and release him after the carnival who know he wont finish what he started you just can’t trust these guys.

a police officer cannot determine if a criminal is a criminal. he can arrest and detain for alleged offences and crimes. the court determines if you go to prison. If the prosecutor who is the police has no objection to bail that is something completely different than deciding whether if he should get bail. He can object. He doesnt decide. The magistrate decides.

This accused should not have been granted bail. Period!

Even if the said slacker named Cpl. Leblanc did not object, the presiding magistrate should have exercised better discretion and remanded the accused. For crying out loud, its carnival season and all so called “badmen” who misbehave should be remanded until the season is over. But you see, Navy Seals Badmen / Snipers and the Mrs. Mugabe wanna-be alias Molly de Boowick run things in and around Roseau these days so even the judiciary is afraid to touch them. But according to Bouteille the calypsonian; “I see we climbing a greasy pole”. Nou fe-ni-bat in Ma Dominique.
