A multi-faith candlelight ceremony carded for tomorrow -August 25, 2022- is just one of the ways in which the Girl Guide Association of Dominica (GGAD) intends on keeping the memory of missing 12-year-old Kernisha Etienne alive.
Speaking to Dominica News Online (DNO), Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the 93-year-old organisation, Abigail Christmas, said that it’s been almost three months since the primary school student was abducted from her home, therefore, the GGAD decided to host this event to not only draw attention to this matter but to also pray for the safety of other students on the island.
“We felt that this event was especially important now that school is about to reopen. We all know that the country was faced with the devastating news of Kernisha Etienne’s disappearance at the end of the academic year, right before summer. With summer almost over and school set to reopen in less than a week and this young girl has yet to be found, we decided to take on this initiative,” she stated.
Christmas continued, “We are also hosting this event to show that in the midst of uncertainty, we can still be hopeful. And we want to teach our girls that they need to be hopeful even when all seems lost. They need to have hope and have faith. So we’re having it not just to honour the memory of Kenisha but to teach our girls that hope and faith are two key things they need to hold dear to their heart as they grow older.”
The multi-faith activity which is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 pm on the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard will include prayers, worship, poems, and special remarks to name a few from various religious leaders, youth leaders and members of the GGAD.
“We are encouraging the public to come out as this is an event for not just girl guides, but for everyone, as we all had to face the heartache of seeing this little girl go missing without a trace,” the PRO of the over 400 strong women’s organization said.
DNO will provide live coverage of this event.
Below is the programme for tomorrow’s ceremony.
From this bright smile to agony..sad sad sad
When keyan was alive there was hope for kenisha and even keyan himself to get help. Besides his punishment if they chose too. But it was ruined…so sad. So sad. And corbette had Guts lying to de public saying keyan say she whenever. Look a liar we boy. I cry for her. Only God knows the truth..I doh understand how they neverbquestion those people that say kenisha fine they probably know something.
I cry everyday
A multi-faith candlelight ceremony for one of your comrades. OMG! Is that the best you can come up with? Why don’t you grab all your parents hands and drag them to the financial centre and Police HQ and tell them in no uncertain terms what all you think of them. Tell them to get out of our country if they can’t protect all you. After all that’s what they are being paid for.
Great initiative. I hope she is found alive one day. God performs miracles.
This is so sad eh..poor child…I mean her mother gone missing and here she goes. GOD SEES AND KNOWS
How about a massive protest in Roseau to force the Militia and the CM to update the country on this most shameful incident and possible crime. We need to force this government and it’s institutions to account. We can’t let them get away with silence or utterly pathetic spin or rhetoric (commonly known as lies) anymore. Dominicans, take you country back from this vultures!
