Jean Pierre Caribbean Youth Netball Tournament sets off today

For the first time, Dominica will host the Jean Pierre Caribbean Youth Netball Tournament.

The tournament will take place at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium from March 25 (today) to March 29.

“I want to thank the Caribbean Netball Association for selecting Dominica to host…there are many other countries that could be selected, Dominica was selected and so we are happy for this,” Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Youth, Sports and Community Development, Oscar George said.

He continued, “That’s very good for us. If you can recall last year we hosted the OECS Netball Competition and that was a huge success, and again, they decided to come to Dominica for the under 16 netball competition.”

Minister George commended the Dominica Netball Association for the role that they had to play in this tournament.

According to him, when regional entities decide to come to Dominica to play it’s by no coincidence.

“I think they see that we are [making] significant investments in sports, they see the enthusiasm, they see the interest, they see what is going on in terms of our facilities and they are attracted to Dominica to play sports,” he said.

Meantime, George disclosed that the Dominica government has also received proposals to host Caribbean volleyball.

The netball tournament will begin today at 5:30 pm.
