PM Skerrit calls for emphasis on preventing, rather than treating CNCDs

Prime Minister Roosevelt has said that focus must be placed on preventing Chronic Non-communicable Diseases (CNCDs) in Dominica rather than treating CNCDs.

It has been reported that during the past decade and a half that CNCDs which include; heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, chronic lung disease, high blood pressure has been the leading cause of death in Dominica.

CNCDs are also seen as the  biggest threat to Dominica’s economic survival and productivity.

“We should not be focusing on treating CNCDs, we should be focusing on preventing CNCDs. And so the ministry has to be more proactive and preempted in its actions in fighting CNCDs in our country,” Prime Minister Skerrit said while addressing the swearing in of Cabinet Ministers recently.

According to him, a national coordinator was appointed to bring greater focus to this and additional resources are

He said focus should be placed on the wellness part of the portfolio.

“Exercing, eating right, managing stress and anxiety in our country which is a major threat to our health…,” Skerrit noted. “Getting the whole country to be part of an exercise regime of eating right, eating what we grow, eating healthy.”

Meantime, the Prime Minister announced that in an effort to combat CNCDs in Dominica his government will reintroduce the  training of healthcare nurses.

“I am announcing today that we are going to go back to training primary healthcare nurses in Dominica,” he revealed. “These nurses have to be in the villages, in the communities.”

Skerrit continued, “We have to go back to house visits and home visits to see where the patients live.”

He added, “It’s not only about having a nurse at the health centre, but a nurse who walks around in the community and visits the patients and knows how the patients live so that we can ensure that we can save lives and save our country.”

He explained that the reality is, because focus has not been placed heavily on educating the population on how to manage diseases, “you see a whole stack of medication at your homes that they don’t use.”

“They try to take the medication when they get an attack, but it is too late,” the Prime Minister explained.

Head Principal of a kindergarten little boys school. I noticed that none of his students brought paper and pencil. This means: The cannot take any notes; cannot ask any question (s); cannot make any suggestions of any kind. Their sole purpose in class is to listen and shut the L up. O, and these little boys are sweating 😓 as hell. As you could see, their suits are extremely tight fitted. Which mean, they don’t have much breathing room in what’s happening under their skin. Their refreshment after this “lecture” is a Red Cool Aide drink. Then a handshake welcoming them to the gang/club.

What is being hypocritical about this statement. Any leader should be nervous about the declining health of the nation. Dem thick gyal business getting out of hand. A nation’s health is a nation’s wealth. Get up and get moving.

Decade and a half? that’s under your watch my brethren, and you should be held responsible in the International court of law for unintentional genocide. The policies your government has advocated has caused the Nassiefs and Astaphans and others to keep selling GMO, Sodium, Hormonal, Nutrient poor, Chemically rich, High sugar, low fibre foods to our people. After tropical storm Erica you could have changed direction, it was the appropriate time for a reset. Dominica the Organic hub of the world, where people live long and enjoy life Your Administration are real career bureaucrats, just talking nice talk and not implementing policies for real change. Tell us what’s your plan of action to curb that trend of NCDs death in Dominica. Look at your minister of Health. Your should be ashamed of your leadership skills. Cant you see it’s time to stare the ship in a new direction. Stop being selfish and all about you, consider the genuine plight of the people. Serve God’s purpose first!!

Roosevelt has singlehandedly pauperised not only a whole population but an entire generation. Most Dominicans cannot eat three meals per day nor eat a balanced lunch or supper. The purchasing power of the average citizen has been severely diminished.

Where are the good paying jobs? Both unemployment and underemployment, severe financial stress, infrequent health check-ups, the consumption of starchy, fatty and cholesterol laden foods, feelings of desperation have non communicable diseases rampant in Dominica.

Our agri-output is down, businesses that provided good paying jobs down, proper healthcare services down. One of the only things that is going upward is the number of NCD cases.

An astute leader in government for two decades would have provided the enabling environment for his people to thrive.

The deceitful conman, must understand that the areas that he has mentioned did not include increases in salary and wages of workers. This is important if one is to eat well.He has profited immensely from f……….. the resources of the country, so why does the ordinary man has to struggle to eat well? Sustainable job creation is key.
Skerrit has created ZERO sustainable jobs, but he babbles about CNCD’S..
Conman Skerrit took $ 64000.00 to comfort himself during Covid while the ordinary man could not properly eat..The showman likes to stutter jibberish, when he is the cause of everything going wrong on island.Remember he said he run things. Well when things go wrong, he must accept blame.
Why cant the immoral and unethical leader accept that?

PM you love to give lip service but you sound so ignorantly. You have been the leader for 22yrs what have you done in terms of prevention? How have to increased jobs so that we can afford to eat well? How have you boosted agriculture and manufacturing so that we can eat our own products? How have you put money in our pockets so we can do regular medical checkup? How well have you paid our nurses so that they can stay here instead of going to greener pastures? You talk alot with no action because you know only your followers will believe the crap. Stop talking and start doing if you are serious.
